Looking to possibly buy a 2006 Legacy GT with a manual

Trunk one may differ from wagon and sedan. Never been in a wagon before. Only sedans when I was in Maryland. I don't actually know any 4 gens outside of the forums around here.

The Subaru all weather mats in my 09 sedan came out of an 05 wagon. Granted its just the front and rear floor mats.

Oh neat! I never saw this thread, and I didn't know you bought a 05 LGT Limited. I also have one and have been dealing with a lot of crap with it, so I'll help out if I can.

What kind of crap? My key fob is pissing me off now by not letting me open my trunk with it. But I can open/lock doors and set the alarm.

Well, I highly recommend you take out the banjo bolt by the turbo and check the filter! My car still had a filter, and it was almost completely clogged (I'm at 143k though). I think it was the cause of the core of my turbo to start leaking a lot of oil. It sounds like yours is better taken care of than mine, but I think it would be good to check to make sure. You can either replace the filter if it's caught a lot of debris, or remove it altogether.

Are you pressing and holding the trunk release button? You have to hold it for a while, about 5 seconds or so and then the trunk will open. It won't actually pop open, but it'll be unlatched so you'll be able to lift it open. When I got my car I didn't realize you had to hold the button for so long...

Also did you figure out the P0420 check engine light you had? It's not a good idea to be driving around with a catless or upgraded downpipe without a tune for it.

Thanks..I do realize that you have to hold the trunk button down longer than the door functions. Im going to take it apart and check the contacts. As far as the P0420 I have no cats at all. So I went and bought the Cobb V-3 and now everything is good watching the hand held unit through it's operation. The previous owner of the car gave me a two inch bundle of service history with oil changes out the wazoo all from the Subie dealer but at 10200k and knowing the timing belt/water pump were done at 95.000k I am deffinately looking into either removing or replacing the banjo bolt filters with knowing the history of these 05's

Ah okay. Yeah check the key fob. I have an aftermarket alarm/remote start and my key fob has a little screen on it, and of course it's cracked and broken, the functionality is still there tho.
We're you still thinking of putting the stock exhaust back on to pass inspection?

Honestly after reading through everything it looks like all the main issues have been said, you bought a well taken care of car, and you know what you're doing. Just keep taking care of it and it'll be just fine. I guess the one thing I can think to check is the lower control arm bushings. They're made of rubber and like to crack and tear on our cars.

Yea when I had the safety check done at the dealer for my first synthetic oil change after I bought the car the only thing they said they found was the lower control arm bushings needed replaced but I don't need them until inspection in march they said. Its not my daily driver so I pretty much use it on the weekends for a little boost treat! As for the exhaust it is the original but it has no cats on it.. The dude who had it before me said he had a full Invidia which he took off to sell to a friend. He said when he traded it into the dealer that they would give him a better trade in value if the car was all back to original. So in time the suspension is my first thing then the exhaust im going to upgrade as well.

Slight overkill but you could upgrade to a flip key or the 1 piece key just before flip. Did all but program the remotes to the car (self done) and chip to immobilizer (dealer intervention unless you dreamel your working keys for the chip). I also have an aftermarket alarm so the buttons working isn't that high up there. That trick to get to into that menu is a bit of a pain if you do get a new fob and reprogram it.

Now im having a problem with exhaust fumes inside the cabin. Even with the HVAC off they are still pretty wicked. It is worse with the HVAC on though. I can't open the sunroof to the rear tilt or open all the way or im going to die of carbon monoxide poisoning. Not really sure where its coming from because there is no sign of an exhaust leak while operating the car. It gets worse when you are on the throttle though. It has the Invidia up and down pipes if that will help in the diagnosis.

So this week here in Pennsylvania the weather has been dropping below freezing overnight for the first time this season. I don't use my LGT as much as I should so since I bought it I have still been learning and reading up on the car here. You guy's have been very helpful as well (Thank you all). The other morning I walked by the front of the car on my way to get in my BK and saw a small amount of anti freeze under the front. Quick ran in the house got the keys and opened the hood to check the fluid levels and did not see any fluid looking into the radiator or the little reservoir up next to the intake manifold. So as anyone would I got worried and got a jug of Prestone on the way home from work. Topped it all off while letting the car run and it checked out ok. Took a bit for the heat to kick in but then again it's just idleing. So went to the Subie dealer 15 mins from my house today and had the fluid cleaned out (not a flush) and replaced with new fluid along with a preasure check and got a full clean bill of health by the tech. The leak that I saw was whoever had the car serviced before me forgot to replace the "O" ring on the drain plug. So im just putting this out there since all you guys will be changing your fluid for this upcoming winter so don't forget the little "O" ring. $84.00 including tax at the dealer..Not bad for some reassurance!

Got a question about the roll back feature. My 95 BK has the feature of putting the clutch and brake on sitting on a hill while at the light. When you let off the brake with the clutch in the car stays stopped until you release the clutch. My question is my 05 LGT does not do this. My car just rolls back. Is my car not working properly or is this feature not available on our fourth generation Legacies?

My leak was the up pipe gaskets, you use the Grimmspeed ones, cheap ones that come with aftermarket exhaust or oem? Other thing to look at is the donut gasket at the end of the downpipe to midpipe. Over tightening the bolts with springs can cause it to leak. Also forgot I got the Grimmspeed aftermarket downpipe to stock midpipe adapter since you said downpipe as well. They very well may be the issue. Be careful as they don't come with gaskets as of January 2015 so the lead one and crush one is needed seperately.

Yeah I kept a bunch of those washers up till I converted to fomoto valve. The taco Tuesday diarrhea oil flow got really old to me. Drivers side tire always got golden showered. If you go that route get with nipple.

Legacy is weird, you have to ask one of the guys on the sister forum if you can't get that info here. I haven't driven a manual 05 since 05 when I originally test drove it in San Antonio off San Pedro. The dual mass flywheel was usually swapped out with one of the wrx ones. Some car companies also do weird things with features. My Cruze doesn't have roll back but the Sonic and Spark do making the price of the car almost equal at a point.
