moosegoose1016's 2002 Legacy L (MN) complete OEM engine overhaul

    Hello forum

Not new to subaru's by any means, but new to the legacy. I've previously owned an 06 wrx wagon(sold), 02 wrx sedan (sold), 01 legacy gt(wife's/sold), 2000 2.5rs (sold), 2001 2.5rs coupe (sold), 99 SF5 forester (sold), 1993 SS legacy wagon (sold), and now the 2002 legacy and the wife now drives a 2005 FXT.

I purchased this legacy at a stupid low price, but at the cost of a engine overhaul being required. It was knocking pretty bad due to being 10k over the oil change per the window sticker. So...here I am, I thought that i'd do my first build/rebuild thread on a vehicle so off to the races I go.

The goal for this bad boy is longevity and reliability. The chassis itself is surprisingly clean without any rust and minimal damage due to punk kids shooting it w/ a pellet gun. I bought literally everything possible brand new for the rebuild. The remanned engine, tensioner, idlers, water pump, oil pump, every single gasket and grommet, you name it, it's either new from Subaru or new aftermarket. Having a stepmom that works at a local subaru dealer is a perk when you get parts at cost.

I'm requesting a little assistance from the forum on to advise me on a good places to get some aftermarket support for parts. I've been addicted to boxer4racing.com for most items but am always looking for other locations.

This is a video of the engine once I got it off my trailer and drove it into the garage...

Here are just a few pictures of the chassis and everything...

Looks great! How do you like the new suspension setup? Also did you paint your hood black? I can't quite tell.

Thank you! No it's still silver, but now that you mention it, it sure does look black haha.

I dig the new set up a lot, could use a little larger wheel and wider tire, could be a little bit lower IMO. But it's still got some settling to do yet.

It's been a while since I've been on the forum. Lots have changed with this guy, main modification, getting stripped of all aftermarket parts, engine and trans removed, and all getting put into a 2003 legacy wagon. Since some clown shoe backed into my r/f fender, damaged the hood, head light, core support, inner fender, and bumper....insurance totaled it. So now that we have 2 kids, a new-to-me wagon worked out perfect! I will post some new pics once coilovers are in, and alignment is done. Stay tuned!
