I picked this thing up from Minneapolis MN a week ago. I put out a feeler to see if anybody was selling a 4th gen, and one of my customers messaged me. She told me her boyfriend was considering selling his 06 OBXT and gave me his contact info. After a barrage of text messages, photos, etc I made arrangements to look at it. My buddy Connor and I piled into his Forester and set off for MN. Four hours later, I took it for a test drive. 119K miles, meticulously dealer maintained with records for everything. Exterior and interior were in excellent shape, it became clear that this was babied by the previous owner. Heated leather, giant sun roof, manual trans... oh yes, it was coming home with me. Came back, handed the man $6800 cash, and we were on our merry way.

Minneapolis is home to many things... a few rally teams Connor knew, MA Performance, Grimmspeed, god awful fucking traffic... many things. We decided to stop by at Grimmspeed and grab a plate relocation kit, popping the car's mod cherry on the first date. After that, more of Minneapolis' terrible traffic followed by a long, dark, incredibly boring drive home on I-94. We stopped for food at Taco John's on the way back, something Connor had not experienced yet. We later regretted this decision, driving 3 more hours in the midst of a food coma.

My plans for the car are pretty simple. Coils, sway bars, some bushings, wheels, axle back exhaust, headlights that don't suck ass.

    Congrats!

Start with checking those turbo banjo bolt filters and get an access port so you can get off the stock tune which is known to cause cylinder 4 problems.

I love the colour and can't wait to see pics of your BD and BP together

I knew about the banjo bolt filters, didn't know about the stock tune causing issues. I wasn't planning on buying an AP since I was going to leave things stock, but if that's a problem I'll look into picking one up. Thanks for the heads up! Do the OBXTs have catted up pipes? Haven't really had a chance to look, I've heard that can cause problems too.

Yup. Went out by lake mendota today for some updated photos. I picked up a new camera body and a couple better lenses to replace my old 50D, so you guys can expect a ton of photos as I do stuff with the new car.

Going in circles, man... goin' in circles.

I picked up a set of OEM headlights for $80 tonight, got them split + prepped + painted in between working on customers' lights. Instead of the usual matte black, I went with a metallic black base/clear. Retrofit parts should be here tomorrow, they're getting XB55 HIDs and Maxima D2S projectors, solid performers with a bit of tuning.

I like the wheels. Something I have been wonder is why some of the trim on the outside is black? I thought the Limiteds had the trim body matched.

Limited added the dual sunroof, leather interior, power passenger seat over the normal XT

Decided to run the amber reflectors, just finished up building the projectors for it. Going to write up a DIY on them in a bit. I also picked up some Prosport Evo gauges to run in a cubbypod, and a replacement passenger A pillar cover to replace the stained one. That A pillar was driving me nuts since it was the only interior piece that wasn't mint.

Yeah its weird. According to cars.com the 2.5i Limited got the body matched trim but the XT Limited did not. Subaru is so smart....

Yeeeeessss, yeeeeessss... everything is going according to plan.

Parts ordered and on their way as of today:
    Cobb Accessport
    Rear weathertech mats
    AVO front sway bar bushings
    AVO rear sway bar bushings
Moog front and rear end links
    ISC N1 coilovers
Whiteline front lower control arm inner front and inner rear bushings
Whiteline adj. rear camber upper control arm bushings
    Cubbypod

Avo mid/Y pipe and an axle back are in the works, just ironing out scheduling issues.

Drove the BD around the block. Just isn't the same anymore... :smt009

Gauges are in, my buddy Grey and I made a DIY cubbypod while I wait for the one I ordered to come. Hell I might just sell the cubbypod and keep this, fits great and the door still works.

Not a great output shot since it's so close to a wall, but the Maxima hybrid D2S projectors with XB55s make factory CTS-V headlights looks like a flashlight with dying batteries. Pretty damn wide output, great color band, and it doesn't have the obnoxious foreground that the BD's FX-Rs have.

Nice. I am sure you already know but the rsb mounting points are weak. If you upgrade the rsb you should get the Avo reinforcement brackets.

Installed Diode Dynamics LEDs for the rear plate, cargo light, dome light, map lights.

I went to go pick up that Avo 3" midpipe tonight... wound up getting that, a damaged Nameless axle back that I can salvage the mufflers and flanges from for the new axle back, a brand new in box AEM wideband, Perrin intake tube, and a complete FMS FMIC kit for a grand total of $560.

Installed the Perrin Aftamaf and wiped some of the crap off the engine, looks much better.

Accessport showed up, gave the stage 1 93 octane map a try but logs show a bit of fine knock learn at 4500-5500rpm WOT. I'm going to back down to the 91 map and see how it does. Other updates... Ordered a KStech intake and heatshield that will work with the turboXS style FMIC. A friend will be selling me his catted DP in a few weeks when he gets a new setup. Bought a catless uppipe. Coils arrived. Other stuff should be here Friday. Won a Domo from a claw game. He is now my copilot. The pile of parts grows greater with every passing day.

Congrats, yeah do banjo bolts, one behind the passenger head is the most important one to grab, you will love stage 2 tune, and almost told you to bullet proof the stock TMIC but you going FMIC. Is this FMIC kit that deletes the fogs?

It clears the fogs on LGTs, we'll see if there are any fitment issues with the large OB fogs.

Speaking of the FMIC... started cleaning up the piping. Had a bunch of stickers and silly shit covering up this nice metallic red, those got shitcanned and I polished them with M105 on a light cutting pad, then applied some sealant to keep 'em shiny.

Tonight! Whiteline front LCA inner f+r bushings, avo front sway bar bushings, moog end links were installed. Black friday sales got me without ever leaving my office, buddy and I made an order for a couple sets of wheels. 18x8.75+33 XXR 530s in matte bronze for his FR-S and 18x8.5+35 531s for my OBXT. It's going to suck having those show up and then get put right into storage, but they were a good deal.

Sunday! Coils and rear bushings will be installed. Until then, they get to sit all warm and snuggled up in their covers.

Monday! Exhaust day, going from sneaky quiet prius noises to Rumbletron 4000 sounds by repairing and installing an avo midpipe and nameless axleback.

Coilovers and whiteline rear camber bushing thingies were installed today. Stock height vs now:

About a 3" drop. 225/55r17 tires on 17x8+35 wheels rubs pretty bad, going to have the fenders massaged to accommodate these and my summer wheels later this week.

Lots of rumbles, no rubs, I'm a happy dude.

While my Avo mid + Y pipe were being repaired and mated with some custom directional rumble cannons (muffler deletes), I mentioned that I needed to get my fenders rolled. Shop's owner paused, made a quick call, and within an hour one of the best fender guys in the state was there to massage away all my rubbing problems and give me plenty of room for activities.

Full report on the coilovers please! How do you like them? Also your video camera works very well in low light. What is it?

Canon 1D mark IV body with 24-105 f/4 L IS lens. That video was pushing it, dark enough that I had to use one of the expanded ISO settings... 25600 if I remember right. Lots of detail loss and chroma noise when pushed that far. This in car video was shot at 6400, still fairly clean and usable.

I don't really know what to say about the coils, they work like they should lol. With the 8/6k springs and damping set at 16 clicks they're very comfortable on the street, rides nicer than the BC BR equipped cars I've driven and is even smoother than the tokico D specs and RCE black springs on my BD. Set them full hard and you're in for a very stiff ride. ISC is a bit of a lesser known brand, but as more and more people get them I think they'll become pretty popular. Haven't come across anyone that doesn't like their ISCs yet.

I'm looking forward to getting these on the car when spring rolls around.

Vf52, fmic, uppipe, invidia downpipe, comp stage 2 clutch and lw flywheel, grimmspeed ebcs, grimmspeed turbo heatshield, and pro tune are scheduled this upcoming weekend. The hype is real, I'm super excited.
