Okay, that was funny enough that I'll just tell you.
The wheels are Blitzen MY '00-'03. The "05 model had horrific wheels and the '06 Blitzen has the best looking, but next to impossible to find.
I used a Japanese trunk, but since I swapped in the US wiring harness I figure that the Japanese taillights work with the US trunk as well. That, and the fact a LOT of people have done the change with no reported problems.

Hey Yamazaki hows that rear sway bar feel?!
I only drove it once so far, but I didn't really notice so much of a difference. But I wasn't exactly hammering the corners either...Originally Posted by Dead91silvia

Nope. The front bumper I have on is temporary. I didn't want to put on the Blitzen bumper on until it's ready for painting. I think it would look stupid with all different color parts.Originally Posted by STIdarkside

On another note, does anybody know where I can buy automotive electrical parts? I'm looking for stuff like this:

I went to Advance Auto Parts and Radio Shack with no success. Man, I miss Super Autobacs.

What are you planning to use those for? Can you hardwire any of it? You can get relays from RadioShack, but their quick connectors are pretty low grade. If you really need something specific, I think the place I work at has an account at an industrial electrical supplier that could get you certain connectors. I can't guarantee anything though because I've never looked through the catalogue.
You could also get connectors shipped from Japan?

See if you can find what you need at Grainger or something. I didn't look through everything they had but simply typing in "wire connectors" brought up over 1,200 results.

You also might want to talk to Cameroncamera. He's been doing some nice work with these connectors making them look OEM and all. He might have a good source.

Found the battery charger for the camera! I'll be a lot better about taking pictures now.
Also, I've been driving it for the past couple days and I'm not sure I like the ride too much. I know the car is way too lowered when I can take street imperfections at higher speeds in the Impreza STi and the S401 than I can in this Legacy. It may have something to do with taking struts/springs out of a BH5 and putting them into a BEE, but I don't know enough to be able to determine that. At any rate, it's fine for the track now, but it sucks on the street.

Picture time!
I'll start with the easiest mod I've done to the car- engine cover:
US one on the right; Japanese one on the left
Here are the 4pot brakes in the front (note raised lettering, unlike the US 4pots which are painted or stickered):

Here's what the front end looked like this morning (no gaps!):
I thought the horns were way too visible so I krylon painted them. Here's what it looks like now:
The bumper isn't fastened on by very much because it's temporary, so it isn't very snug to the rest of the body.
Finally, to make the headlights plug-and-play, I fabricated a wiring harness to connect the headlight housing to the car's connector:

Unfortunately, I had to tape the ends connecting into the car's end because I never could find a place that sold connectors. Oh well, it works so who cares.

Man, it feels like I just left your place yesterday. I forgot how cool the front brakes looked and the horns look a million times better!
I was just about to say how I liked the engine cover on the left better despite it being USDM, then I realized I read your caption wrong, and it was actually the JDM cover.
I guess that goes to show that I legitimately like the Japanese parts better, and not just because it's a "you always want what you can't have" kind of deal.

It looks like just a few things left. Big things remaining:
1) rear brakes
2) rear wiper (mounted and wired)
3) paint (then I can put on all the badges, stickers, rain/wind guards)
4) instrument cluster (I have something special planned for this)

liking the progress you've made so far! Can't wait to see how it will look with the legacy doors and painted all together.

my thoughts after scanning this thread.
- awesome work and ambition so far!. nice hookup on parts/imports. id love to hear the story on the S401 sometime...
- that is fucking weird about the chassis differences, width of doors and glass and seats etc. i never would have anticipated that (well maybe the glass shape for the rear doors but not everything else). i can say that i wasnt surprised to see the outback doors sticking out further, but thats just because they have the lower plastic paneling on the outside. i bet the usdm GT has the same shape doors as the JDM
- seems the only benefit of this H6 over an 03-04 GT is the auto climate and the H6... thats why i got the GT wagon, it has all the niceties and i'll just do a turbo swap eventually. and its a 5spd. (no VDC, but that was auto anyways. i might do a 6spd in mine, so DCCD > VDC).
- if you want the suspension to have accurate geometry, you really gotta pull the spacers out. your control arms are different (well the rear mounts), the front and rear crossmembers, the driveline support, and the transmission mount. maybe more, if im forgetting anything.
- just got in my HIDs and dark gauge cluster today, for my 03 GT wagon. If you find a good harness pigtail, please let me know. i dont want to have to try and source one from japan/europe just to make a nice patch harness (keeping the stock connectors on the car and the HIDs)
- let me know what you end up doing about the cluster, i havent had any luck searching the net for wiring help.
You must have missed a few things...Originally Posted by elislider

So, you could change out the "B" pillar but then you would also need to do the same to the "A" pillar and fix the QT. Will not work. This I know fist hand. Has nothing to do with OB of none OB doors.
-The H6 and VDC is pretty cool! I had a GT BH 5 speed and this car was way faster! I did like my 5 speed, but I think the power of the H6 would have made up for it.
-We looked into the spacer thing and talked to a guy at the meet in RI that took them out and he said there are a lot more problems when you do that. The only problem right now is camber. If the spacers are pulled there are more. Yamazaki would remember better then I on that one.
I have no idea how hes doing his cluster... haha...
I really like the setup he has on this car! It's fun, but traffic friendly. It's comfy, but sporty. It's auto, but has balls. This car would kick the crap out of my BH GT and even with my 5 speed! I'm still thinking of maybe doing a H6 in my BD some day.
i'm confused what you mean about the doors. he has a USDM car... did you mean JDM? or do you mean USDM doors on a JDM car? i guess im lost
i've driven an H6, had an SVX with a 5-speed swap, and yeah it IS fast, i loved it. turbo is better IMO, at least there are more options, for cheaper. doing a built H6 is expensive. also the early 2000's H6 (EZ20R?) is kinda crappy because of the single port exhaust. less power than the EG33 isnt it? at least later (tribeca etc) the H6 went back to separated exhaust ports (3.6 liter right?) and has considerably more power. plus the asymmetrical rods. definitely more technology and interesting-ness in the more recent H6.
i dont see how removing all the spacers could make things worse. if you do it right, you've converted the chassis to the L/GT.... however i will concede there are a LOT of things to do if you choose to convert the outback to L/GT height. i think you even have to change out the rear crossmember? so yeah if you didnt do it right, then that would really fuck things up.
i dont see how
JDM doors (that he has) will NOT work on a USDM car, or the other way around. The door jams are completely different. I could stick my finger all the way through the door jam with the door closed. Outback, GT, L has no bearing on it, it's the fact that the cars are built in different country's. We looked at a JDM car (the S401) and multiple USDM cars to confirm.
As for the H6... You do know the car is his wife's right? And he has 2 other turbo cars so having this one as the commuter for his wife is perfect as it does have some power, but also does not need super and is an auto. Ether way, I understand it perfectly with what his goals are.
To do it right, it would take a ton of parts and time. It's not really needed any way. The car is low enough and all the geometry problems can be fixed with an alignment. As for wheel spacing, I think its just the fact that the body is physically wider. But yeah, there is no real need to take out the spacers. It's just really low and has a bit of camber, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be.
Ether way, I think it's a fun car for what it is. It's definitely not the S401, but it's still a kick in the paints with the wheels, tires, and suspension!![]()
I'm sure Yamazaki can correct what ever I missed and then some... HAHA
Now that i re-read my post 2 posts ago, i have no idea why i said "usdm gt doors are probably the same as jdm" because i already knew from reading the thread they wouldnt be. so i understand what you said in reply, sorry. just threw me off
Also I skimmed over (over conveniently ignored) the part where he said it was for his wife. so, that makes sense![]()
