    AssYriaNrocKer's 98 GT build

Purchased this 98 legacy for $1000 about 2 weeks ago. Going to be replacing the motor as soon as I can due to bent valves. The car is in good condition for $1000 so hopefully I can get this thing looking good with the money I saved on the purchase! This car will be a daily driver for the GF.
This build thread will be pic heavy.

    Things I've done so far:
MAJOR cleaning [its was nasty inside]
Installed wrx 6 disc stereo[for now]
Got all the missing interior pieces from the junk yard[ashtrays, jack cover, spare wheel with cover etc.]

    Things ordered but not installed:
JDM V7 wheels [getting powder coated sti gold]
New stock spoiler [old ones cracked]
    New passenger side tail light

    Future mods:
    Projectors
    L7 grill
    More to come I'm sure...

I am a Toyota off roader but working on Subaru's is nothing new to me. I love these cars. Should be a nice, safe, and reliable car for my GF to be driving when we make our move to the snowy roads of Chicago!

Questions comments and opinnions always welcome.

Thanks man. Bought a motor today...

    112k miles
    90 warranty
Needs alternator and compressor (wich I have)
    $800

Can't wait to get it in! Should get the wheels back from powder coating in 8-10 business days. Grill on its way and projectors possibly on their way as well.

I also need to do something about all these minor body dents. Also way to much sloppy touch up paint all over the body!

Here are some pics after the first wash. These pictures are before I installed the stereo.

The bottom portion of the front seats need to be re-apulstered.

Here is a shot of one of the rims before powder coating.

So I will also be upgrading brake booster/cylinder. A lot of these parts are being donated from this STI. Got totaled and parted. This is what's left. This is its last picture.... tomorrow she goes....

HA! My cars twin! Well at least what mine looked like when I got it 5 years ago... Good luck not getting hooked on that Leggy...

I see some Toyota drive line bits and Berfs sitting in the shop, but IFS under that Runner... Project in the works? I had an 84 X-cab built as a trail rig I sold a while back. Also have a 94 2WD I'm having fun with. My dad has a 90 X-cab 22re 4x4 also.

    Re: AssYriaNrocKer's 98 GT build

    I'm already hooked!

Actually that's for another project rig. 88 4runner that may or may not get a solid axle soon. Its actually fatgc8's garage and project 88 4runner. With my 95 I don't think I will be doing a SAS. Id like to try something different in the future.....fully rebuilt front end....long travel IFS maybe??

Yeah im in the process of doing a SAS on a 88 4runner. Should be pretty dialed in when I get this under the front end of the truck.

    Re: AssYriaNrocKer's 98 GT build

    Got some stuff done!¡!¡

    New brake light vs old

Got the motor unplugged...got grill and lights off...(although it may be a while till the grill and projectors come in)

Had a trunk full of parts and readys for a swap! We ghetto towed it to the garage and yanked the motor last night buuuutt forgot the camera....ill be there today cleaning up the empty bay and doing gaskets and such on the new motor.

Also got the rims back from powder coating....COULDN'T BE HAPPIER. THE SUBARU gold came out great! Got some Bridgestone Potenzas 225/45 on them..balanced...new stems...matching center caps and ready to rock!

Here is a shot just before motor got pulled.

My car actually isn't lifted, I guess it looks that way with the 215/55/16's in there

How's the 2nd gen fare with the 22RE? My buddy had one with the 3.0 and it was a bit anemic. (he 3.4 swapped his)

Its a little under powered but it gets the job done. The gears and exhaust helped a lot though! I can keep up with traffic now at least! Haha

    Re: AssYriaNrocKer's 98 GT build

Projectors and grill came in! I was gonna wait till I got the motor in but I got anxious...Got a couple other things done today but nothing major. Painted the tags gold using a paint marker, worked great! Didn't have time to install the new carpet I got...maybe tomorrow.

Power washer was not working so had to use the old finger on the hose with some degreaser on the engine bay.

Here is one of the tags HALF WAY painet so you can see the difference. Came out looking awesome!

    A shot of the carpet.

This is where she sits now....motorless

Waiting on some valve cover gaskets...should be in tomorrow. Also will be doing plugs, pcv gasket, and fuel filter.

Still need to find a 04 STI rack and a radiator before I get this motor in.

Piston pin access cover replaced...plastic vs metal

Also did the oil pan gasket. switched them to use the healthier of the 2. Cleaned it using shaving cream works great!!

Waiting for valve cover gaskets (got the wrong ones today) and main seal. Both should be in tomorrow.
Have not gotten the carpet, sti brake booster/cylinder, or crossmeber in yet. Still need to find 04 sti rack and radiator. Motor mounts will have to be done but due to budget issues they will have to wait till after motor is in.

Valve covers back on with new gasket, main seal done, and replaced heavy ass pulley with light weight alluminum one out of the STI.

Removed the old carpet. Had a few holes, lots of stains, and SMELLLSSSSS.

Here is a shot of the old vs the new.

UNFORTUNETLY the newer carpet I have does not fit. So annoying....guess its going to wait. Might be able to get one tomorrow. For now I cleaned all the nasty crap out of the car and individually cleaned every interior peice inside and out.....I NEED that smell to go away!! Wish I had a before shot but here is an after shot. Not perfect but much cleaner!

Once I get a carpet in and all the peices back together it will look much nicer! The parts came out nice and clean.

Hoepfully the smell will be gone!!!!!

P.S -- Made about $5 in change from under the carpet lol

The car looks great for the money, good find!

The best thing I ever did to my 87' 4runner was the 3" drivetrain lift. It gave me a flat belly and made the IFS rig WAY better offroad. I used to follow my friends Cherokees all over with no problem. I still regret selling the 4runner, now I moved to the darkside and have an XJ.
1998 Legacy 2.5GT: Stock to turbo to stock, and given to my Dad, then to my sister that blew it up. Now I've repo'd it and it will once again rise to former glory!

    Re: AssYriaNrocKer's 98 GT build

So since the new carpet I had did not fit had to hunt for one and luckily I found one with no holes! A few stains but a little carb cleaner, degreaser, water, and a little elbow grease cleaned it like new!

    BEFORE WASHING

REMOVED THE PADS BEFORE CLEANING AND GLUED THEM BACK AFTER

    GETTING NEW CARPET IN

ALSO GOT A NEW FOOT REAST

NO BROKEN CENTER COUNSEL ANY MORE EITHER..

Gotta love the junkyard! Carpert and a few interior parts came out to 15$ vs 120$ used online!

    Still ned 04 STI RACK!!!

Looks like she is coming along nicely!

Never had t pull the carpet in my BD yet, but I have pulled the dash for the heater core. That was one nasty looking car inside for sure! I did that in my Silvia, but thats because some brilliant person caught the back seat on fire and the only saveable parts was the dash, dorr panels and thankfully the front seats (they had some bad ass cover on)! haha...
