    Rubie_25GT's Project Beetleru - 1974 VW Beetle w/ EJ22E

    Hello all! Besides my 1999 Legacy GT "Rubie," I have another project I am working on. Meet the Beetleru Project! The plan is to put a 1997 Subaru Impreza L EJ22E into a 1974 VW Super Beetle. More pics and updates to come.

    Making some progress

    okay latest update:

    I have pulled the engine out with the help of my uncle, selfishblue, and hinyo. I also test fitted the adapter plate, ordered the rest of everything needed to adapt it (clutch, flywheel, etc.), and I have started sorting wiring. It's going to be a hell of a project...

    A lot has happened in the last few weeks. The EJ22e fits! Also started running cooling pipe and will be modifying the task tank to allow more fuel to flow for the Subaru engine. Goal is to be done in time for Boxerfest on May 1st! Let's hope it gets there! Now here a bunch of pics:

    We have a video of the car turning over for the first time showing the Beetle starter works for turning over the Subaru engine. The engine bolts in and just floats and yes I know it twists around a good bit but it is designed to do that believe it or not).
