06 legacy 2.5 sohc engine swap

So i recently bought myself another legacy out of the 2nd gen now into a forth gen YAY! the best looking body style out of the box IMO. but i bought this 06 legacy 2.5 non avcs 5mt car for $250!!! and its in nice shape but i need to find a motor for it. I cant seem to find what engine number these cars came with either i want to say its the ej253 but i dont know.

The main question is would i be able to take a ej251 out of the 01-04 legacy and just swap long blocks and keep all my intake and wiring? i know itll fit but is there anything physically different about where sensors go would i be missing locations for sensors? i can find an ej251 all day for cheap and i can only find motors out of 06 07 cars from junk yards and i dont want to put a $2000 motor in a $250 car LOL.

The 06-07 motors are completely different then the EJ251. The pistons are different and the heads are for sure different. I just had to fix a broken cam in one of those cars and the head had to be replaced.

That being said, if the rods and the crank are the same with the 06-07 and the 251, then all you would need to do is swap pistons. I have seem someone just a 1997 EJ25D block in a 2010 Forester, but it was just the block. Do a little more research and it might be that everything but the pistons will work.

i would prefer not to go into depth with this motor since ive got my wrx sitting in the garage getting a full build so i think ill just have to suck it up and spend the big bucks and get a drop in motor. or wait to find a wrecked one on craigslist. its just astronomically hard to find this gen in the upull yards.
