Impreza L/OBS bumper on a BG?

    Hey all,
I've been a lurker for a while, guess I'll show my face

I found this picture in the depths of Google with no context from a different forum. Poor guy left unanswered. For some reason, I really like the separate bumper blinkers. I've seen RS bumpers on legacies, but can't seem to find a write up on them anywhere. Do Impreza bumpers swap on as easily as my GT bumper to my 98 Outback? Or is it a complete hack job? I just got JDM projector fog lights fit, which was a pain to figure out on my own, so I wonder if I could trim the Impreza bumper to fit them too. Anyone know? Thanks!

Pretty sure someone on this forum has done exactly that, or at least played with it a bit but I can't seem to find it. If I remember correctly though, they couldn't get it to fit right and was having some issues getting stuff to line up. I also think I recall that because the Impreza bumpers are not as long, he had to pull the front bumper beam off to push the bumper cover back so that it lines up with the wheel arch. I think that's also what is happening in the picture you posted. As long as you don't mind your factory headlights and stuff having a bit of a funny gap below them where the bumper should meet up, you could get crafty with some zipties to hold it on, but I really doubt there's really a solid way of swapping to the RS bumper cover since you'd need to remove the bumper beam and that's pretty much what supports our factory bumpers.

Can't comment on the JDM fogs though, I've never looked at them in person and I run the stock Outback bumper.

A few have done it, but to make it look factory is near impossible.

Not too bad, I think. The headlights hang way over just because they're the later, two-piece design that has a large plastic adjustment housing that my JDMs don't have. I also have a slim grille I'll run until I can get a JDM (yo!) one. Also, the legacy fenders have a little downturn in them at the wheel arch, the Impreza doesn't. I'll have to trim that up to make it look nice.
Swaps over with the metal crash bar. The center hood latch thing has to be bent a tad, or cut. Or, cut the Impreza's reinforcement bar.
I'll see how I can fit the JDM legacy fogs on tomorrow. The fog light spots look good in height, but I may run into problems in length, and the curve up on the outsides may have to be trimmed. Oh well, only one way to find out. Hooray for exclusivity?

The outback drifter! I've seen that build making its way around the Internet for a while now. That's pretty cool.

Well I slapped the bumper on my car today. Trimmed the edges by the fenders to sit flush (with a pocket knife, hey, it works) and it's actually not half bad. The JDM fog lights are feasible, but we're getting into butcher territory with some... Uh... We'll call it "fabrication." Who knew slamming JDM legacy parts on an Impreza bumper bolted onto a USDM legacy would be tricky?

The bumper is pretty scratched, I'll have to paint it to match soon. It's actually pretty close to the color of the rest of the car as it sits. I put on a 95 legacy grill after I took this picture, it fits great but looks like crap cause it's chrome. And, like the headlights, sticks out a bit on the bottom. I also converted the bumper turn signals to dual-filament 1157 bulbs, I can do a write-up if anyone's interested. It's not too fancy though, just took out the 1156 socket and crammed an 1157 bulb and socket from a legacy headlight I had lying around in there. Crimp, solder, heat shrink. I apologize, I'll have better pictures once the fogs are in. Or when the bumpers painted. Eventually. Who knows

Unsure about the fog lights. It was a pain to get them there, and they look really out of place. Might just put some 6" LED light bars there instead. Other than that, I'm happy with how it turned out. Thoughts?

I would like to see some close ups of fitment, but I think it looks really good from what I can see now. The turn signals in the bumper looks natural on the car, better than the regular legacy bumper, but I still prefer the big fog lights

I have to zip-tie the inner fenders in, but they fit better than what's in the picture. I also cut the top of the bumper under the headlights but turns out I didn't really need to for it to fit. I agree with the fog lights, but I found something that works and doesn't look half bad for now, replacing the JDM legacy fogs that didn't really fit. It'll probably change again soon, but for now I have a light bar and other lights set up, so the LED lights go well, and are pretty bright

I dig it! It looks good with all the extra light on there, must be really good on a dark, rainy night, or when someone decides they don't want to go off their high beams...
