The first one is for the optional automatic headlights unit. It was not very common to have installed.

The second one (green pair) are the infamous "Subaru Test Connectors". Leave them disconnected, as the car will not work correctly if they are hooked up.

The third one is the Flash enable connector. If you need to flash the ECU, there is a pigtail that you connect there to enable it.]

The 4th.. I do not know off the top of my head. I will need to look it up.

the last one is the ABS diagnostic connector, you take those loose black pins and connect them to certain parts of the connector, and it flashes out your error codes.

So, in looking at the pictures again, I believe that blue connector is for an aftermarket remote starter/keyless entry. That key that you have is not a subaru original. None of the 3rd gen cars had a trunk/boot open from the factory.

Since it looks like the module that the blue connector should be connected to is missing, that would explain why they key fob does not work.

this is what a (very beat up) original subaru key would look like, if it had factory remote entry:

If you car has an immobilizer system, it is likely disabled so that the remote starter would function. I know that some UK/European market cars had immobilizers, but I do not know which models do.

That connector is another Diagnostic connector for the Subaru Select Monitor.

The blue one is for heated seats. The black one I believe is for the seatbelt light/chime.
