I mean, EJ222's have glass pistons, but at least you have boost so you've got that insta-adrenaline kick. I gotta drive on the roads like I'm running from the devil for that. Haha!

Once upon a time, I drove my stock Legacy GT through upstate New York. Was one of the most amazing road trips I ever took - the autumn colors were absolutely amazing, and the stock longblock did great on the highway. I do sometimes wonder what a 3-liter swap would've accomplished with a car that light...

I feel like a 3.0 + a 3.90 5mt would be an amazing ride. Torque on command everywhere and enough gear to be efficient.

    Can confirm, the 3.0L + 4.11 gears are awesome. I swapped in a . 738 5th gear from a WRX so it's 77mph@3k rpm too.

Personally i much prefer the EG over the EZ
when i worked at Metric Motors, we built a lot of sandrail engines. My boss, Chris was perpetually searching for the best powertrain for a sandrail.
    The criteria was
    Reliability
    Smooth, usable power
    Inexpensive to acquire
    Inexpensive to build

We bored a EJ33 to 99.5mm to make it a 3.75 liter and then we did twin turbos on it and it was absolutely insane. i used to have pictures of it. it made like 650HP without really even leaning on it. . Im not sure how much the cylinders were good for, being bored over that far, but the rods and pistons should have been good 1000. almost met all the criteria, It made fantastic power, there were off the shelf rods and forged pistons available, and it made reliable torque season after season. the problem was that the SVX was hard to find which made them difficult to source.
Before I worked there, the boys had experimented with the EZ and didn't have great results. It was fairly reliable in stock form but I guess they broke rods when they started pushing modest boost. This is not to say they can't make good power, people have made good numbers with them, but to build them to make enough power to be competitive with the LS sandcars, they were pretty pricey.
the powertrain that my boss settled on for under 200HP was EJ251, 400HP EJ25X, and for 600 HP the Honda J35.
In Chris' mind, the J35 is the best V6 out there, and I have a hard time disputing it.
They are as reliable as the sun, there is aftermarket support, they make rediculous power and they came in everything so they are easy to source.
I have considered (am considering) putting a J35 in my scoob.
If i had access to an EJ33 and if my ECU could run a 6 cylinder, i would probably go that route. I could hypothetically keep the turbo in the same basic location the big hurdle would be making a exhaust header for it. the rest would be pretty straightforward.
No, no ,no I'm not insulting you, I'm describing you!

The EG is a pipe dream bro, you'll never do it

The EZ physically fits in everything, and mines running of it's stock ecu. With a weekend of wiring work merging, everything in the car works as normal. My friend even merged his ez swap without pulling the dash (he's a glutton for punishment). I pulled the dash for mine.

Maybe someday I'll get a remote mount supercharger, the kind that looks like a turbo. The ECU is open source tunable, just need a tuner who is familiar.

I have always wondered about the ECU. How do you get the ECU to read as manual after the 3.0 swap?

You can get an overly complicated system of resistors to fool the TCU into thinking there's a trans attached. Or...

You send the ECU to Alphius (he's a member here) and he deletes the TCU from the ecu's software. He also deleted the rear o2 sensor and raised the idle slightly for me.

I know you know this, but for anyone else reading, I'm talking about the ez30D, 01-04 only. The EZ30DR from 05-? Won't work without a standalone.

Your Jedi mind tricks don't work on me.

Those are called centrifugal superchargers. They usually have really linear powerband. In my experience, they don't give much low-end grunt like a twin screw or a roots.
Actually you can find the factory superchargers from the Nissan pathfinders VG33 for dirt cheap

Got my old account back! Bye Bye doggone.doglegs.

You'd have to build a custom intake manifold for any of the cheap superchargers. In my case that'll never happen, which is why a remote mount is attractive.

yea, although i found this.. I mean... i wouldn't put it on a built motor, but a junkyard 2.5? maybe.
