Somac's 2005 Outback XT - Blown Up Already

    How's it going guys!

It's been a while since I've been here and posted any updates. I'm continuing where I left off from my last thread here,

    https://sl-i.net/FORUM/showthread.ph...a-Daily-Driver

and presenting my current Outback. I sold my '04 Outback and bought the other car I wanted ('06 Infiniti G35 coupe 6MT) and missed having a Subaru, so I got an '03 Forester XS 5MT, then sold that and got my current Outback.

It's a 2005 Outback XT Limited 5MT. OBP single tone paint, just like I wanted my BH9 to be, with an EJ255 and 5 speed manual. Black leather interior, big ol' double sunroof that is leagues better than my BH's sunroof was, and an overall nicer experience that I'm so happy with.

    The current mod list is:

More stuff is going to be slowly trickling in. Next up on the priority list for the car are proper gauges (AEM AFR gauge, Defi Advance CR boost + oil pressure + oil temp gauges or OEM STI Defi DIN gauge pack), IAG AOS, JDM facelift Outback front end, JDM Outback rear bumper, JDM side mirrors, JDM double din (maybe - or just get a GROM Bluetooth adapter), and whatever other dumb stuff I can find.

Made some small changes to the car.

Added some gauges. Defi Advance CR boost and oil pressure. Still waiting on my Defi CR oil temp gauge and an AEM wideband.

Swapped out the ugly 05-07 amber tails for the 08-09 clear turn tails.

Put a badge back on the JDM sport mesh grille.

Swapped out the stock interior bulbs for LEDs in the map/dome/trunk/courtesy lights.

And of course changed the stock fog light bulbs to Nokya yellow bulbs.

I'm probably picking up some OEM STI Defi DIN gauges, some JDM pre-facelift headlights to tide me over until I can buy a whole JDM facelift front end, and possibly going flex fuel soon now that Cobb released support for it. Pray for my stock internals.

Well, this was fun while it lasted.

I was coming home from work and just driving like a normal person at 45mph in traffic and my brand new Defi oil pressure gauge (woo!) let me know that I was screwed. Lost oil pressure and immediately shut off the motor and coasted into a parking lot. Oil was full (but almost due for an oil change), banjo bolts have been replaced with updated ones, and it doesn't have a VF40 so no VF40 problems. I assumed maybe it was the oil control valve or the banjo bolt so I towed it home, changed the oil, and tried it again. Sure enough, it's knocking. More than likely spun a bearing.

So I guess this will be a rebuild thread now. Plan is to swap an EJ20X in, use most of the JDM parts, and see if I can get it running before Sno*Drift at the end of January. My savings are completely depleted at this point, so it may not happen. Just so bummed out about this. All of my other plans are now put on hold.

Sorry to hear it. I may be buying another used Legacy in the spring so your story isn't making me feel confident. How many miles on yours?

135k miles on it now. It's been modified for the last ~15k miles and was bone stock before that. Tuned by one of the best Subaru tuners in the country. I guess the little EJ255 didn't care for 300wtq.
