    98legwag's 2019 Impreza Sport 5 door

On August 26th 2019 I traded in my 2009 Legacy 3.0R Limited for this 2019 Impreza Sport 5 door in island blue pearl. I got it with the Eyesight, moonroof, and Harmon Kardon audio package. It also came with map and dome light LEDs, all weather floor mats, and homelink auto dimming mirror as factory installed options. I added the cargo tray and rear seat back protectors after purchasing the car. I will probably get the windows tinted, but that likely be it as far as "mods" go. Well, I may eventually put the 04 STI wheels on too if I decide to keep them.

    Mods- stock

On to some pictures. Here it is when I got to the dealership.

More from the day I bought it.

    A couple of days later.

Just got done washing and waxing it. The wax I used is Griot's Garage 3-in-1 wax and I have the GG buffer as well.

I was in a couple of loner 'preza's, didn't care for how it was all over the road-last time I went back to a leggy loner-a complet 180 in terms of not feeling like the car needed an aliment - but, a nice upgrade from the 3.0

I did test drive the Limited and Sport trims. They drive differently. The Sport feels much better. I has "sport tuned suspension," active torque vectoring (which is similar to an E-diff), and slightly wider tires. Active torque vectoring works by braking the inside front wheel which transfers power to the outside wheel on hard turns.

I have driven a few of the Crosstreks too. Despite it being a very similar car, the bigger tires and raised suspension makes it feel so different. I had the same experience you described.

I haven't driven a newish car in years except for a horrid Nissan Versa rental. How fun to drive is something like your Impreza, compared to say, your '98 Legacy?

The Impreza is great. 20 years of chassis and tech development goes a long way. The Impreza feels very composed in corners and over bumps. This is a huge step forward from where the 09 Legacy was. And that was a huge step up from the 98. The 2017+ Impreza was the first Subaru to be built on the Global Platform. Subaru says its around 70% more rigid than the previous gen Impreza chassis. Combine that with some developments in suspension parts and this a great car to drive.

Took a 4 hour drive to go handle something yesterday. Averaged 39 mpg. The best the 3.0R ever did (on premium) was 29 mpg. The best my 98 wagon ever did was 32 mpg coming down off the Colorado plateau.

I finally hit 2,000 miles on the Impreza today. The more I drive this car the move I love it.

Four month report. I love this car. It handles surprisingly well and is very comfortable. With it requiring 87 and only having a 13 gallon gas tank I am spending about $15 less per tank than I did in the 3.0R and still have the same or better overall range. I do wish I had the LED headlights that came on the Limited trim. I do prefer the way the Sport drives with the active torque vectoring. I definitely made the right choice on the Sport over the Limited.

Nice to know Sport behavior is great. I've owned my 2010 Impreza since it was new and have enjoyed its sport mode. Handling, though... mushy then, mushy now. Either I'm gonna upgrade or trade in.

    That. Might. Happen. Soon.

The 2017+ Impreza is on the Subaru Global Platform which all models are going to. Its around 70-100% stiffer than previous chassis, depending on the model. It makes the cars handle so much better and still be very compliant for daily use. The rear sway bar actually mounts to the uni-body now and not the rear sub frame. Overall, the improvements make a very good handling car.

One of the many reasons it was time for another hatchback. Also, I plan to wash and wax the Impreza this weekend. I absolutely love this car. I drove it to Philly and back last weekend and averaged much better mileage than the 3.0R or my old wagon ever got. I just got over 4,000 miles on the car and its great.

Washed the Impreza and gave it a coat of Adam's Liquid Paint Sealant. I am very impressed with how easy the LPS was to work with and the depth of the color after the coating.Name: Adams LPS.jpg

Just got done detailing the Impreza. It got washed, clay bared, polished, and waxed. I used Griot's Garage synthetic clay with their Speed Shine as a lube, Mother's micro polish, and Adam's Polishes ceramic liquid wax. Interior also got cleaned.
