1992 Subaru Sambar Japanese Kei Truck non turbo non supercharged

Good afternoon. We have been looking for the crankshaft position sensor for several months. Do any of you most knowledgeable folks have any ideas? We would be most grateful! 4wd, manual, 658cc clover engine en07 thank you very much.

Well, I am the only person on here with a Sambar, but I am probably also the best person to ask. If you can give me your VIN, I can look up the exact part in the Japanese Parts Catalog for your Sambar.

Oh! Thank you for responding. Finding the part would also be awesome, and the VIN is below. We cannot find the LOCATION of the crank sensor on the engine? Thank you so very much!

Your Sambar is 3 months newer than mine . Built October 1992, where mine was July 1992.

So, you have the EN07C engine, which is carbureted. There is no crank sensor, since there is no computer. Only the Supercharged Sambars were the only ones with a computer, and the only position sensor for that was inside the distributor. Why do you believe that you need a crank sensor? What is the truck doing?

Well that explain why I couldn’t find it! Thank you.

I suspected crank sensor because it has run reliably for 13 years and now it starts right up but then dies within a few seconds. I can nurse it to a high rpm, but sill, it ultimately dies. Compression is great, it’s getting fuel to the carb, and spark is strong, and plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor and filters are all new.

    Any thoughts are much appreciated.

I would suspect either a vacuum leak (28 year old rubber hoses and all), or the carb itself needs to be cleaned out/tuned up.

Unfortunately, I do not have a whole lot of personal experience with carburetors, but the symptoms you describe seem to be somewhat "common" with older carbed vehicles.
