    2018-2019 Legacy Fake Exhaust Tip

    Hi gang,

New to this forum—glad to be here! I need help locating an exhaust outlet for my 2018 Legacy 2.5i (base trim). Everywhere I look on the web, all I can find is exhaust extensions for a 3.6R—the kind that attach directly to the tailpipe and that are round in shape.

I’m looking for the exhaust extension that attaches to the lower rear bumper itself, that is oval in shape, that came on the 2.5i Premium and Limited. I’ve attached images of what I’m looking for. My local Subaru garage is of no help—all he shows me is the 3.6R extension.

    Any suggestions?

I do not believe that it is sold separately. From what it looks like in the parts catalog, it is part of the muffler. Is it even removable? (without breaking it)

Thanks for your reply! It's not actually attached to the muffler. It's attached with two bolts to the underside of the lower rear bumper. You can make out the two bolts in the photos--their are two tabs on either side of the unit and the bolts attach to those to the lower rear bumper. Seems like its made of unobtanium. Can't find it anywhere ... which is kind of odd, since I'm guessing I'm not the only owner of a 2.5i Base wanting to upgrade the look of their car. I've started calling salvage yards. I'll see where that leads me.

It looks to be this part (highlighted in Blue). It is part number 44071AL000. https://estore.subarupartswarehouse....4071AL000.html

For some strange reason, it does not show up on the parts.subaru.com diagrams, but it is listed in the text as "Diffuser, Exhaust Bumper". It does show up on the 2018+ versions of FAST, and this screenshot is from that.

OMG! That’s IT! Wow. I can’t believe you found it. I’m going to jump on it and order it right away. I owe you a six-pack of your favorite brew! Thank you!

I always though the name for the part was a bit unusual

Agreed. Maybe it diffuses the exhaust? Who knows. No wonder I wasn't able to find it. I've ordered it and after I install it, I'll post some pics.

I love Subaru and I love my Legacy--but for cripe's sake, Subaru, pay attention to how you name parts!

It gets better-in the factory second gen. leggy repair manual, the non-functioning hood scoop on the outback was called a "food scoop"

Love it! That’s one of those “you can’t make this stuff up” things. Gotta love Subaru.

It isn't an actual Diffuser, but it is in the right area to be one.
