    rkrenicki's 2013 GP7 Impreza Sport - 2021-03-29 Daughter's New(ish) Car!

Today, we picked up a new 2013 Impreza Sport. This is my Daughter's car, so not a whole lot of modding will be done, but a few things will be changed here and there.

I managed to get the radio installed today, and I tested out the new cluster. I need to wait about 6000 miles before I can swap it, but it does work perfectly.

First, the radio: It is a bit of a tight fit with all of the car integration stuff back in the dash.. but I did get it all installed. I need to do some research on the wiring for the camera before I can get that done.

And here is the VA chassis WRX cluster that I test fitted. I need to disable the headlight leveler lights, but otherwise it pairs up properly with the car. It will be a nice upgrade once the mileage comes around.

I added a few things to the list.

I have a couple of "High Function Display" modules from various Imprezas and Foresters.. I think I will end up going with the US SJ Forester version does not have the HVAC LCD, but I will see which one cooperates the best with the car once I make the harness. I cannot finalize the installation until after some selector switches arrive from Japan which will not be here until February.

Same thing with the Auto-Up/Down switches which are in the same package. I may need to do some repinning to make them work, but the Japanese BMM Legacy B4 switch modules should drop in on both the Impreza and the Forester.

I finally put all of the Subarus in a row today. Finding a time when all of them are home during the daylight is not the easiest thing in the world.

About a month ago. I have a thread for her car, although it is not very long. We have not decided what to name the car yet, so it still has boring license plates.

I moved this over to her thread. We do not know yet.. no name has really resonated yet, but she absolutely wants to change the plate.

Well, after having the car for the day to have new tires installed combined with the beautiful weather this afternoon, means I get to cross some things off the pending to-do list.

Today, I installed the 14/15 Forester "High Grade Multi Function Display", along with the VA chassis WRX/STI radio dash trim. It is only a handful of wires needed to add this, but I stripped the bits out of a 2015 WRX dash harness that I picked up on eBay to make it as "plug and play" as I could. I only needed to tap into the illumination wires, everything else slotted into an unused spot on an existing connector.

Here are the wiring bits stripped from the WRX harness needed to make this work, along with the selector switch..

I really did not care about the "carbon fiber look" of the radio trim, but it is the only version of this trim available that allows for the center "joystick" control needed for this mod. That particular piece was the most expensive part of this project by far because people want the "carbon fiber look".

There has been a bit of a lineup change here at the house, so this will become my daughters car in the near future after some other things get sorted out.

I tried to install the auto-window switches, and I will need to repin something as they do not work. I ordered some Japanese manuals for the post-refresh BM/BR chassis (which the switch modules come from), so I will have the proper wiring diagrams soon.

In other news, I did order a set of power folding mirrors from a Japanese Impreza 1.6i Proud Edition. I also ordered a set of turn signal assemblies for the mirrors.

She hasn't quite gotten the car yet. Until probate is all figured out on the Legacy and we can get it registered in our name, my wife continues to drive the Impreza. We expect a few more months before the swap can happen.

Today, I swapped out the tail lights with the Crosstrek Hybrid lights. For some reason, Subaru decided to use a different version of the same connector for the pigtails.. just slightly different so it cannot be plugged straight in. Since they are the same kind of connector, I just had to depin both the Crosstrek and the Impreza lights and swap the connectors around.

It looks like we have a week of beautiful weather, so I hope to knock out a bunch of projects. I finally finished the wiring on the backup camera today.

The car finally hit the required mileage, so the WRX cluster went in today. The Si-Drive indicator was blinking. I tried to ground out the Si input, but that ended up throwing some CELs for the transmission system, so I ended up putting a black sticker over the indicator on the LCD. Luckily no other function uses that section of the screen.

Well, Probate is finally (mostly) sorted out, so the driver change is official. The Impreza is now my Daughters car, just as she is about to go off to campus for the semester... so I guess I will need to drive the car every now and then to run it until she gets back home from college.

Not a whole lot has happened with this car since my last post. Mostly just basic maintenance. I did end up replacing the back-up camera yesterday because the first one would intermittently not work for some reason. The power folding mirrors still have not yet been installed, I need to get some back-caps for them with the turn signals before I can do those and it has been low on my priority list.

That must have been some debate, to run that long to reach a consensus.
