Unhappy 4EAT not engaging after putting engine back in, twice..

    Hey all,

I have a recently acquired 2002 Australian market Liberty B4 twin-turbo with the 4-speed auto that has the electro sports shift or whatever

I bought the car for dirt cheap (2000aud or about 1300usd) with a blown head gasket, she heated up quickly but drove normally otherwise

Pulled the engine with the torque converter still on, fixed it up, and put it back in with the torque converter still on, and with a lot of force which i now know is a very very bad idea

That unsurprisingly didn't work, we put it all back together and she started / ran beautifully but didn't drive, all gears felt like neutral except she revved up a little in drive and reverse. If it's worth noting at this point, all gears except D lit up on the dashboard, even 1, 2, 3 and all 1-4 manual mode gears on the little screen aswell, just no D.

So we take the engine back out again with the torque converter, replace the front transmission seal, and seat the TC properly with plenty of grease - this time she goes in absolutely beautifully (felt 3 clicks before we greased her up and redid it, went in same distance) and in what looks to be all the way by referencing with pictures online. The TC was spun at this point and I could hear fluid splashing around inside, if that means anything.

Anyway, the engine naturally goes in beautifully aswell but when we put it all back together and start her again nothing has changed, still no driving and still revving up a little in drive / reverse, still no D lighting up on the dash, except this time theres a loud electronic-sounding buzzing coming from what sounds like the transmission's valve body.

Right now i'm thinking the most likely scenario is we fucked up something inside the transmission during our first piss poor installation attempt, but i dont know if that would explain the more electronic-y symptoms ?

I think early on i might have jacked the transmission up a little from the pan aswell, which i also now know is a terrible idea.

I know i'm an absolute idiot but hey it's a learning experience, right ...?

I just want to know how screwed i am at this point, are we correct in thinking the transmission is dead on the inside ? Is it some easy fix electronic issue ? Please help me lol.

    Thank you greatly

Disconnect a trans line and tell us if it's pumping fluid. It should be a pretty serious jet of fluid.

If you fucked up anything with a forced install it'll be the pump.

The buzzing but no go indicates solenoids are trying to do their job but the bits that should be moving from fluid pressure to engage stuff are not doing so.
