    DIY: The Honda Mugen Lip

One of the first things i decided to do with my car when I got it was put a new lip on it, and after a little bit of searching i came across AWDsome's BE and it was love at first sight. However after searching and searching there was no retrofit threads or DIY's of this lip or let alone any other lip mounted on the bumper instead of underneath. So I put it off for a while until recently when I found myself on Amazon looking at lips and other random parts for my car. Still skeptical about the lip I put it in my cart and showed my friend, looked away for a minute, and presto! HE PRESSED ORDER! (mind you I kinda wanted him to)

Anyways after about a week the lip came in and unfortunately it landed on the two weeks of midterms I had. So i decided to be productive till I had time to work on it and did more research on the lip. After looking at a couple more members like AWDsome, 4REEL and STIdarkside I figured out the the best way to mount it.

    So here we go.

Link to the Lip (The lip itself is a "Honda Accord Mugen Replica Lip for a 4 door Sedan")
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o00_s00_i00

    List of tasks
    1. decide where to cut the lip so that it won't interfere with the support in the bumper
    2. make templates of where to cut
    3. trace it on the lip
    4. cut it out
    5. test fit it
    6. sand and finish all the edges
    7. (optional) paint it
    8. mount it up

Number 1. decide where to cut it
As you can see the valence itself has a lip on the top that would lay on the bumper of the accord but with our BE's we don't have the luxury of all that open space so there needs to be some cutting done for the two pillars in the front. And also near the fogs the lip will interfere a bit.

    Original Lip

    The Bumper

As you can see this just wont work out the way it is

    Number 2. make a template

So I found a productive way to use the old box

First I made a template of how the area near the fogs curved around

Second I tackled the task of the middle pillars
So I took the cardboard, traced the edge of the lip, and after allot of measuring and came up with this

The original template near the fogs just didn’t work out so I free handed a couple more templates and the final product looked something like this

Number 3 Tracing the template on the lip

With some care to make sure that it was centred

Number 4 Cutting it all out

    Number 5 test fit it

Simple as that test fit it and see where if any more cuts need to be made

I ran into some problems with the clearance of the back of the lip and the bumper so I trimmed out some of the lip

    Number 6 finishing and sanding

I kinda got caught up with all of this so I didn’t stop to take any pictures sorry guys

    Number 7

If you want this would be the stage where you can paint

I decided not to paint at this time but there is always the possibility of painting later on

    Number 8

I’ve been going on and off about putting more mounts on the inside of the bumper for more screws or bolts but I feel as though the couple of bolts in the back will be fine

Instead of doing what most people do which is take some screws and just go at it I decided that I would use some 1/4” speed nuts and 1” long bolts to mount it

And there you go heres some pics of how mine turned out after cutting and test fitting

Heres the pictures of it mounted and finished up

I don't have to much worries about it cause just like with any lip a heat gun and some elbow grease should get it to fit just right with no problems

thanks! your right the test fit pictures dont really do it any justice. I'm stoked about how well it came out though, still debating whether or not I wanna colour match it when winters over but I have lots of time to convince myself its worth it

Mugen lip on my wagon. Got it done the quick and dirty way and drilled like 6-7 screws into the bumper and just kinda bent it into place.

if you have the time and are willing to put in the effort i would definitely suggest cutting down the lip IMHO I think it looks allot cleaner then just the bottom mount, but thats just me.

I think i'm gonna buy two of these lips since they're so cheap. I'd like to mount mine at the bottom so that when i lower it, it appears to be much lower and I scrape on everything but then once i break it, no way it won't break haha I'll mount it in the same fashion you did JBGoodnuf. Great write up, that looks really good!
