    can't make up my mind...

If you have ever talked to me about my future plans with my car, you have probly heard a different story each time you talked to me about it. Recently I fell into a position at work that I got an unexpected raise for. This opened up some oprotunities for me that I couldn't take before. Now I am looking to keep the BE mostly stock, and just finish up a few things I am currently working on and use it for my daily driver. Once I get it paid off (another reason for slowing down of the BE mods), I am looking to get a summer only car. Question is, what do I get? I have narrowed it down to 4 cars.

    Legacy Spec.B:

    Impreza STi LIMITED:

    Non Subaru Options...

Honda S2000: (only honda I would ever own)

    Mid 90's BMW M3:

My vote is the STI limited. I was actually able to tag along on a test drive of one a few months ago pre-release (unfortunately i didnt get to drive) but it is an amazing car. I love it very very much. The one thing is they have done alot in the way of comfort and luxury getting away from the 'young badass street' look. The non-limited keeps that appearance. However, I still like the limited. Beautiful car IMO.

Sadly, instead of the gorgeous Legacy I have to go with the STi Limited. Its just so sexy looking, much better than the non-Limited.

I was an S2000 fan until I saw them tear it apart on TopGear

STi FTW! More power in smaller package.. yeaaaah boy

O.K let me get this straight. Your keeping the BE and looking for a summer car? How long is your summer and how hot does it get in upstate NY?

Those are all really hard choices.

Depending on the winter. You can usually break out the toys around mid April, for sure by May 1st. Don't need to put 'em away till Late October or early November... Its usually reaches low 100's (or close to) for about a week, but avg. hottest portion would be high 80's to low 90's.

EDIT: Haha, STI LIMITED from everyone so far? I figured I'd get atleast a Spec.B vote within the first few... Guess I am going to have to investigate the LIMITED more now

booooo, on the STi limited. I spoke with a guy who drove one, and he said the suspension is soft, and the leather seats really turn me off. We all know that the STi is handling car that happens to be fast, rather than a comfortable luxury (fast) car.

If you want the luxury fast, get the M3

S2000 would be the REAL summer vehicle to get, but insurance is sky high (higher than the STi and the M3). In fact, all 3 (besides the specB) made the top 10 highest, under $50,000 car insurance list. The Legacy would easily be the lowest of the group, with about half the cost, if not less, than the STi.

My vote is the Spec B all the way.

as I said my friend got a test drive. I got to go along but I didn't get to actually drive it. He said it handled pretty similar to his (an 06). Its def softer but not too noticable unless you plan on taking it to the next level.. I think you wouldn't notice too much difference dd, even if you drove it pretty hard.

As much as I like the new imprezas, I voted for the Spec B.

Two of those cars, the WRX and the S2000, are within the top 5 most expensive cars to insure according to a recent article on MSN.com. The M3, being that it's a sports coupe, will probably also be expensive to insure, not to mention A LOT more expensive to work on.

If money is no object, it depends on your needs. I'd personally love to have a S2k, but only if I had a sedan at the same time.

I guess I'm the only one that finds the STI ugly as hell.
If this is a summer only car I wouldn't get the Legacy.
    For a roadster I'd get a Miata over a S2000 anyday.
    That leaves the M3...

I was in a rush before I left work. If this is a summer only car and you can afford the insurance, I'd definately go S2k...nothing like riding around with the top down, and the car is just dead sexy. If you can't afford the insurance, the new miata is still nice and is can be made even faster. Definately go with a 2 seater for a summer only car.

The only true summer car in bunch is the S2000. Top down wind in your hair.
If it get above 85 degrees you will want the top up though. I am with Mark.
If you want to go fast with Luxury M3. But I would have to go with the Spec B.
I still have found love with the Edsel front on the STI.

Go for the house. Property goes up (usually) and cars always go down. Unless you have a mad raise and have bought a classic Ferrari or something.

Are you paying cash for the summer only car? Because your depreciation is DOUBLE that of someone who drives it year round - they're actually getting money's worth from it.

    But, if you insist...

for a SUMMER ONLY car - the honda s2000. It's already a classic chassis, it goes like stink, if you have the balls to wind it up hard enough. It looks great right out of the box, and it's nimble enough to take straight from the dealer to the auto-x course.

Plus, everyone knows Hondas retain their purchase value far better that any other marque - across their entire model range.

My vote is for the E36… Simply because it’s the least expensive (15~18k) out of your choices. If you’re only looking for a fun summer car, why drop the major cash for a brand-new 30k ride, which you wouldn’t enjoy as both a daily driver and fun car? You must have gotten a huge raise to let an expensive car like that sit…

I guess I am looking at it from the prospective that no matter which one I choose. That will turn into the project car. So it doesn't make sense to me to spend that kind of money on a car and watch as it rots into the ground due to winter salt. Besides, how hard would it be to drive a modded M3 in 1' of snow when you have an AWD Legacy sitting right next to it...

I guess this involves more thought than I originally expected.

I am going to have to decide what makes the most economic sense, while appealing to my mod bug...

Ok there was no "house" option in the poll or I would have voted that!
Also none of these are "project" cars (well MAYBE the M3).
You can get fast fun cars for a LOT cheaper if you want.

You're right, there is no house option on the poll. I guess this thread was an enlightening experience for me...

Its not the idea that I can get cheaper cars that are fun to drive, it is getting a car that I want, that is fun to drive, a resonable sized aftermarket for, and would be somewhat unique. All the cars I listed are "rare" for the area. I have only seen 4 STi's (of any year), the only Spec.B is still at the dealership (MY06 B), I have only seen one S2K, and 2 M3's in the model year range I gave.

What cars did you have in mind?
