So I bought 11 (5x Scangauge II 6x Scanguage "e") of these units for my Subaru crew.
My fancy Scangauge II showing off the SS Bezel )
Let me start off by saying these units are not perfect!
1) Even though the unit seems to respond quickly the concept behind OBDII can not keep up to the speed of our fingers.
2) You must wait in between menu's when you scan, check, clear codes.
3) Reading real-time values in the Gauge display system is not instant. By default these units are set to update values at a "NORMAL" rate. You can change this in the "Advanced Setup" menu. Set it to FAST.
(Warning)
2000+ Legacy / 02+ Impreza report glitchy results on "FAST" .. Change to NORMAL!
--> Flickering / MPH|KPH updates @ 8 second!! / Turns off every 5 seconds.
turbocharged subarus report glitchy results do to such rapid changing values.
PID = Process Identification
-- Used for all data collection.
-- Some PID's do not work like Air Intake Temp.
OBDII Support:
Pre-95 - Not supported
Some 95 OBDII equiped subarus
All 96+ subarus.
Installation:
-> All ScanGauge come with 2x pieces of velcro, OBDII cable and Scangauge Unit.
-> Attach velcro to Scangauge and then to your dash/steering column.
-> Simply shove/push the cable in between your steering column and the dash board. The cable will bunch up under the cluster/gauges and then just plug the connector into your OBDII port.
There are lots of "clean" ways to install the cable but in the end why drill holes when its as simple as shoving it behind the steering column.
Connections / Setup:
95-99 Legacy / 95-01 Impreza/Forester
-- MUST SET PID to SUPPORTED! If not unit will turn off after 5-10 seconds OR Flickers (On / Off)
--> Scangauge II -> More -> Setup -> Advanced Setup -> PIDS -> set to "Supported" not ALL.
--> Scangauge e -> More -> same as above but different menu structures.
--> SLOW/NORMAL/FAST all of them work...
2000+ Legacy / 2002+ Impreza/Forester
-- PLUG N' PLAY
-- No Need for PID settings.. These ECU's can handle all PID
-- Do Not set update rate to FAST!! Leave it.. default is NORMAL.
Mode/Protocol:
-- OBDII is a industry standard for automotive diagnostics and uses a Universal Connector
-- Every manufacture uses their own protocol to communicate with the OBDII port
-----FORD Products: PWM or CANSF
-----GM Products: VPW , ISO or CANSF
-----Chrysler Products: ISO, VPW or CANSF
-----Volvo Products: ISO, CANSF or CANLF
-----Others: ISO, KWPS, KWPF, CANSF, CANLF, CANSS or CANLS
-- Subarus can use a wide range of Protocols but in all 11 cases "ISO" is the proper protocol / mode
Functions:
Scangauge II: $155 CAN
--> All the features of the "e" but no fuel graph (honestly its pointless)
--> Daisy-Chain capable. (Install additional "II" or "e" for more gauges/graphs)
--> Larger 16 characters wide two rows.
--> Gauge info is displayed in full and shows 4 values .. ie. RPM/VOLT/Water Temp/KPH
--> Plug from behind or from side via RJ45 connector.
Scangauge e: $95 CAN
--> No performance features.. 0-60.. 60-0 . 1/4mile times.. lap times..
--> Shows fuel graph (smalll pixeled graphic.. pointless)
--> Only 9 characters wide with 2 rows.
--> Shows only 2 gauge values per screen. ie. RPM/KPH .. must push button for second/third/forth gauge value screen.
--> No Daisy-Chain feature.
--> Only rear RJ45 connection.
Troubleshooting:
1) No Response from the Scan feature / SCAN shows Not Ready / "?" question mark shows instead of the number of codes..
---> Reason: Com-link not established
---> Solution: go to GAUGE. wait for RPM to show proper value.. then go back to SCAN and wait for the code to be found.
---> OBDII system is slow!! Wait in between each command you send!
2) Scanguage turns off after 5-10 seconds
---> Your Subaru is 95-99 and your PID is set to ALL.. Change it to Supported. Turn engine off then on.. then go to GAUGE wait for RPM value to show. ALL GOOD.
3) Scangauge constantly flickers / only shows Volt value / Scan function does not work.
---> Scangauge has a tendency to change the Mode / Protocol every now and then.
---> Reason: Unit has been disconnected from OBDII port for to long... / Glitch in Com-Link protocol / Malfunctioning Unit / 2000+ ECU and using FAST setting
---> Solution: Force the Mode / Protocol into "ISO"
--->
4) 2000+ Legacy / 2002+ Impreza - Scangauge constantly flickers and turns off / Values are extrmely slow to update.
--> Scangauge receives values constantly from the OBDII / ECU and post-2000 ECU's send enormous amounts of data to the OBDII port.
--> Reason: This causes the Scangauge to get overwhelmed during its read function and causes the unit to glitch and turn off.
--> Solution: Change the Update Rate to "NORMAL" instead of "FAST". By default these units are set to "NORMAL"
Warranty / Upgrade
-- Linear Logic provides a 3 year limited warranty with a 9am-4pm 1-800 # to call.
-- FIRMWARE upgrades are available but require shipping the unit to Linear Logic.
---> Also if you purchased your unit before Jan 2011 you must pay $25 for the upgrade.
---> If your purchased after Jan 2011 you just have to pay for shipping one way only.
I will add more when I finish all my tweaking and custom XCommand's for our Leggy'
