Re: Post your Audio Mods Here

Pioneer AVIC-N2 6.5" Flip Screen DVD Based Navigation System Head Unit
    Polk MOMO 500.1 Monoblock Amp
Polk MOMO 400.4 4 Channel Amp
JL Audio 6.5" Component Speaker Front with 1" Tweeter
JL Audio 6.5" Mids in Rear Doors
    JL Audio 10" W6 Subwoofer
    Tsunami 1 Farad Capacitor
    Optima Yellow Top
Dynamat in All 4 doors, spare tire well, rear deck lid, and floor pans
And a Viper remote start security system combo

That is what I arrived at after 4 years in an Alero with Premier Head unit, the same amps, JVC 4x6's, 6x9's, JL tweeters, and 2 Polk audio 12" subs in a ported box and $4,000. With age comes appreciation for quality sound, not just volume. And a love for a Subaru Legacy and a desire to treat her well.

Ok as of now i have an optima red top, zero gauge TIFF power wire W/100 amp fuse to a splitter. One goes to 8 gauge to an 800 watt blaupunked amp to 2, 400 watt each 3 way pioneer 6x9. The other is a 4 gauge to a 2000 watt hittron amp and a 2 farad capacitor pushing a KIcker CVR 15" sub.

Pretty much have a hard time breathing in the back seat.

Re: Post your Audio Mods Here

right now i've got a panasonic head unit
alpine type s front and rear
    factory tweeters up front
    2 10" kicker Comps
    Rockford comp woven 4ga kit
    Rockford amp
    Custom sealed box

I've had so many setups; 2 Rockford 12"s, JL audio 10", audiobahn 12"s, etc...

anyone have a box where the spare tire is supposed to be? Ive heard lots of these, and built one, but never in a wagon... I can only assume it would sound good, and I need the room for the auto-x stuff honestly, so that may be the next project. that, or make a singe 10" box on the drivers side against the access panel (since I have no spare, I have no jack.. lol)

Re: Post your Audio Mods Here

The 95 Legacy I just bought comes with a JVC KD-G300 CD-RW/MP3 head unit. Amazing how much difference just a head unit can make in terms of sound quality - I'm under the impression they're still powering the OEM 14-year-old speakers but it's still quite a step up. Plus I'm digging the MP3 feature - didn't know what I was missing this whole time.

Unfortunately the clock only comes on when the unit is on - so I just turn the volume all the way down on FM mode instead of powering down the head unit so I don't lose the clock.

Re: Post your Audio Mods Here

well, im starting along the path of making my box for the spare tire. Not sure if Im gonna make this box for a single or dual 10"s yet, but i've cut out a template and im going to cut out some MDF for the top panel today. im trying to figure out the airspace, since I'll be fiberglassing the bottom, this wont be an exact number, but i want it to be close. Plus, the Amp will be down there...

damnit, I have to many projects!!!

If anyone else has done this in a wagon, I would love to hear some feedback about how the floor panel interacts with the sound. I cant see it being any different than a back seat really, but i guess I'll find out soon!!!

Re: Post your Audio Mods Here

ok, so after some calculations, i'm kinda stumped as to a precise number for the airspace in the wheel well...
my measurements are the spare well are (rounded to nearest .5 inch)
    top of well 27"x27"
    bottom of well 21"x23"
    depth of most parts 7.5"
a 1.5" high ring around the spare tire mounting point 6"x9"

im figuring it to be around 2.4 cubic feet

and then I use fiberglass and .75 MDF for a lid... so we could say maybe 2.2 Cubic feet after all done?
i guess I need to find somewhere else to run the amp, since my speakers want 1.1 ft... which works out about perfect if my calculations are correct...

maybe I can pull up the panel on the drivers side floor, pull out the foam the panel rests on, and replace it with MDF. then the amp could live under that panel, and it would still be strong...

I built a custom sub box for the rear of my wagon and it fits two Rockford Fosgate low profile 10" subs perfectly and you only lose 6" of depth. The sub box fits right behind the rear seat and fills the entire storage area, so you toss the carpet back over it and nobody even knows it is there (I also cover the subs with 1/4" perforated stainless steel mesh so you can use the storage space). There is about 20" of space at the front of the box and before the rear of the seat, so I integrated the amplifier/capacitor storage into the whole unit, that takes care of where to put your amplifier. I don't have good photos right now, but I've posted a link to one of them so you get the idea. My '90 wagon was rear ended about 1 1/2 years ago and it was a writeoff (I had the paint from the other car's hood on the bottom of my fuel tank!), but I have a JDM '94 Legacy Wagon EJ20H coming into port next week and all of my stereo equipment from the '90 will be going into that. I'll post a complete listing of my setup once it is finished.

    Currently I have,
    Pioneer avh-p5700dvd
    pioneer vehicle dynamics processor
    pioneer 12 disc changer
    phoenix gold tweeters
kenwood 3-way 6.5s in front and rear
    tv sunvisors
    2 Alpine v12 amps 400w
    2 audiopipe 12's in a bandpass box

also have compustar remote start security system w/ 2way paging remote, remote paging system, remote trunk release, and window rollup modules.

future plans are a complete fiberglass enclosure with all new subs amps and speakers. Probably going to use Vibe audio since it is a line we sell at work and I can get for really cheap. I will also be adding more tv monitors and probably an Xbox 360.

What center bezel? You mean the Nav? That's stock. The only custom part inside is the carved up MY2005 radio.

install? you mean you didnt do it. that would have shaved another 500 off. i have mid grade soundstream everything (soundstream itself is already high quality) except the deck and i only paid 1300 for all mine

actual install was only 300...i had the cost of the alpine amp in that price, (misstype) still everything is incredible the highs extemely crisp although it could use some more mid punch but i think some dynamat or something along those lines in he next few months will clarify that up a bit, and my eclipse's are out of this world for being just 10's...i threw in a cd of the scorpions mixed with electric light orchestra and it sounds like a concert hall...also watch some x-men origins with the dvd display and sounds like i'm sittin in my uncles 8000$+ entertainment room...although we have different equipment you get what you pay for...my deck has navigation, xm, sirius, dvd, bluetooth, ipod, etc. all that would cost you roughly 800 in addition to your car if you go purchase them seperately on top of the price you paid for your deck so that would make us pretty close to even price wise

Re: Post your Audio Mods Here

well and i didnt tell you that ive know the owner of the audio shop for about 7 years. so if anyone else walked in and got exactly what i got, it would be around 2k for them. i get crazy discounts cause he'll call me up at random times and need my help with an install (he doesnt have installers on staff...pursay) and he doesnt pay me for my help, he just gives me mad discounts on stuff. like one time i helped him with some easy stuff. and he knows my gf loves pink, plus he likes her anyway. so he threw me a pink LED underbody kit for her blazer for free. and it was the slimline LEDs instead of the big bulky tubes so it wasnt a cheap kit. thats why all my freinds come to me for audio cause they know i get discounts. but even still certain stuff gets kinda pricey. but like you said, you pay for what you get.
