What does it really take to host a meet, anyway?

I might want to do something like this in the future, and was curious to know what legal aspects and organization skillz are required to put one together. (Even if it's a simple "let's get together for dinner" meet.)

Find a place, a time and post it up. And make sure you show up too.

These days, it's getting nice enough to name a park, and bring a grill (with stuff to grill!).

Sometimes you need to get a permit for gathering. This usually applies to parks. Usually large parking lot meets will result in the police breaking it up. You can stay parked so long as you are heading towards the business for that lot. Just make sure people aren't screwing off, and you shouldn't have too many issues.

We used to always meet at a kind of outdoor mall place (movie theater, stores, and restaurants). We talked to the managers of the complex, and got their approval to meet up on a certain date, and they made sure security didn't hassle us for standing around for an hour as long as we weren't idiots.

Skill requirements - People skills, motivations to go through with the meet as planned and the know how to post. I have 1 of 3 of the skills and I put together 2 small meets. All you really need is a place, a time and people.

I would recommend not going at it alone.

why not, i single handedly revived the worcester meets. now they are our of control... so many people we can't really even talk at a table.

    you just gotta keep trying.

eat somewhere where everyone can be pleased, we often do Red Robin, or Moe's, etc. in plazas, where there's plenty of parking and little chance to have your balls busted.

One thing that got me thinking lately was to try and convince local dealerships to host some kind of clinic day or simply come out for some exposure. I've wanted to go somewhere where you actually get to talk to techs or participate in something big.

It's always nice to go on the 'boards and look up new posts, but I think it's time I graduated my respect for the Subaru community into something bigger.

Over the next few weeks I'm going to be contacting the three major Subaru dealerships in the area to see what their interest is in showing their stuff to the local community. I anticipate they will probably decline, but I will at least try.

I wonder if I can get participation for a not-for-profit cause like cancer, or autism? (I've actually been thinking about doing something charitable for YEARS, and haven't done anything yet.)

Would anyone here go to a meet in eastern PA if it happened? (My area is north of Collegeville and west of Quakertown... might wanna have a meet around there.)

As long as I'm dreaming here, I have a couple of "I-would-reall-like-this-to-happen" scenarios:

    1. A local Subaru meet at Green Lane Reservoir Park in Pennsburg or Red Hill, including local Subaru dealerships and activities

    2. A Subaru meet at one of the Pennsylvania tracks/dragstrips

    (I don't dream small, do I? )

I used to host a meet called "The Subaru Feed and Speed". I did it for three years and it was quite fun. It was a shop night/BBQ at my house on a Fri, breakfast and then drags at Beaver Springs on a Sat and then back road mayhem on Sun. It was never too big, the one year about 65 people said they're were going to come for the Saturday events and only about 25 actually did but it was still super cool. Good people, good times. People came from MA, NY, MD OH PA DC. It was a pretty damn good mix.

All I did was just decide I wanted to do it. Set up a weekend when there was open track time and posted it up on the various boards. I actually got CES Racing to come to the first one (drags got rained out that year) and they raffled a CES Racing up-pipe that Vikash (VRG3, a legend in the 1st gen world) ended up winning.

I've been actually kicking around starting it up again this next summer. My nieghbor Jason (dropdfocus) has offered the use of his garage for the shop night and instead of running drags I was thinking of planning it around an AutoX or just back roads. We'll see.

But anyways, if you want to host a meet just gor for it. Plan a date and agenda and then post it up, and stay on top of it. Maybe initially post a poll on a couple of dates too. Just to see where you get the most interest.
