    Engine Year?

I want to buy an sti engine. How do i differ a....2000 sti to 2007 let' s say?? I'm talking about ...''on my left there's a crate with an engine and on my right there's another.'' which one is the newest?? Forget the 2.0 L / 2.5 L comparison i understand that....there's no tranny either. How do i not get screwed? Thanks

Shouldn't the person selling the engine know what it is? If not, Look for certain OBD parts or the Intake design?

Otherwise, I'd leave it alone. But that's me, not you.

should have a VIN on it somewhere that will give you info at least on the car it came out of.

If the seller can't even tell you the year, or can't be trusted to not lie to you, RUN AWAY.

That said, you can probably look up the year from the engine code which will be on a sticker on the timing cover. I don't have a reference handy to cross it with though.

There is no VIN on any Subaru motor afaik, so you won't be able to do that.
