    Old School Subie Love

    Just picked this up last week...



    It is a 1984 Subaru GL 4WD Wagon with a dual-range 4spd manual tranny. It is a little rough right now, but I have plans for her...

    My first Subaru was an 80 something 5MT wagon a little newer than that one. That dual-range transmission is the only thing I miss about it.....

    Well, it currently sounds like a VW bug because the exhaust is gone. The body is in great shape with just some very light surface rust from where the paint got thin over the years. Interior needs some work.

    It has been on a non-op registration for a couple years, and currently has the "ECS" light on. So, because this coupled with the exhaust keeping it from passing emissions the plan is...

    I have an EJ22 from a 1995 Subaru Impreza and a dular-range 4WD 5spd tranny from an ea82 that are getting swapped in. Will add power steering at this time as well.

    I will be keeping the 4 x 140 bolt battern hubs, but upgrading the rear drums to disc. I will also keep the stock wagon wheels, and just give them a fresh white paint job.

    Additionally I will be giving the entire vehicle a two-tone paint job- red and white. The interior is going to have a color change from blue to gray. Seats are going to be replaced with 2006 WRX TR seats. Tentative plan is to throw one Elemental Designs SQ10 subwoofer in the rear hatch door. However, depending on how the front seats go in, it may go under the front passenger seat. Front speakers I will have to see how/where to mount.

    The goal is for a nice daily driver that is also capable of getting me where I want to go when I am heading to the beach, woods, mountains, and backcountry.

    Wow, that's lookin' sharp. I tried to sand my wheels when I had the '83, and I quickly lost patience and gave up. Hand sanding FTL.
