04 WRX Transmission into 4EAT 1998 LegacyGT Bugs

Hi everyone I'm new here but I worked on Subaru's for a while and owned mine for about a year and half. I have 1998 Subaru Legacy GT Limited Edition Black and I just finished my 5 speed manual swap two weeks ago.

Now I have few bugs to fix.

One is ABS light is on I have two codes one is 44 and another is 56 and that's because TCM is disconnected, I plug it pack in and ABS light turns off, but the idle is high around 1500 RPM.

Also cruise control doesn't work either but I can figure that out latter. If anyone has seen this problem I will be apreciated in knowing how to fix it. I tried giving 12v to ABS that turned the light off on start up but turns back on when driving, giving less then 12v stay's on.

    Any help will be apreciated...

The idle is high around 1500 rpms? Is this all the time or when the engine is cold? Because that's normal until you warm everything up.

Contact xcntrk75 about the problem. I know he found a way around it.

Someone at Nasioac told me that I should plug the transmission control module back in but leave the middle connector unplug and that should fix the ABS light and possibly cruise light and fix the 1500 RPM idle at all time. Will let you guys know tomorrow after I fix the wires I cut. I hope this will fix it.

Sweet this worked great, I got my ABS back and the light is out. But the cruise is still not working but that's because I havent wire up the nuetral safety switch to the two wires on the center cancel that makes the TCM think that vehicle is in gear not in nutral, since cruise doesn't work in nutral. Thanks for everybodies help and I hope this will help anybody that will do auto to manual conversion. This was worth the effort and time recomend to anyone that likes a challenge.

Hi everybody this is an update after driving two thousand on my new/used tranny. My MIL is off, ABS is still off and works great. I haven't had time to wire the cruise control so that doesn't work right now. But I did notice a slight vibration/like a heat shield rattle around 70miles up to 80miles an hour. The first thing I tried was rotating the drive shaft since driveshaft and rear diff are from two defferent vehicles. I moved it one hole and that actually made it little worse. Now it's vibrating a around 40 and 70 MPH so tomorrow I will try to move the drive shaft to another hole. So I wonder if anyone have felt this or heard it when they did a manual swapt and how did you fixed it. I personally thing it could be driveshaft bend or out of balance.

OK I moved the driveshaft another hole and it didn't change anything, so I have one more try left and if that doesn't fix it I would have to say that driveshaft is bend. But I drove on the rack and I didn't hear that noise so I might need to investigate little more before I replace the driveshaft.

    It's probably road noise/alignment/wheel balance.

When you're on a road, vibration occurs regardless.

I don't think it's road noise, or alignment problem since I got my alignment done right after I put in my coilovers, and I balance my wheels and they are straight.

Ok I finally got a chance to try to move the driveshaft another hole and guess what happen, it didn't fix it. I still have the noise and I'm probably going to get another drive shaft and see if that noise goes away. Will post resolt as soon as I find out.

No the drive shaft I have is off wrecked legacy of a manual transmission since Impreza drive shaft won't work. And I do think it's either bend or out of round so Foster Auto Parts is going to get me another one and I'm going to try to swap it with mine and see if that makes any different. The only think I'm worring is that both of the drive shafts are off a 1995 legacy it's fairly old and there a higher potential that it will be damaged. I will update when I swap the drive shaft and will let you all know.

I just put in a different driveshaft and I got one of a 1997 legacy manual transmission, and guess what happen? It didn't fix my noise problem, so now I'm thinking that it's a wheel bearing and it's the loudes at 68 to 75MPH and it's coming from the rear left side. I thinks it's the wheel bearing because I couldn't get the noise appear on a rack in a shop, so I will have to diagnose a little more before I start replacing more parts, thanks for the help everyone and hopefully these can help someone else.

Do you think that your pinout on the ecu and wiring will be pretty close to mine? I have 2001 legacy. Also how did you wire your reverse lights?
