2.5L cat. converters into a 2.2L??

I have a 95 Lsi BD and the stealership by me has 2 outback that they are parting out for the cost of pulling the part. My check engine light keeps coming on and saying my cat is bad. I want to replace both at once and if I can pick a set up cheap i'd like to do the swap. Anyone know if they are interchangable? the outbacks are a 97 and 98. THanks, TIm

How much are they charging you? I got a replacement cat shipped from www.ecatalyticconvertor.com for $200 odd, it deletes the front cat and only uses the rear one.

You can only use it on non-CARB spec cars though, you can check that by looking in the engine bay at the EPA sticker. If it says EPA only, then it's non-CARB (California).

Fitment on mine was pretty good - it came with gaskets and an O2 bung if I needed it.

thats cool.. what did you do about the front 02 sensor? Mine has an o2 sensor in both the front and rear cat? I found a place on ebay that sells new cats for 130 shipped. They emailed and said they can get both the front and rear and just to call. I think i'll go that route and keep it stock.. Thanks, Tim

It has O2 sensor mounts for the front and rear cat. I did get a CEL for the front O2 sensor, but it cleared itself. The car was just learning again.

I have front and rear O2 sensors. The only issue I had was that because the fitment wasn't 100% (more like 97%) we had to extend the front O2 wire by around 2inches.

Huffer, i can't tell, but is that a Stromung hi-flow cat?

because My cat's piping rusted through over a month ago, I ordered a stromung hi-flow cat from boxer4racing (I'm still waiting for it ) and its a 1 cat system and looks a bit like that one. I got mine for 350 bucks, its entirely bolt on.

The Subaru OEM cats are much more expensive (~1000 bucks) and since this one is a better performer, there was no contest.

Stromung? I don't think so. I bought it from the website I posted above. That's all they seem to do - catalytic convertors. The fitment wasn't 100%, but all the gaskets matched up. Only the hanger was a little iffy.
For under $200 with free shipping, I was very pleased.

I just checked and the price is now $269. Is this a 'high flow' cat? I am curious to know how the single cat. affected your legacy's performance. I have a '95 and was considering replacing some of the exhaust system.

I recently found out that after this year, I will no longer have to have EPA testing in NC (do not know if its due to the OBDII requirement or the car being over 10yrs old). Not sure if it would be worth removing the cat altogether or if I should stick with a high flow cat (i.e., I would like to avoid dealing with CEL's even if my yearly inspection no longer requires that my car be CEL free).

The replacement I purchased is not a high flow - though the car is a little more powerful (but negligibly) because of the removal of the first cat.

I have just replaced both O2 sensors in my car @ 179k.

If you do not require EPA testing then I would just go for a high-flow cat replacement. The cost would be the same, but you would get more go.
