Can I swap in a JDM BH5 gauge cluster into a BG5 Wagon? My main conserned is I think the 1999 Subaru Outback is cable driven for the speedo?

I'm pretty sure this will only work in a BE/BH. It says '98+, but I don't think that's right...
1999 Silver Legacy GT
98+ is a BE/BH in Japan.
(actually 99+)
I doubt it'll work. But heck, with enough time and money, anything can work!

Funny thing is you can find it for other cars the other way around.. Electronic to Mechanical
But not Mechanical to Electronic... All it is just a speed pulse with Magnets right?
*EDIT*
what is this cream white piece on the back of the cluster?

Exactly why do you want a BE cluster in a previous gen?

No one makes any aftermarket white numbering gauges and the guy here from what I hear no longer works at the place to cut the gauges for the older gen So plan B... But plan B is something else a lot more then just this little cluster in the works

It seems like all I need to do is buy a speed sensor from an 00 Legacy with a MT and it should work.. online it's showing as a $48 part but worth a shot..
in the meantime how do most sellers power of the cluster without being in the car? I don't know how many KM it has on it.

Wow I just got this email...
"Message from merchant: Hi,
We did a final testing on the gauge cluster, but it doesn't work. So we sent it back to Subaru to fix. I'm refunding you now; if it comes back, we'll email you.
I apologize for this, thanks for your kind understanding.
keith"
Not only that I got a refund until it comes back.
