Hi, I've read the stickies and other threads on swaps and conversions but haven't found the answer I'm looking for.
I have a '98 bk with a 2.2L and AT. I am far from satisfied as to how the engine and the shifting of the tranny perform. I understand from FAT (Forced Air Technologies) in Phoenix that from the '99 models, the OBDII was vastly improved over previous OBDII years. It was suggested that I just buy a '99 Legacy but they are not easy to come by here in Phoenix (at least for what I'm looking for).
Anyway, I've been thinking about swapping in a '99 Legacy 5MT tranny with the ecu that have come up for sale. How much wiring work will I have to do from the ecu to the tranny and other sensors? The '99 2.2L engine is also for sale--would it be advisable to swap in the engine too or would it mainly depend if the '99 engine is MAP-based?
(I would prefer the swap in a turbo engine but I know that quite extensive wiring would be required which I won't have the time (or patience) to do and that would be too expensive to have a shop do it correctly. In AZ I'll have to get the car to pass inspection and unless it's done correctly, installing a turbo engine won't pass inspection.)
Any advice and suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks!
