    The "It's winter!!"...thread

and I am still rolling on summer tires. DOH!

This was the light dusting this morning outside my apartment.
It's still falling now...crappers. The grass and pavement are completely covered with about 2". I have no idea how my summer tires are going to roll this afternoon.

You got a Suby, no worries!

We've already have 4" of snow here but it came and went. I was rolling on my summer's too and it was actually sketchy, glad I had AWD for going up hill but didn't do shit for going down hill (obviously). I'm rocking my snows now though and we have snow in higher elevations.

My guess is that the summer tires will NOT work that well...lets just say it's an educated guess.

NICE skis, I just picked up a pair of last year's 4FRNT STLs, can't wait to be able to use them. It hasn't snowed really yet in southern NH other than flurries here and there that didn't accumulate, but god damn has it been cold.

Very nice. I've always liked the looks of 4frnt's stuff but have never had a chance to ride anything.

These should be the start of my quiver, and my everyday ski. Later (over the next few years) I'll probably add a dedicated set of powder skis and some park skis.

    I'm stoked!

Woke up to a fresh coating this morning. I used to look so forward to the snow, but now I could do without it. Cooper snow tires are ready to tackle it though.

I save my pennies during the summer so that my car gets a full wash every week... under chassis, wheel wells, the works. So far it's worked pretty well.

+1 on that.. sometimes i will just go out in the driveway and freeze my ass off to wash it myself..but that only lasts till its about 0 degrees out.. then its just too cold.

I do the under carriage wash a few times during the winter, but only when it's warm enough. It sucks trying to get into your car when the doors are frozen shut.

How many people do you think do that? Its such a pain in the cold if you do it yourself. I'd rather it not snow so I don't have to.

Well when you develop your god-like power to control weather, let me know. :P

I use a machine wash - it blows the car dry too so the water doesn't freeze in the doorjams. After a particularly bad storm/salt laydown I will prewash the wheel areas with hot water + degreaser first, then roll to the carwash.

    *shrug*

I stay warm, car gets clean... win-win.

Does your machine car wash do your wheel wells.. if so.. that would be awesome.. i need one of those around here.. haha. Also the ones that do under the car.. usually suck.. its like such a weak stream.. i doubt it cleans anything.

Yeah, there's a couple around here. BP has one, usually costs $8 a time for the underbody wash. The stream that cleans under the car is actually fairly decent, I can hear it hitting the exhaust and undercarriage pretty hard. When I roll in, I go pretty slow over the jets so it gets as much coverage as possible. It's got to be better than nothing.

One other thing I did was remove the plastic shield on the fuel pipe near the rear right wheel - the lower part of that simply collects sand/dust and traps water allowing the fuel pipe to rust. I took it off, sanded the pipe and sprayed it with black undercoating. Now it won't rust out on me causing a $300 trip to the dealer.

That's exactly what I do Huffer, roll as slowly as possible. Eventually it shuts off though. Our "works" wash is $10 but is worth it in the winter time to get as much salt and shit off as possible.

This is why I live in California ...no salty roads, no ice(only if going to the
    mountains).

^ This is why we hate you.. haha just kidding.

Yeah, the 'works' here costs anywhere from $8-12.. but to get the under carriage (weak) wash done.. its the $12 one. Sometimes I'm just really cheap and i'll get the $8 wash, and then pay $2 in quarters and spray the underside myself and such.. that way.. it works out. Thats only if its above 0 degrees though.. anything else.. and its too damn cold to be doing that.
