    Re: anothernord's '97 Outback - Supercharged! 12/3/09 - Exha

I suppose I should update everyone on the status of the waggin.

She was supercharger-less for almost 3 months until last weekend, when I installed a new supercharger. The old one started blowing oil into the intake when I accidentally overfilled the reservoir and hardened the seals. I am going with a new, non-intercooler piping setup with this build iteration. Look for pictures later this week.

Anyway, now that power is taken care of, its time to do suspension.

The intercooler was making piping for the intake a pain. Now I have the filter under the hood scoop. I'll be fabricating a nice little heat-shield that mates up with the scoop splitter so it will get cold, scoop-fed air.

oh sweet! Now you actually have a functional hood scoop!
Seriously, at first I was like, why if the filter all the way back there?? It's gonna get heat soaked! lol

Also I always get a kick out of the supercharger belt, it's SO long and goes up, down, up, and around...

The hood scoop should have an intercooler under in per the Subaru standard protocol, but in my case, I had to make it functional with the filter. The real reason I put the filter there is that I needed at least a foot of piping between the outlet of the BOV and the MAF, or else I get turbulence that messes up the MAF signal. And with the way the engine bay is set up, it was easiest to just stick it where it is. I may tweak it slightly for smoother air flow and some cleaner bends.

There is soon to be more pulleys and longer belts.

Throttle body relocate done. Now I have a nice 5 psi of boost with zero turbo lag, and its much quieter. Until I hit that gas that is.

Still no intercooler, but that will change now that I have an income and free time.

^^ Thank you! I get a lot of varying opinions on the setup, and its good to hear positive ones.

In other news, I ordered some goodies...

I'm also going to up the boost pressure to overcome the pressure drop of the IC. The OBSC is about to get a little more angry...

6 PSI, FMIC, a new Cusco 24mm RSB, and an Emanage Ultimate to tune it all.

    Another AWDpirates.net meet.

As you can see, I hang out with a lot of Impreza guys. I will always consider Legacies to be cooler than the sea of Imprezas out there.

Nice FMIC, and I always seem to be around a lot of impreza's too. But now that the newer legacy's have turbos, our group in iowa has been steadily gaining legacy's!!! I'm still the only one around driving the old 95-99 style tho

Its actually an adjustable 23mm bar, with slots for 22 and 24mm. The only problem is that its for a sedan, so I had to bolt it on the inside of one endlink, and the outside of the other. And it clunks. I'm probably going to get rid of it soon.

Legacy sedans and wagons are the same, but WRX sedans are slightly wider than WRX wagons, which are the same as Legacies. I happened to get a WRX sedan RSB.

If you have a Legacy sedan, then it still won't fit, its just the WRX sedans and wagons that are different. This is my member's ride thread, the other one is the build thread for just the supercharger.

is it possible to do this on a n/a car at all? i've not started any research into the subject since my car is totaled and i'm haggling trying to get it replaced, but i'm dubious at best since i don't know what to do with the sensor.

Yeah, search around for the "Gravelsports Intake". Its basically a filter under the scoop with a pipe that goes down into the throttle body.

is it possible to do this on a n/a car at all? i've not started any research into the subject since my car is totaled and i'm haggling trying to get it replaced, but i'm dubious at best since i don't know what to do with the sensor.
Yeah, search around for the "Gravelsports Intake". Its basically a filter under the scoop with a pipe that goes down into the throttle body.
oh that is amazing :] thanks.

Did you consider a TMIC? The way you had it piped before looked like a slim TMIC from an 06 wrx or FXT or baja t would work perfectly. FMIC looks good but I don't think all that throttle lag is worth the extra cooling considering you dont have a hot turbo under the hood and its a low-boost application,

I actually used to have an 06 WRX TMIC. The reason that I got rid of is is that I physically couldn't fit an intake with the MAF sensor and filter in the engine bay. With the FMIC, there was tons of room to put the intake piping on. You're right about the lag, and its noticeable, but it doesn't bother me too much. Plus, I'm going to get a high-quality and smaller IC core, which should lower the IC pressure drop and create less of a restriction.

Maybe someday when I switch to speed-density, I'll remove the MAF and give the TMIC another try, but for now, I'm pretty happy with the setup.
