Re: TEIN FLEX on '99 Legacy Wagon (BK) Update: 21 April 2009

Car looks great man.. Just was wondering, not to be nosey, but how much did the tein coilover setup cost you? I have a 99 legacy outback wagon and i want to lower that as well. I've gone onto Tien's website and it doesnt show what to use for my car? What did you use for yours? Is it possible to get Tein coilovers for like a wrx, or sti and have it bolt up to my car?

    Thanks man..
    Any help would be appreciated...

Re: TEIN FLEX on '99 Legacy Wagon (BK) Update: 21 April 2009

No worries. Huffed is right, I put it all in the first post. : ) I used an 04 WRX Wagon/STi fitment, and I love them. I still have some fine tuning to do though. She is a little bouncy right now (more damper needed) but it is just a blast to drive, even with the 155xxx mile EJ22. If you have the money, go for it. You will be pleased. Not to mention I can get the height I want, with the grey spring rate. If you have questions, ask...... There is a good chance I made that mistake! Haha

No. And I really question why you think you need coilovers if you don't know what a strut bar/brace is...

Well I'm actually researching these items via this forum hence the reason I also join... Interestingly I jus want my ride to have that aggressive look as well as having better handling whilst driving!.....

Not really into the technical stuff which seem to me a must with these things

Re: TEIN FLEX on '99 Legacy Wagon (BK) Update: 21 April 2009

Coilovers are not for everyone. They are typically a MUCH firmer suspension and while you do gain a massive amount of adjustability and the potential for having much better handling, you can trade off a lot in comfort.

I'm not racing my car, so I'm going with replacement struts and lowered springs. My setup is also half the cost of a good set of coilovers.

Ok... I'm not racing my ride either.... Funny I was looking at the same setup lastnight after replying to ur post.... the issue is I can't seem to find any for my right.... Most drivers of the 96 Legacy seem to use WRX stuff... My model is Legacy GL not sure if the same can be used... Chassis # begin with JF1.... Lookin for suggestion.

By the way could I use back my existing struts....with lowering springs

Re: TEIN FLEX on '99 Legacy Wagon (BK) Update: 21 April 2009

You have a BD chassis. This means you can effectively use an Impreza suspension from 94-07 with a little finicking. You will have to swap out rear top-hats on 02-03 WRX suspension to make them work.

You can buy replacement struts and springs that will lower your car.
    Struts: KYB, Bilstein
Springs: H&R, iON, RS*R, Whiteline, King Springs (all these still available).

There is a group buy on iON springs right now if you are interested.

Looks towards the end of the VIN. It'll say BD5 or BD6...something like that.

When he says finicking he means it'll take a little work to get the suspension to fit just right.

If you order iON "BD" chassis lowering springs you can use them on your existing struts.
