Found an EA82 Turbo in the junkyard...

Would this be of any use to me if I was to undertake the project of turbocharging my 2.2l '95 Legacy? I could probably get the turbo bits fairly cheap, as the junkyard owner is a friend of a friend. It looks to be 100% complete and in wonderful shape. I don't know much about the car, but here are a couple of pictures of it.

enh, the EJ22 isn't really meant to be turbocharged without fuel delivery modifications and ECU mods...not worth it, IMO.

I say, if you can get all the turbo bits for something like $40 or less, its worth it. Worth it simply because the parts will be there in case you want to do something with them, and you got them cheap. Not only that, but its been discussed that NA legacy's can't take a whole lot of boost, so the low boost engine there, might have the right components for the job.

I say buy the whole GL and play with that. I really want a 88 or 89 RX turbo right now, thats my newest toy I'm looking to find.

Well what kind of specific turbocharging plans do you have? If you're planning on using the stock EJ22 heads you might want to check if they have single or dual-port exhaust ports. If they are single, you might be able (and want) to use the header off of the EA82 if it fits, because there really aren't any other headers that will bolt up to the single-port exhaust ports as far as I know.

My car is dual-port. If I go FI with the EJ22E that is in the car, I will use the stock heads for now. I don't plan on making big power... I was just considering this because A) the price could be right and B) it would make the car a bit more fun. I understand that this isn't going to be a direct bolt-on, but I thought that using OE Subaru parts may make the job a bit simpler. I'm not new to turbocharging, and I know that it will take a bit more than a UP/DP and turbo to make this work, but I wanted people's opinions on whether or not it would be worth it to pick up pieces from this specific car, or if I should hold out for something different.

You might be able to use the turbo.... and that'd really be it.

The EA82 doesn't really have any parts that would be worth it to you. You COULD use the bits from a WRX.

You'd be better off to swap like XCNTRCK75, and a few others have done.

That turbo isnt going to be worth the trouble. Just hold out and use parts more in line with what the end product you want

Anyone have the compressor maps for the EA82 Turbo? What kind of turbo was that thing, anyways?
