You mean just simply unbolt them at the top and switch them from one side to the other?

How exactly does this swap work without having the camber plates out of spec>

No matter the orientation from left to right you still need to rotate the hat 180 degrees which will still cause the plate to be out of spec camber/caster instead of just camber.

The correct method is to buy coilovers for a GD and swap the front plates with GC fitment .

If I am mistaken please let me know

    -Chuck

So you are saying that I would need to buy the 02-07 wrx coilovers and then swap the upper mounts for an older wrx on to the coils?

Excuse my shitty crude drawing, it's all I have to work with where I'm at right now.

by removing one side and putting it directly onto the other side you are rotating it 180, I've never ran coilovers personally, I'm repeating I read a while back on another site. Guy had pictures of gd coils on a bd with proper camber adjustments.

Re: The Official Coilover/Strut swap fitment guide!

So I am looking at buying either the Rokkor or Raceland coils. Neither have camber adjustment on the rears. So that means I just have to unbolt the front mounts and swap them L to R correct?

Posting info that you have never attempted and "read" from another write up is so dangerous these days.. People will take what you post to heart..

I ask again how would this work

Considering that 100000's of Legacy owners have asked this question with the same answer "swap to GC plate"

This is getting me nowhere. Too many different answers. It's not like I can order some coilovers for a gd and tell them to put gc upper mounts on them. I think I am more confused than when I started.

There is no confusion. You have the right info. Find your local BC Racing Supplier and they should be able to mix n match for you. Other wise bite the bullet like everyone else and buy GD coils and get GC front top hats if you want correct camber specs

Re: The Official Coilover/Strut swap fitment guide!

Don't get me wrong I am greatly appreciative for the info. Truthfully I have learned a lot from this site in the short term I have been a member and got my car. I just want to be sure before I let go of the money. This is just my daily driver so I don't want to drop the cash for the BC coils. I am just looking for something to make the car my fun and enjoyable to drive, not track it. Are the strut bars the same between the WRX and the Legacy?

Ok been searching and believe this to fit but need to know before I waste money.

My car. 1995 BK WRX 205/55/16

Re: The Official Coilover/Strut swap fitment guide!

I just read that the stock springs on the BK wagon are 190lbs
Stock wrx sedan is 116 isthat right?
and the mach 5 is 116-156...

That seems like a problem no?

    Edit:
I did see a member here used wrx full swap front but legacy coils and tops on wrx struts in the rear. This was on an BG outback and I'm assuming it had body lift still because it looks higher than my car now. However I'd like to see if anyone has tried this on their bk. The mach V lowering springs are out of the question.

Is there benefit to the wrx struts over the legacy struts?

Re: The Official Coilover/Strut swap fitment guide!

I keep confusing myself the more pages I decide to go through. Not looking to do too many conversions, looking for a temp set up until I can get what I'd prefer for long term, does anyone know if any of these Raceland's would fit on a BL (2007) 2.5i? http://www.racelandus.com/coilovers/sub ... -kits.html any info is much appreciated!

okay ive been wondering this for a while and idk if its on the boards, not to sure.

I have an 05 Leggo sedan. trying to raise it. really want to put it on forrester springs to give it a little bit of a lift. not looking for anything crazy. what I really want to have is pretty much the same set up as the old SUS suspension system they had for the legacys. but really im CLUELESS as to what is the best, most cost effective way to get this done. I read before that if I just get the forrester springs, id be good for a 2" lift but I cant remember if that was for my old BD or this one. so please... HALP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reviving this old thread. It may be more relevant soon as some of these cars are able to be imported into the US now. For example, I now own a RHD JDM 1996 Subaru Legacy GT-B wagon in mint condition. The main problem I had with it was that the right-rear strut was seized. The struts are still available to buy new but they're almost $600 ea. before shipping from Japan. I wanted to maintain as close to factory comfort as possible so here's what worked for me.

Struts: KYB EXCEL-G/GR-2 2004-2007 **WAGON ONLY**
Springs: King Springs 2004-2007 Impreza Standard Height

This maintained the correct height of the rear with no sag and no spacers needed. I went from yellow struts with black springs to black struts with yellow springs.

Aside from the struts and springs I used OEM parts for the rest.

    20320AA113 STRUT MOUNT F
    20321AA201 HELPER F PAI22
    20322AE01A DUST COVER F
    20323FA000 SPRING SEAT UP
    20325FA000 RUBBER SEAT UP
    20326AA000 SPACER STRUT F
    20326AA120 DUST SEAL STRU
    20327AC000 CAP
    20371AA041 HELPER R PAI22
    20372FE010 DUST COVER R S
    20375FC001 RUBBER SEAT R
    20390FE010 MOUNT STRUT R

So basically an entirely fresh, new setup for each corner. Did an alignment afterwards. Maxed out the front camber adjustment so some more adjustable bolts may be necessary. It's not too far out though. Since we don't have any of these cars in the US I used the specs for a 98-99 USDM Legacy GT Wagon.
