I dont think i have seen this posted very often and im sure plenty of you know about this. I was actually looking through the classifieds and saw seat belts for sale.
Well i had heard from a friend that Subaru has a 'free lifetime seat belt replacement' policy.
I called a local Roseville (nor cal) Subaru dealer and they told me it was true. So dont spend money and buy used seat belts, check with your dealer first.
Hope this is true for everyone and the dealer didnt lie to me. Good luck

Did you get the exact details of the seatbelt replacement policy? Because I checked this before and the dealer denied it.

i know some dealers have this but it only for defects in the belt. (tensioner broke, retractor broke, ect) because its a "liability issue". if you dog chew its up, friad, ect. thats your fault

Actually, if your belt is frayed they will replace it for free. I know this firsthand, however when I took my car there they took two days then called me to say they stripped a seat belt bolt. I told them to put my car outside immediately and I would pick it up. If the nitwits can't change a seat belt (ive had the seats and belts in and out of the car multiple times, I KNOW ITS EASY) then I don't want them touching my car.

Oh darn, I've just replaced my driver's seat belt not too long ago
Yeah im gonna have to give the dealer another call cause my driver belt is frayed and i hope they will replace it. I didnt tell them it was frayed before. I also hope they can order it and let me install it so they dont screw it up.

Hrm. I'll have to bring this up when I take the wagon in for the open recall it has on the brake booster
WAS planning on just swapping the sedan's driver's belt since it's LESS frayed then the one that's in there now.

They wont do this, I tried. And then when they messed up I just took my car back without the new belt.

My driver's belt was frayed to hell and they replaced it for free. The part brand new costs over $300. The techs were awesome about it too.

in the warranty handbook (i belive) on my 1998 legacy outback it does day that the seat belt has a lifetime warranty (limited). have had 3 seat belts replaced under warranty. 2 on a 99 sus and 1 on my legacy ob, all by the same dealer, gave me no greif the last on they actuailly had instock. 2 of the seat belts were frayed and one would not retract properly, the dealership checked it out and fixed free of charge, i think you have to have a clean title.

I must not be doing this right because I got quoted 300+ bucks for seat belts and about 90 to 100 bucks for labor. What should I do? Should I just show up at a dealership and ask them about this? If seat belts CAN be replaced free, I don't want to pay for used belts.

I have a 94 legacy l sedan, the automatic seatbelt is broken and wont retract, and wont pass inspection, but I cant find anyone that even has the parts to replace it. Will the lifetime replacement apply to my situation?

I would say go to your local dealer and ask, there are a lot of yes and no situations about this topic. It seams to depend on the dealer so maybe try more than one. Good luck!!

i took mine in the other day and the service manager told me that its only on the mechanical parts. but i told him i herd different and to he call up subaru and they told him i was right!! so im getting mine replaced. he said that the belt will be black, but my other belts are grey so maybe i can get some wrx belt and put them in.
Dammit. I keep forgetting to call!

the retracting part of the auto seatbelt is covered but the strap that is motorized is NOT covered

So I have some pretty badly ripped seatbelts. I'm already planning on getting new seats or reupholstering my current seats black and blue, so I'm thinking about just completley replacing the seatbelts. Where can I find black seatbelts for all 5 seats that won't break the bank (i'm tight on money) and that I can install myself?
Dealership might replace it for free, it's covered under a lifetime warranty.

Ohh, didn't know we got lifetime warranty on this, I'm going to the Subaru dealer and look into this. My front seat belts are pretty warn/ripped. Thanks for the tip guys.

Just got mine replaced on Friday. Rolled into the dealer, told them Subaru offered a lifetime warranty on the seatbelts, they inspected the belt, said "ok", put my car into the system, checked the part#, checked with SOA via computer, booked me in and fixed it once the part came in.
Mine couldn't retract/extend anymore because the fraying was bad.

Thanks a lot for posting this! After reading I took a drive to my Subaru dealer, as I have 2 frayed belts (driver and pass rear)...
He looked at them I he didnt know if they would do the warranty, but he would check and I got a call from him today and they have the 2 on order and should be here in the next few days! YAY!!! New belts in my Subie!!!
