Why would you ditch your perfectly good JDM bumper? You should be so lucky to have an AUDM model that came factory with the jap style bumper, A bumper that the guys on these forums spend much time tracking down and putting on their cars.

Doesn't make much sense to me. Guess it's the whole 'wanna be different' thing. Would def be a talking point though, for sure.

I find the JDM bar to be much more attractive as well. The US one protrudes outwards quite a bit more and all the vertical slats in the lower portion of the grill make me think of someone showing off their teeth. It's also not as attractive if you need to post a license plate. To each their own, but I think it's a downgrade in style. You will also need to find a taller grill to fill the gap between it and the bumper as well as the bumper beam.

yeah it's all about trying to have a point of difference i guess. everyone here has the jdm/audm or the gtb limited bars so want to try and make it a bit different from the crowd.

also i never ever said anything about ditching bars (i've also got 2 more spare JDM bars stashed at work for a rainy day ), i'd just try and track down a usdm bar as another alternative i could swap around if i wanted. i'd remove the vertical supports before using it too. i may have tracked down a slightly rarer aftermarket jdm bar now anyway so in no rush to get the US bar, it was just idea. thanks for the feedback though

Considering there are about 4 of us with limited bars and 2 or 3 with standard GTB or RX bars as we call them the US bar is quite exotic, as funny as that may sound

Re: aekOne's 1998 Gen 2 Subaru Liberty Heritage - Australia

Grass is always greener on the other side.

I have a wee confession, I actually quite like the US front bar too, they are just that much more aggressive, has to be the only time US stuff is actually an improvement.. I'd never ditch a jdm style bar for one, but if I was starting with a low speccer, I'd def consider it.

I also prefer the USDM BD boot lid, they look more like a BG tailgate, with the big recess, unlike the relatively flat and boring JDM one. Again, only the second gens have this honour. First gen, 3rd and 4th gen US stuff looks so fucking bland next to JDM.

hi guys, so a bit of an update on my front bar search. i ended up finding a jdm hipposleek bar at a wreckers out here that i picked up for a song. it needed a fair bit of work to get it up to scratch but in the end scrubbed up pretty nicely. its a little more aggressive than i'd anticipated but i think i can dig it.

also did some stuff under the hood, changed headers and up-pipe, new dump, VF22 (replaced the eBay spec TD05 i had which was garbage), added twin catch cans and custom airbox, new stereo and Defi gauges and a bunch of tidy up things. still got a lot more work in the engine bay to get it where i want it but starting to make progress now.

It's off for a tune tomorrow so fingers crossed it goes well!

so tune is done. Spent almost 8hrs with Adam from JEM today running over the entire car. theres lots to tidy up still but overall shes in good shape and ready to cruise.

Ended up making 210kw at 20psi on what Adam calls "safe to thrash all day" tune. He reckons if i wanted to push it to the limit we could probably get almost 230kw but the turbo would have well and truly been on the ragged edge of efficiency. It drives amazingly so i'm really happy with the result.

Nice numbers. I dig that Hipposleek front bar. Your car is beautiful and must be a riot to drive.

Now that front bumper looks sexy! Your car is looking shape. Keep it up!

As for the USDM one, I'm not a fan at all. Even the base model Legacy in 98-99 got the same as the GT. I do find it a steep over the early one, but the Outback is more my style then the GT one. That being said, I absolutely love my JDM Limited! Most aggressive factory OEM bumper made for a Legacy. But as has been said, the grass is always greener.

thanks man, its grown on me a lot and am really happy with it now.

as you say mate, i was really only after one of the USDM bars as it was something different but i think i've found different now anyway

every second gen out here has the GTB or Limited bar so always on the look out for something different from the rest!

So.. after a few years gathering spiders and leaves in the carpark at work, i finally fixed up a few things that need fixing and have her registered again. its all above board this time too with it registered as a turbo with the engine swap and manual conversion. an unmarked police car pulled me over literally on the way home from having it registered and apart from a comment about it being a bit loud send me on my way after a alcohol breathe test. happy days!
