So, long story short, blew my interior lights. 10a ILLUMI fuse keeps blowing, no idea why. Thought it was my illumination module after searching around. Read a bunch of threads that said it was common, so I ran with it. Finally got my hands on a better wiring diagram, traced the power and remembered people saying things about the illumination wire for head units being the culprit. After looking at the FSM and the fuse, I decided to pull out my head unit that I had installed a few months before the problem started.

Here's what I found:



That's right, you guessed it, it's the familiar orange illumination wire from the Metra harness I used when I installed the radio.



If you notice in the first picture, the end looks ragged/torn. Can't tell if I had it connected or not, taped off farther down and it broke, no idea. Either way, to test it, I checked for voltage:



Yup, drawing full battery voltage. To check further, I touched it to a screw, and the 10a fuse blew. There's your culprit.

My guess is that (and from hearing other places) is that the harness is kinda generic, and so the illumination wire is not used on Japanese cars. I've never used it, because I've only ever done HU installs in my own Jap cars. I never thought to check the wire though, never dawned on me. Since we get our illumination from somewhere else, I never bothered.

Wrapped the wire in shrink wrap and tucked everything back together. So far, so good.

What sucks is that I thought the modules were bad, so now I have at least 2 that I know of.
