    Weird rubbing sound while turning.

Earlier this evening out of no where my car was making a weird rubbing noise while turning to the left but when done I'm pretty sure I'm hearing it come from the front right of my car. Could someone give me any ideas of what this could be? I did do a U turn kind of weird and then was driving for a minute or two before the noise started. Could this be an indication of something needing to be replaced or something that could be lose that could just be put back in place.

Check your tie rods and ball joints... I think that sounds a little similar to what I had going on. I had a bad tie rod (inner and outer), bad ball joint, missing sway bar link, and (allegedly it was all caused by) a bad bearing.

I think so. The mechanic told me the bearing is probably what caused the tie rods and ball joint to fail. At the end (before the tow truck and mechanic visit) I could not turn around corners unless I coasted or the shaking became very bad. So.. if that is what it is, get it checked out sooner than later so you can avoid more expensive repairs.

Re: Weird rubbing sound while turning.

Damn this sort of makes me mad because way earlier this year I had an alignment done on my car and after test driving it he said my car still went to the right on its own so he checked that wheel and I was there watching him and he brought up it being the hub barring so I was like okay but then I told some car friends about it and they were like "nah its probably not that, they are probably trying to just get more cash out of you" I believed it was the hub for a little while until I noticed that two other people i know that went there to get stuff checked on there car's were getting mixed results with there situations thus turning the idea to where that places isn't that great at what they do yet. What also helped that idea is that they have four mechanics but there's only one master tech, the other three can only do miner stuff and also everyone who works there is pretty young but now I highly regret not getting it done. I also believe your idea about it because awhile back I was realigning my car myself but noticed every time Id put it back on the alignment rack it always showed that my front was off the specs i set it two.

So far all it does is make a the rubbing noise, it doesn't vibrate or shake or anything but its load and embarrassing.

The sound almost sounds like rubber rubbing together.

How can you tell if the tie rods are bad if they show no sign of having any bends or anything like that.

Well, the only test I really know of is to jack the wheel off the ground (be careful, as the recent accident thread says)... put one hand on either side of the wheel and gently push it back and forth (left hand towards, right hand away, then reverse). If it does that I think that one is the tie rods and if you get play with a hand on top and bottom, then that would be the ball joint. I'm sure someone will correct me if it is the opposite (I had both issues, the tie rod and the ball joint).

I'm just hoping its at least the hub or if anything the hub and ball joint. This wouldn't be such a big deal to me if I had the cash to just go and get it fixed like nothing. :T

It seemed to have a little play when checked it just now but not alot, I still wish someone was with me so they could of looked under at it while I moved it. I checked the other side for the hell of it and it seemed to have some play to but no noise or anything from that side, I just still get the rubbing noise coming from the right side.

Great news. I took my car to a shop that I somewhat trust and they checked it and It turns out its actually something going on with my coilover on the front right side of my car.

You need like a thrust bearing for it

Don't think it's the coilover but theres a chance it is. It does sound like metal rubbing kind of actually. Going to rotate my tires get the, balanced and aligne the front because I noticed the other day the enter part of the front tires are balled but it's only in the front.

Re: Weird rubbing sound while turning.

When this happened to me, it was because of a bad rear hub bearing. It was so bad that my entire hub assembly had to be replaced.

it's Tie rod ends. Jack it up, hand on either side, wiggle...that's the tie rod wear. Should be tight. Any play and Tie rod needs service, or adjustment. Hands on top/bottom, wiggle, that's wheel bearing. Any play, replace. these cars are not easy to diagnose bearings unless you really know what your Looking for. Any play that way or grinding sound during stable speed or deceleration, replace bearing. With tire jacked up take a tire iron and slide under wheel, lift up. That's ball joint. U only have a lower. Any excessive play or knocking, replace immediately.
