Much appreciated edit. Yeah, it's hard to say how long your motor will last. The head gaskets blew on mine, and I drove it about 40k HARD miles with warped heads, scorched pistons and walls, crankwalk, etc. I overheated it hardcore about 20 times, but as long as I filled it up with fluids and ran thermostat-less (not recommended for a good motor) I was golden. These are tough little suckers.
My bad motor never died - but did I swap in a newer engine eventually.
WESTcoast
02-10-2010, 07:12 PM
Yeah I know it is but it starts up everytime for my 80mile commute everyday so I have faith in it. (knocks on plastic woodgrain trim in car lol) Danngg your car has been through alot! Its like our engines just wont die!! everyone in the subaru car club i belong to swears i can drive that engine forever hahaha. As much as I would like to believe them im just going to give it untill 200,000 and swap that motor then.
I am also thinking of upgrading the radiator to somthing a little more beefy but thats in due time haha

Well today headed up to my local subaru dealership and went in to order some windshield wiper plugs, I was pleasently surpised when the guy asked if i wanted a freee oil change and from a dealership i couldnt pass up the offer, mainly the guy was interested in seeing my sway bar and how i got it in, so instead of me taking pics of my undercarrige for you i went out and test drove a 05 lgt that they had on the lot. FUN is all i can say. Plus I got my plugs half price!!!
working on another D.I.Y for restoring your rusted wiper blades!

Haha I belong to two car clubs out here, one is J_Status and the other is Def Sik (definitly Sick), were mainly a bunch of great friends who love our cars, hang, bbq and the cool thing we all met through our cars! There are alot of meets that happen out here in the bay area. About 10 meets happen out here during one whole week arond the bay area.
You should start your own meet around your area! just get a whole bunch of people to go with you and soon you will gain supporters!

Oh I see New York attitude over there??? hahaha jk jk, i never been to the east coast but definitly would like to! You can always start off small couple of friends and then try to open it and see what happens. At our Def Sik meets in the summer we had stupid 5.0 mustangs come and do burnouts and basicly make us have to more to other locations to avoid them. They havent been comming in the winter rains, but as of now we are looking for another meeting place. So bascily there will be haters everywhere you go haha.

my whiteline line rear 24 is meant for a impreza but theoreticly doesnt fit out legacys due to our wheel well. I took matters in my own hands(and a hammer) and forced fitted it. Its a ruff ride when its on the hard setting but give me incredible handling unline anything i ever driven before, but as of now im on the soft setting which is pretty comfortable.
22 is pretty good, if you can go adjustable look for them used(to find them cheaper) but I say adjustable so that you have want the stiffness when you really want it, and for DD purposes keep it on soft.

sanded down and repainted my windshield wipers, and belt covers last week, this week was the test of indurance, as I drove a good 1500 miles to break in the belt cover paint(see how its holding up) and this week was off and on rain and so far the two coats of paint and the wiper arms seem to be holding up. When it gets warmer i plan to go back over them. Working on a DIY for that as well.
This morning the subaru dealership called me up and surprised me with Subaru goodness, not much but I was pissed pants happy when I got there haha

Correct!! haha I didnt have any on my car, i ended up replaceing the bolts as they were rusty and getting those caps for a buck at the dealership! probally the cheapest thing ill ever buy from them hahaha. But they do complete the look of my front bezel, used black to black on the vynl parts, sanded and painted windshield wipers and the caps to with the cherry on top! hehe

Here is a video I took the other night of the suspension in action, freshly tuned in, with the rear sway set to the middle position i wish i put it on the hard setting but havent tried the medium setting yet. This is my main road and I usualy push it hard, but my tires are on thier last stand and plus my friend is in the drivers seat who is 300lbs +!! So the car wasnt acting like it was with just me in it. And sorry about the camera work, didnt have the mount with me.
But enjoy

what kinda struts were you running with them. My friend who I snagged them off of was using his stock struts yet his car drove extremely smooth. I know that with them on I am not going to feel velety smooth but Im curious to see how they perform for myself. Hey it they were basicly free! I am just going to take them off of the oem struts up them on my gr2s ride with them for a month and call a verdict if I go back to my ebanhi's. oh newb question for you, whats the rear diff locking bolt for?
It locks up the rear diff to the frame so that when your under alot of tourque the diff isnt moving/twisting. keeps it level and the movement to pretyt much none. Dont worry I guess you can call me a newb to it too i just recently found out about it and then found it for sale hahaha

I had a whiteline 24mm adjustable before this and it was awesome, my car literally was on rails, when i had it on the 24mm setting
This one feels the same way, well i havent tested out the new suspension as i need tires, but im firguing it will react the same yet better and stiffer due to the other upgrades

05-14-2010, 12:00 PM
Hey!
I had Fuzion HRI tires on my BE(205/55/16"). Replaced them before winter started with dedicated winter tires.
They are made by Bridgestone If remember correctly. The Fuzions were a little loud, and when get used up they started hydroplaning at high speeds for me (be careful).
BUT on the plus side they are asymetrical tire specifically designed for AWD vehicles. Handle not bad in snow.
After hitting some biggish pot holes the wall on 1 of mine showed a bump, which sounded horrible.
I have 3 used ones still in my garage if you want spares will sell for cheap.
Enjoy

05-14-2010, 12:34 PM
They have been adequate for the price for me so far. Dry grip: good, wet grip: ok. More tire squirm than the ze912s I used to have. Let's not thread-jack WESTcoasts ride journal though.

Its all good guys thread jack away, I acually got these tires for pretty cheap, totally price came to be around FREEE!!!! haha, my friend had given me his wrx rims with these tires on them, i had them unmounted and remounted to my snowflakes. So far they are excellent tires but I haven't pushed my car hard in a good while. I would say that they are really really iffy in the rain when taking sharp corners but other than that they are ok.
I still trying to make up my mind about what new rims I want. I been on this decision for soo long and everytime i need new tires, I keep saying new rims and then become undeciive then i just give in and buy antoher set of tires haha

I'd say 18's are too big. It'll look donk. Mine's getting slammed on 16's on 205/45 16's and even I need to roll fenders. My stock tires now rub. But mostly on the fender liner. I personally wouldn't want to try and fit 18's. 17s are nice though, with the right sized tire. Regardless of rubbing, I'd say 17's look much better than 18's. Our Subarus have fairly small wheel wells.

yeah 18s are a little to big, but i like to try before i buy i might borrow my firends and try it on to see how it looks, I always been a fan of 17's as when i use my car, it iwll be used and not for show haha. I know EXACTLY what you're talking about!!! lol, you really feel every little bump in the road, but the springs still have a ton of flex and compression. It's weird to describe. Just watch out for the big bumps! Those are a painful, and the only reason why I want to raise my car back up.
but...
Maybe you going for stance/drop is like coilovers, and the handling is like regular springs?
I think that's pretty much spot on too.

I really wanted it to put them on for the stance and to see what everyone was fussing about, I mean they are livable you just got to get use to them. I hit up the twistys adn the car handled well beyond what I thought it would feel like. Although I am watching out when I see pot holes and bumps, I have to go sideways a bit to get over speed bumps without scratching my bumper, but ehh my front bumper needs to be resprayed anyway.
Going on a photshoot with some friends from Canibeat.com yay

08-13-2010, 11:22 AM
the entering sideways and feeling every single little bump things got old quick for me. the drop looks good, i loved how my car looked when i had the s-techs on and you car also looks great, but the harshness on any kind of imperfection on the road combined with mushiness in the turns (my stock '05 STi springs feel the same and even slightly stiffer in the) really put me off. oh, and the whole scraping the bumper everywhere thing too :|
anyway, car is looking great! have any plans to get jdm headlights and fogs?

my front is shit, my car was in an accident from the last owner and the front bumper was poorly redone and then me and my drunken yellow fogs(you can see yellow overspray on the bumper and then the bottom is all scratched up. So any lip I'll put it on and then have it repainted when the bumper is done.
I also been looking at those integra lips that people have been putting on legacys, like the mugen one and the type R one. haha I cant wait for my next pay check!

Yeah getting my alignment right when i get my paycheck this week and I will ask them to max out my lil camber bolts haha, so far I tried to eye it and I have one tire with noticeable neg camber and one that looks like positive sometimes and negative sometimes so ehhh.
I'm not really a tint person but I will probably go like factory % tint in the rear and passenger. Living in the great state of California, I'm trying not to give the police a reason to pull me over lol

Picked up the car at around 140,xxx and around 160,xxx I found out I had a misfire going on in the 4th cylinder. Had it throughly checked my the subaru dealership and they said I have a burnt piston, in which instead of making 150lbs of compression im making 32lbs of compression in the cylinder. They told me to scrap it, and buy another one as it would be a grand for them to fix it or 500 for a shop to fix it. But the main thing they told me was to stop driving it, has I could have a wrongful dedination in the cylinder and blow the engine completely.
That's how I blew my engine last week :smt009

SPACERS SPACERS SPACERS! I got my hands on a set of 25mm hubcentric spacers from cusco for free! then a pair of 10mm spacers for free as well from a friend. I tried them on and if i had a different tire size with the such as 205 or 215 it would give it the right look to what I would like. I dont have pic's of the 10's on but they fit just right flush enough for me so I am going to find another pair and then have those on.

Search for v-limited on ebay for an 04-05 Impreza. There are a bunch of replicas out there- get a polyurethane one or you'll destroy it instantly. The 06/07 follows the lines of that bumper more and wouldn't look right on a Legacy (at least IMO).

sweet thanks. One more question, what spacer would go good with stock snowflakes... I saw your aggressive look with the spacer you have, and it looked amazing. SO i want to get some for my stock wheels?
WESTcoast
09-14-2010, 03:14 PM
Yeah the 04-05 one fit well with the car, since i picked it up for cheap I'm going to get another one maybe play around with it and see if i can come up with somthing as I have a broken type R lip from my friends integra and my v limited lets see what kind of monster i can make with bondo! lol
I was using 25mm hubcentric spacers these will make your snowflakes flush, as you can see for me it was a little tooo much and i ended giving them to my friend with a buyeye for his edm wrx rims. Spacers arent cheep my friend and thier hard to find hubcentric and 5x100 in some cases. If your a fan of the mesh looking pattern you can find some lina corsa (might of spelled it wrong) by rota or the real deal BBS LMs (yummmm) then you can go low offset and wideeeeee!

10-03-2010, 01:29 PM
I'm personally not a fan of painted lips, especially when you're slammed or it's not an exact fitment. Hides scratches, chips, etc, a lot better when it's black/unfinished. A bright color like white calls attention to gaps, etc, and the double-lip effect on your bumper is more noticable when it's the same color.
But, it's not my car - that's the great part about modifying, everyone likes different stuff. If you can get it pulled up on the corners to remove that gap I think it'll look cleaner and be less likely to get pulled off when you scrape it on stuff.
Navi271
10-03-2010, 02:14 PM
I think it looks awkward for everyone cause there already is that pseudo factory front lip on that bumper. It just looks a little funny with 2 front lips. Maybe if you could mold it to the stock lip, and create one MASSIVE BUMPER LIP! haha
Is that gap between the left side headlight and the bumper from that thing you hit?!
WESTcoast
10-04-2010, 03:52 PM
yeah you guys are all right in a way, paitned lips do show mistakes and gaps but funny thing is right now there are only 4 screws holding this baby in place, I ran out.... lol
it does kinda look wierd but it looks a little better in person in my opinion Several ppl said that after showing them pictures they were like ehhh, but then seeing it up close they were a like it alot more. those gaps that you see will be taken out as I need to finish adding in more screws haha I will ride around for with it a bit and get my 20 dollars worth hahaha or untill it cracks and falls off lol.
My car has been in an accident (previous owner) and they half ass fixed the repair so that saggy bumper has always done that
BTW thanks everyone for your freedback gives me some good constructive crtizisim to work off of, I know the gaps are first to be eliminated, but Im going to look for a better way to makes it look natural haha

Dont worry I didnt get rid of it its sitting in my room :) If anything I want to find a trunk wing i know there is one for the BE/BH models where pretty much goes off the truck and looks sick, but as for now no wing is a nice wing
hahah no its an auto hahaha hella random lol
Yeah its fun to drive none the less plus it breaks necks everywhere it goes

Last night the worst could that could ever happen to me happened.......I understeered into a really high sidewalk curb on the first rain of the season, messing up my front end and driver side, the wheel is pushed back, control arm bent, steering rack thing bent and pushed, fender is messed, and other cosmetic stuff. The frame is no doubt bent to. It will cost around 1-2grand to fix and I was just about to buy my engine next week, looks like This car is going to stay down. All you legacy guys should know how I feel its like my car was everything, girls went and came but my car was there always. At the moment I dont know what I should do, I sorta want to find another bd and carry on the legacy, or a forester, or even an outback. Funds arent in the right place at the moment so I really just want something that can get me to work and back.
Here is the picture I took of the milage when the accident happen When I go see the car i will take damage shots
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2010/10/cf578a08-1.jpg
and these shots were from ealier that day at lake berryessa, car handled great up and down the mountain, lucked out on understeering into a sidewalk and not into a mountainside at berryessa

As for the leggy I plan to visit her tomorrow with some tools and see if i cant take a look at the full damage. Tomorrow's toolbox will include, socket set, hammer, and a tissue box

Thanks everyone I appreciate it, still at this moment I looking for another car, finding legacy's but they have problems with them. And the ones that dont have problems and are in good condition will need me to take a loan out on them. But I am looking at this gem, silver 99 lgt 5spd with 77k. Great right dealer wants 5500 bad right? My friend does business with the owner all the time and he will be talking to him about the car for me see if they cant strike a deal, probably not but i like to be hopeful

Thanks Dude, I took a look at it today and its pretty banged up :( sway bar bent, broken, endlinks, bent control arm, bent rack and pinion thing, fender is done, front bumper can be pushed back down, frame has been bent bad, rims are barely curb rashed!!!!!! yay!
I had the thought of parting out, and I might make a feeler thread to get an idea on who would want to buy what, seats, sway, endlinks, sti lateral links, diff mount, projectors, hid's, 05 wrx seats, harness bar (just came in the mail yesterday), catback exhaust, etc and the list goes on.

but i wanna finish it, i hate not finishing projects haha
haha my part list isnt even fully updated, and i still have parts sitting in my garage waiting to go on! I will keep you all posted as to what I will do with the car, at this time she sits till further notice.
Speaking of sitting, I had it parked on my friends street and of course yesterday morning a cop rolled by, saw my expired tags (by 1 WEEK!!!!) and decided to help me keep spending money on my car by slapping a FAT 300 DOLLAR ticket on the windshield! Great right!?!? So im handling both that and the placement of the car, right now i moved it onto my friends property so no more tickets cant occur her. Here are some pics of the damage Doesnt look that bad from the pictures but its pretty bad, the hanger for the control arm is bent badly.

I messaged the guy about the rack and pintion problem, he said
"little play in the steering and sometimes, mostly at more than 40mph it vibrates once in a while when turning. One mech said just needs alignment but other recommended a new rack and pinion and he quoted 750. That why I reduced price. I was going to change it myself, but I don't have time, parts about 330$"
is the rack and pinon stuff hard to replace? can i steal some parts from my car (or worth it) could be wheel bearing from one friend, what do you guys think?
Good about the car,

Head gaskets have been replaced,
timing belt and water pump have been done 40k ago

Sorry to "read" about your car, but if you get a few friends together and are capable of doing a motor swap.....Get a trailer and go get this:
http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/2012930807.html
Offer him $500-$700 tops. You might end up swapping your motor into the other wagon, so you might as well save some money on the receiving chassis.... just a thought.

Im going to save up and get an 05+ lgt, or save up and buy a low milage BD and do a wrx swap on it, most likely the newer the lgt and maybe later down the line pick up an BD. So I am going to part out, I started to make a list of all thats on my car and will make a thread.
My friend snowagent on here gets first pick of anything on the car, cuz he local and because he helped me out alot, but he has a wagon so alot of my suspension stuff wont work, will have it up by next week

sorry everyone for getting your hopes up, its not that bad, just everything is bent! hahaha, so new axle, new rack and pinion stuff, new control arms, and i said why not, new whiteline endlinks, new whiteline bushin mounts, going 4 pots wrx brakes, and coilovers.
Didnt sell anything, well sold my trunk brace and my harness bar and harness, but i can buy those anytime. My car is home instead of sitting 40miles away in a friends driveway, at the time i was on the edge of giving up on my car, and i was about a signature away from buying an 08 lgt then backed out, then came close to buying a 05lgt and back out again, i just kept thinking about all the things and times my car has been there for me, call it love but hell i my car been there through 40k on with a misfire, 3 ex's, 2 years of college, and numerous times of saving my ass(thank you awd).
So to give back to my subaru, im repairing, and not caring about price, and to give you guys a hint, im in talks about buying a wrx engine.
I will keep you guys posted on work being done, the rainy season has started off in cali and my subie sits in car port with her cover on here is her on her maiden voyage home (never got got to see my car from a 3rd person view, but i gotta say its sorta sexy)
