my 5spd brighton is popping out of 4th and grinding when i try and hold it, its pretty awful. also there is a noticeable amount of clutch wobble and burning clutch death smell, even in neutral. :smt010 i knew it had issues and im prepared to fix them, but i was wondering if anyone had more insight to my issue. 5th gear seems to really thrash my clutch but it seems to like 3rd. help :smt022

Clutch chatter on these cars is usually damage to the trans snout. Pretty common since it is aluminum and it has a steel bearing that moves all over it.
Grinding and popping out of gear might be a linkage issue...but more than likely its any number of internal failures. Lots of things internal to the trans can cause this problem.

tear into it and see if it's something you can get fixed for cheap, i had a similar problem and tore the transmission apart had a shop press the bearings on for me and put it back together
whats the worst that could happen, you need a new transmission?
