I'll think about it. My next big mod is fabricating a light bar and attaching a some lights on top of a roof rack, so I can blind slow drivers in front of me if they do not move into the next lane! hahahahaha

I had that exact setup, black universal ra flaps+white logo and I did legit washing+prepping+heat drying the logo on there... it last for a good bit but here in with colorado driving some of the letters eventually started to come off, then I just took them all off, then it didn't look the same so i bought some ur ones :)

Yea I tried the whole "office trash can" method, but failed miserably. So I just bought a universal set after I butchered my old ones! lol Hate the plastic clips that held the screws in place!!

idk what it is but in my family its a goal to see how long our Subarus can last. My uncle's 1995 legacy wagon had over 300k miles before the engine died. My cousin's 1990 legacy is at 275k, and my other cousin's forester is at 160k. Its a tough competition amongst my family!!

Well I am currently making a light bar for the leggy! I used some pictures and advise from "lord flash" to get started. Heres part of the fabrication and mock up!

I used two stock holes that are built in the radiator support!
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/

instead of making a "bar" I just used a flat piece of steel.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/

doubled up the metal for the extra weight of the lights
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/

all welded up thanks to my uncle
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/

bolted the bar to the grille for extra support

all mocked on the car and I gotta say it looks good!!!

alright spent a lot of time this weekend to wrap up my lightbar project. stayed up til midnight on Saturday night and had no luck getting the lights to work. All I needed was a new switch, and works perfectly. I might strengthen the bar a little due to the lights shaking, but hey its a custom piece. Heres some pictures!!!

I needed a 12V+ for the switch, so I used the power for my stereo! Also used the ground too!

Well last weekend I took of my mud flaps. The whole "zippy screw" method of installation wasn't working out too well. Going to buy new ones and make a metal plate behind the mud flaps to give it some extra bracing.

Next Mod: Wheels & Tires. I'll keep the OEM wheels and put on some off road/all terrain tires for when I want to go have fun, but since summer is coming I want to get either 16 or 17". Any thoughts?

it uses a spring to push the shifter down. Unfortunately, last night I had the shifter got stuck and I couldn't get my car out of gear. So I took the shift knob off.

well I haven't changed much on the car. Installed my new hella supertones. sound great! While camping at Creation festival in Shirleysburg, PA, I did a little mountain rallyX with a buddy of mine Austin in his WRX. Lets just say it was a little sketchy with no guard rails, muddy roads, and reckless hillbilly drivers flying down the road at 30-40 mph when the turns are sharp! But I had a lot of fun and took some pictures.

Thanks. I am waiting to hear from my friend. He has an 02 WRX with Tein springs (^^the white one in the pics above!). He wants coilovers, and I want a stiffer suspension that's a little lower. As for the tint, idk yet. Part time job + college= broke! Here's my list of priorities:

suspension & new LF tire (got a camber issue)
alignment
exhaust (leak somewhere)
tint

If he actually does have s-tech springs (they're green) they really don't gain any performance for ya. I had some on my legacy. They seemed ok at first just for daily driving, but once I got it on an autocross track whoa buddy! I've never seen a car so low have so much body roll! Your car will be MUCH lower also. Not good for offroad, but it'll look sweet as hell tho lol.

Just do a lot of research about any spring and/or strut you're thinking about getting and weigh the options to figure out what's best for you.
Also I'm don't remember if 02 springs and struts bolt up without modification to our cars.

I've done the research and I found a great setup, BUT I don't have a large income (part time job at a grocery store). For $150, its a good deal for a college student. 02-07 WRX struts directly bolt on to the legacy body. And I would never autoX my 4eater! This is my DD/beater. Haven't put a ton of money into it for that reason.

It's right outside of South Williamsport, that part of the road is actually a deathly sharp hairpin turn.

I installed WRX struts, Tein springs (fitted for the WRX strut), and WRX top hats. It was a direct bolt in. The only difference between a WRX strut and the legacy strut was the brake hose tab. Other than that they looked the same!

I have some big updates so I'll make it quick! Primered my front bumper in refinishing class and started sanding my hood to prep for paint. Monday during my auto graphics class I will spray the bottom textured piece gunmetal as originally planned. Hope to have everything painted and mounted on the car by the end of next week!

As for the UEL headers they arrived in the mail on thrusday, and I wrapped them overnight into friday morning. I ran out of wrap! :smt021 After my friend got home from work we tried to intsalled them on my car, but I had a few issues. The first problem was that when I soaked the nuts in PB blaster and loosened them, I broke 3 of the 6 header bolts! Not a problem because they were broken off the whole way up to the bolt head, and I can thread in bolts to hold my headers in. The major problem I had was that one bolt from the header to the cat would not loosen. I soaked it in PB Blaster and tried with a socket and wrench. Then I tried an impact gun with no results. So after 5 hours of crawling on the floor and scraping my hands up, I simply put everything back together and put my new headers in the trunk. :smt022

here's what I did accomplish though!

Nice booth! Thats how i learned how to paint/bodywork through junior college. What paint did you use and what gun?

PPG Waterborne paint. I sprayed it with a SATA jet 300 spray gun.

You didn't remove the scoop insert to paint it?

I wanted remove it at first, but when paint was $3.61 an ounce (used about 35 so do the math) I had to save some money. Plus that didn't include the clear coat, primers, shop fee, and time to fix the bumper. Sad part is that it will still be cheaper than a body shop, but a better quality than Maaco. lol

I thought I was starting a trend. :smt019 I'm going to try and put the new bumper on tonight.

I had some bad news today. I was driving home from college and within 10 miles I had a flat tire. I called AAA and had a technician help me get my stubborn spare tire out of the trunk and on the car. Drove back to town to get the hole in the tire fixed, but I wore out the inside of the tread when it was running flat. Only option was to buy a new tire and drive home. Glad I had my roof basket on the car to put the donut wheel on because I had the rear seats down to fit my bumper and exhaust pipes.

I would recommend having someone photo shop that to see what it will look like. Might save you time and money if you want to change your decision.

I took 2 steps back today with my exhaust. A lot of my friends have told me to NOT wrap my headers because moisture will collect on the wrap and make the pipes brittle. I don't understand this, because almost every person on this forum who has headers wrapped them. Can anyone share some light on this? To give myself some comfort I sprayed the headers with a flame retardant paint from the local auto parts store. Should have them installed tomorrow with a sound clip.

I'll put in my 2 cents.

I bought my headers in mid 2008. Every time I'd drive by a wall, or something to project the sound coming from under the car up to me in the car, I heard a really annoying sound. It's been so long I don't even exactly remember what it sounded like, but it was very obvious. Most describe it as a sewing machine sound. Anyways, that made me decide to wrap the headers because it covers up the sound. Close to a year later the wrap was in tatters and the headers needed a rerap. When I upwrapped what was left of the heat wrap it was a complete mess underneath it, between the wrap and the metal. It looked like the wrap just collected dirt, junk and road debris and kept it there. I can see stuff like that lessening the lifespan of the headers. Then I tried painting the headers, wrapping it and then painting the wrap. I can't remember exactly what I used to paint it, some high temp paint I think, but it seems to be keeping a lot of the dirt and crap out. The wrap is lasting longer as well, 2 years later and only a small part of it came undone and I'm just going to get some more metal zip ties to secure the wrap back on.

So I recommend paint, wrap, and paint again to seal it all together.

Thank you Navi. Again I was told by EVERYONE not to wrap my headers. I finally succeeded in removing the stubborn bolt and got my new headers on. First thing I will say is they sound AMAZING! Hopefully tomorrow I will finish my exhaust by fabricating my axle back pipe and attaching my new muffler. After that is done I hope to wash the car and make a sound video for all you to enjoy!

The outback bumper and hood look amazing! Great work on the paint. Once you get some side skirts and a rear lip on it, it will look great!

Question for Navi
- How many metal zip ties did you use for the entire wrap?
- What company did you go with?
- Did you have to soak the wrap in water?
- how much tension did you use on the wrap arounds?
- did you section off the wraps or try 1 continuous wrap?
- how much overlap did you use.. 1/2" .. 1".. 1.5".. ?

nice ride you've got there man, I've pondered the headers bit, still sometimes think about it. What are your impressions??

Is yours a manual or auto?

Sadly, it's an automatic. I do have plans to swap in a 5 spd over the summer, unless I change my mind. As for the UEL headers, I'm in love with my car all over again! It sounds just like any boosted boxer would sound, and everyone seems to like the sound of it.

I'm fine with my auto until I decided to turbo it (either turboing my 2.2 or getting a 2.0).
I'm looking into a mod that might let us keep 50/50 power distribution outside of being in '1'.

Chad- You should!

Shane- the 4EAT is in a 50/50 power split in all gears except 4th, then its 90/10 I believe.
