Well its up and running, better than ever. Last Friday I put the motor in and have been driving it pretty hard since. No problems. I got a video ill try to upload. I raced a wrx with some small upgrades, I got beat, but not by much. Now I have some weird stuff I'm going to try to see some more power. The goal is to be at 12 psi by the end of the week. I'm at 7psi now. So we got some ground to make up. When I get to 12 psi we are going to dyno it at ziptie dynowerks in Utah. also I have a brake upgrade planned!

I thought you were running a modified WRX block? Not a NA build turboed?

did you run it in the Auto-x or rally-x sunday?
yeah, 12 PSI, isn't this a NA EJ22 block turboed? isn't 12 a bit high for a NA -22 block?
lord flashheart
08-17-2011, 04:05 PM
It's a frankenmotor. Phase 2 ej22 short block. which is every bit as stout as ej205 shortblock. Then I am using modified ej25d heads, STi 10mm oil pump, vf10 (for now but I have a vf23 that is up next) version 1 WRX intake manifold, forester XT intercooler, STi up pipe, legacy gt down pipe, stroumug cat back, stock 5speed, with a short shift kit. And yes only 7 lbs of boost on 9.0:1 . But like I said earlier, there is pressure and flow. This motor will support 15 psi. Give me some time and ill prove it.
Huffer
08-17-2011, 04:27 PM
C'mon, at 9.0:1 you can run 10psi out the door.
My guess on the weakest link will be the intake manifold.
What's your EM?
xoSubieLegacyxo
08-17-2011, 04:52 PM
Define "modified ej25 heads" Lol

08-18-2011, 12:15 AM
It's a frankenmotor.
the reverse frankenmotor..........set up for BOOST!!! FTW?!!! ;)
Give me some time and ill prove it.
I'm psyched to see it man!! It's going to be sick!!!
So tell me definitively, is a NA EJ22 semi closed, or closed.
I've heard both ways but know the EJ22T is fully closed, BUT OBDI, so suky for modifying... But a boosted OBDII NA EJ22.. . . . . . :D
anothernord
08-18-2011, 12:56 PM
Some guy in Colorado here was running 18 PSI on the exact same frankenblock with no problems. He tried to blow it up by turning up the boost to 23 PSI for a drag run, and it still didn't go.
lord flashheart
08-18-2011, 02:24 PM
The motor will suport well over 10 pounds. But the fuel injectors can't. The manifold isn't the weekest link. It flows very nice now that I ported, and polished it. Like I said I'm hoping to be up in the 15 psi range before long.
Moddified meaning they have shrouded valves, ported polished.
It is a reverse franken motor. I'm not a fan of the 2.5 with 2.2 heads. Because
1. It's a lousy way to make compression.
2. The 25D heads are good heads, the 22E heads suck, the 22e bottom end is awesome and the 25D bottom end is garbage.
So basically people are taking the to shittiest parts and combining them for a mega shitty engined
Ej22 n/a is open deck. All n/a subaru engines are open deck. The only closed deck are the ej22 turbo and the early ej20 jdm engines. The only semi closed deck is the STi. Which basically just has a little chunk of aluminum to reduce cylinder walk.
And yeah this is a bulit proof budget motor. I highly recomend it.
anothernord
08-18-2011, 07:25 PM
Yeah, you made an excellent choice. It basically gives you a motor of similar strength and compression to the EJ207, but with .2L more displacement. 22e shortblocks are everywhere.
The whole open/closed deck thing is really only an issue above 400WHP.
xoSubieLegacyxo
08-18-2011, 09:56 PM
interesting! I might have to look in depth on this reverse frank! haha
lord flashheart
08-19-2011, 12:18 PM
Yea that's why I chose this motor. Cheap, and durable. I have a spare long block and a short block ready to go in

What fuel injectors would you recommend?
lord flashheart
08-31-2011, 03:03 PM
Well the computer can usually trim 15 percent. So 320-330cc injectora should work which should put me at the 9 is lbs mark. Unfortunately I don't think subaru ever did a 320cc side feed, the next closest is 360cc from the legacy turbo. However I am going a different route... Rising rate fuel pressure regulator or fmu for short. That combined with a walbro 255 fuel pump should bet me to the 12-15 lbs of boost. Basically the pressure fegulator uses boost refrence and holds fuel pressure accordingly. Basically higher pressure means more fuel when the injectora opens but at idle its still where it should be.
anothernord
08-31-2011, 03:13 PM
You don't be able to run that much boost with JUST an RRFPR and a fuel pump. You really need larger injectors and a way to scale them. Even an S-AFC would work. You don't want to be making your little stock injectors scream up to 100% IDC all the time.
lord flashheart
09-01-2011, 04:03 PM
Hmm well to be honest this is my first go at a rising rate, however, one of our very trusted tuners told me it should take me there. Plus I'm really not afraid of exploring limits with this car. And 100% duty cycle isn't scary. I'm at 100% now. Besides that, this tuner has lead me thru a lot of issues and he has always been reliable for me. Now I know u know your Shit when it comes to cars but I trust him more cuz I know what he has/can do. No offence.

so back on topic.
well the paintjob i did really turned out shitty. due to a few things.
1. i improperly mix the paint
2. tempature was like below 30 degrees
3. my skills with a paint gun or lack there in.
so. new plan. i have a friend who does powdercoating and painting.
i am going to pick a new color, he is going to help me with it. also plan on replacing many of the banged up body panels. (trunk, 1 door, one fender, the hood, bumper) then paint replacement panels, ie. fenders, doors, bumpers, hoods etc. just in case. ya know?
so now i get to choose a new color.
first option,
dark grey with silver flake like so...

Nice build man. You doing all the work yourself? Wish I had the resources and or talent to do so! Couple of questions.
How did you port / polish your intake manifold?
Any pictures of the paint? Bad or not, would be interesting to see it. What type of setup are you using compressor/gun wise?
Great thread! :smt023
Btw: Dark grey w/silver flake looks the best. Gotta love silver type colors.
lord flashheart
09-02-2011, 10:29 PM
thanks for the input. something about the green just keeps tugging at me
d1giphux, thanks. and yeah ive done everything myself. i work for a engine shop, and 90% of the engines we do are just basic rebuilds, but the other part 10% of the engines are high performance. there is a lot of knowledge in our shop. so the guys at work have helped. as far as CCing the heads, flow testing, porting polishing etc.
i use the term port and polish kinda loosely.. the guy who does the porting and polishing, did alot of it and showed me how to do it, i just took a gasket, marked it on the manifold, and trimmed the manifold to match the gasket. then i took a dremle and smoothed out the inside, then took a "flapper" and used it to make everything nice and smooth. reducing turbulence creates better air flow.
its a gravity feed gun, craftsman 6.5HP compressor, with a water filter and regulator that the paint supply store recomended.
i really dont have any recent pics of it.. its still the same. blue with white stripes. but im dumping the stripes when i paint again.

gray, meh. there are a lot of WRX's that are gray. i think you should do White with white wheels. or that Dark Blue, like my outback, with white wheels. or flourescent white. like on schoolbuses and crap. so anytime someones headlights hit it, it lights up. or whiteboard, or chalkboard paint. or tien green would be sick, a little lighter than your previous green.

Any shade of green in particular?
lord flashheart
10-09-2011, 02:33 PM
see page 9 for examples of the colors i was thinking about.
i do like the dark green with white wheels.
so, i hate describing my mods in stages but oh well.
on a side note. my car is getting close.
i got a apexi super AFC so now all i need for "stage 1" to be complete is:
- VF23 turbo (have, not installed)
- yellow STi fuel injectors (have, not installed)
- Dyno tune
- lowering springs
- end links
- ball joints (bad)
- shocks (blown)
and that will complete stage one. my tuner says ill be at about 250-270CHP (which at this altitude is pretty good)
the turbo is enough for 320WHP, but the gearbox, injectors, and fuel pump probably wont suport that.
"stage 2" will be
- JDM 6MT or 5MT (depending on budget.)
- catless down pipe
- front mount
- RWD conversion (i dont wanna go RWD till i have something else to drive in the winter)
- Serious weight reductions.
- 850cc fuel injectors
- AEM engine managment
- tune to 300WHP
- coil overs
im hoping stage 1 will be done before 2012
and stage 2 summer of 2013

Well, last time everyone was like "dude your car has a bown head gasket" and got me all freaked out. Last time there was nothing wrong with it. But I'm very confident in my engine building skills (i rebuild engines for a living) and there was nothing wrong with the long motor what so ever. It's just a bad water pump. Doing the motor on tomorrow. Just gotta finish the new long block, pull th old one and put the new one in. Gonna change a few things up to upgrade.

So got bad news and some good news.
Bad news is there was a huge wind storm with wind speeds of over 100 mph. Well my 06 outback XT got all fucked up, and the insurance might total it.
The good news is that I might be able to keep the engine, wiring harness, and ecu. Possibly the whole car. If you don't remember the engine was just built with wiseco forged pistons, acl race bearings and should be good to 600 HP. So if all that happens I will be putting it in my legacy, with turbo, injectors and a tune. so keep your fingers crossed.

IMO, some of the best years. I used to have an 86 2dr 4Runner with removable roof. Loved that thing! Would rather drive it than anything else I had the time. Sold it after 2 years for twice as much as I paid to a friend who kept hounding me for it. I bought it with a bad headgasket on a 22RE. Bought another motor, tossed it in for 2 years of problem free driving. Thing would go anywhere, anytime! Miss it. Too bad for rust issue, 'cause I would get 1 in a heartbeat ASAP!

I want to keep EJ22 ('cause I like the no HG failure option), but would like a (LOW $$) bit higher performance (like higher compression or something) without boosting, but I'd also like for the block to go a while more (100+K) ...

If you are wOrried about by failure when building an engine go ahead and do the headgaskets while the heads are off. Lol.
lord flashheart
03-05-2012, 12:26 PM
Haha depends on what you mean by high compression. We don't get many used 22s in, and even less with performace stuff. If u just want a set of decent 99+ EJ22 pistons I will watch for some.
lord flashheart
03-05-2012, 12:33 PM
Ps the newer EJ25d head gaskets are much better than the ones that come in it from the factory. The real weak point in the 25d is the crank and rods. They use a tiny rod journal. It's like 1.8 inches and the EJ22 is 2.065 or somthing like that. Which doesn't sound like much but that extra .2 inches helps over lap the journals giving the crank strength, and also makes the bearings bigger which makes the surface area bigger so less likely to spin a bearing.
superu
03-05-2012, 11:39 PM
;)
Yeah, that's good stuff. 99 2.2 pistons might be fun, those were 9.8 or10:1, right? I think my 95 is like 9.5:1, or at least when it was new :D
I'm not worried about HGs in my 2.2, in fact I'm not going to mess with the heads, i'll just reseal everything else but leave the heads on.
Mostly just talking what would be neat, and what would be neat is pretty much always what you don't have ;)
I just need to clean up the VCs and cam seal leaks, maybe a water pump problem, then do the timing and call it good.
Strangely enough, it turns out that racing a car is pretty hard on the engine. Huh, who knew?! ;)

162.4 WHP. which after altitude and drivetrain loss is 265 HP at the flywheel.

We dynod a 2001 2.5rs with a k&n and headers and he did 108hp at the wheels, we also had a 2000 2.5 RS that we built the engine and he did 134whp he had full headers, delta cams, 12.5:1 wiseco pistons, custom intake, and a tune.
The tuner said most wrxs do about 155-160 wheel horsepower. All of these were on the same dyno.

I know that there is only like two people following my thread but what the hell..
So for the last month or so I have been gathering parts for my STi swap. But as usual the treasury (my wife) has imposed some budget cuts (particularly on automotive related items) so the WISECO forged pistons, and the WRX transmission have been cut from the budget at this point.
Anyways..
Here is the set up.
Rebuilt 2008 STi shortblock....almost done
ACL race bearings.....check
ort and polished "metric motors 400 series" heads........check
Port and polished EJ20K manifold (freshly powdercoated).......check
VF23 ball bearing turbo..........check
Good set of cheap headers...........check
AEM EMS4 standalone ecu.........check (need to finish the harness)
'modified' 650cc injectors........check
STi top mount intercooler OR front mount intercooler. (Can't decide)

One thing I'll say is that turbo might be a little small for your setup's potential - and you'll definitely need a fmic to reach it ;)
Oh and where's a pic of the "Billet oil fill neck and cap"? that sounds like about the only thing I'd replace my uber-jdm factory aluminum filler neck with, lol.
Great work

Looking good. Are you going to do anything to the header or just slap them on? Cause from my experience ebay headers are good but the welds are weak. I usually reweld the whole header and maybe add some bracing to it.
I don't know if you got a full sti shortblock but if your ever rebuilding a phase 2 2.5, crawford performance sells the sti pistons/rods for like $200 shipped. Basically brand new. They tear up new sti engines and slap their forge stuff on.

Very nice list. I'd say TMIC for response, the key is to get all the cowling around it to fit well. And replace that pre-turbo pipe while the manifold is off, the stock ones can rip over time and of course are restrictive.

I've been following this since you bought the car! haha Glad to see some updates. I would say TMIC because you can pick one up relatively cheap so the misses won't get mad, and then you can save up for a FMIC when the time comes. Looks good so far!

04-12-2012, 09:33 AM
Haha thanks, I think I w
ill go with a TMIC for now like u were saying,
As for the turbo, it is a bit small, but my theory is that since it was made for the 2.0 that revs higher a slightly bigger engine at lower rpms will keep it in its efficency range. Right now I'm just looking for 320chp and I'm told that turbo is good for 390chp people have done 320whp with them from what I hear. I would def. Want to get a synergy td06 or a vf39/43 but that's later on.
As far as the headers go I am going to put them on while its on our engine dyno, and give them a full work out, see how they handle it. I may end up re welding and modifying them. It is a STi shortblock from a 2008, I may look into that. The STi rod are pretty stout little things. We have used them to 500+ with no problemsi would really like some forged pistons, and I may still get some wiseco but ill look into the crawford.
Hmm you are refering to the intercooler y pipe correct? Unfortunatly I don't have any sort of cowling, and the stock gt scoop is worthlless above 60 mph because the air just goes right over the Dang thing.

I meant the turbo inlet (bottom left of pic). As for cowling between the IC and hood, Home Depot may suffice.

Are you still going to use that 06 WRX TMIC? I have the same one and I have the same intake manifold and heads probably. Problem is, the IAC on that manifold is right where the BPV mounts on the intercooler and I can't use the WRX BPV. Interested to see what you come up with if you stick with that intercooler.

Well my plan is to use the EJ20k intercooler, but I do know what you talking about. And we talked about this on page 4 or something. I believe we came to the conclusion that you get an adapter that is low profile enough to slip out to a in line bov. If I can't get the intercoller from this kid who is taking for ever to get a shipping quote and pictures, I may be going to a usdm intercooler or a cheap fmic.

My new front mount intercooler kit (not a universal kit) came from CXracing. I haven't installed it yet, but so far I'm actually very suprised with the quality, I got a deal on it thru a wholesale thing for $200 shipped, normally like $360+ the welds and craftsmanship if the pipes are actually impressive. I am very very happy. I also got some white line end links as well.

Yeah I'm hoping to be 325chp. And when I say that I mean real horse power. I talked to a guy who was claiming with 440injectors he makes 300 at the wheels. (which isn't physically possible because there isn't enough fuel to make that much power.) And then he says he is gonna makes more power than my new engine is going to. So I asked him.. what are you using as a horse? I'll take my 300 Clydesdales at the flywheel then your 300 'my little ponys' at the wheels.

Anyways sorry for the lack of updates. I've been super busy. I got my new intake air temp sensor, GM 3 bar map sensor, heat wrap, and a bunch of bits and pieces in the mail. I also sent out the intercooler piping to be powder coated to match the intake manifold, and put the new fuel pump in. yeah i have a LGT bumper cover, and i plan on running no bumper beam. however doubt that it will be done before u get yours in, i still have wiring and dynoing to do. besides my car is gonna be down for a while as i have alot to do.
the parts i am going to install all at once are:
1994 legacy turbo radiator
1994 legacy turbo engine cross member
maybe WRX gear set
FMIC
air/conditioning (cant wait)
deachwerks 255L pump
650cc modded injectors
VF23 ball bearing turbo
EJ20K manifold n such
tri-y stainless headers
oil cooler
STi short block w/ ACL race bearings
ported, high flow EJ25 heads
dash gauges
Strait pipe exhaust (no muffler)
sway bar end links
GM 3 bar map sensor
hydraluic clutch
if i can get this WRX gearset off this guy for cheap enough, this set up will be enough for 320WHP. or 380HP at the flywheel.
which in my opinion is about all that makes sense on the EJ25. i was talking to a cobb engineer and he was saying that 350WHP is the limit of what these engines can handle and remain semi reliable for a daily driven car. and as a machinist i personally agree with him. and before anyone jumps in and says dumb shit like "well my friend has a wrx that did 400whp and he drives it every day."
i just want to point out that only having to get a new engine every 60k is not reliable.
so far i have only met one person that has a wrx with 350whp that was able to make it last..

i think the vf23 and vf22 are all ball bearing turbos...i have had both on my car and they are similar its just that the 22 has a larger compressor housing...with abit, no a lot lag over the vf23...but the kick on the vf22 is like a sledge hammer. and they both have a sexy spool down sound on engine shut down...which is normal especially with a pod filter.

cool, thanks for the info. i haven't really put too much into it. i would prefer a 22 but the 23 is all i have availible at the moment. down the road i will do a td06 or vf39

lord flashheart

i like this design because it pairs the 1&2 cylinders and the 3&4 cylinders together, which is good for sound, and performance. plus the runner length is ideal for mid-range power.
the only real down side is the distance of the turbo from the heads, thats a lot of space for the exhaust gases to cool before it reaches the turbo, and since 70% of turbocharger spool is related to heat. (i want to put the emphasis on the word 'related') so keeping the heat in the exhaust will be key, i spent a good chunk of change on, aluminum foil, heat wrap, and high temp silicone spray.

are you sure your not going to miss the boxer rumble?? tones of JDM STIs with no rumble here...those with decent exhausts sound the business though.
lord flashheart
08-13-2012, 09:27 PM
i know i love the subaru rumble, but you can make EL headers sound good. if i dont like it ill i can always go back. one of the reasons i am doing this is to find out how much gain you get from this set of headers. we will be playing with them on the dyno.

 I'll make a bet: 10whp.
lord flashheart
08-13-2012, 10:29 PM
well obviously the power gains would be greater when compounded with a cam, and a tune. but i estimate 13whp
mike-tracy
08-13-2012, 10:36 PM
Oh so you're going to do a bunch of dyno pulls, such as:
UEL vs EL stock tune & cams
UEL vs EL stock tunes plus aggressive cams
UEL vs EL tuned plus stock cams
UEL vs EL tuned plus aggressive cams
lol this could go on forever.
But it will finally provide evidence for us internet jockeys to yack about for a while. :)
lord flashheart
08-13-2012, 11:08 PM
well... minus the cams. i dont have $800 to shell out for 262 cams.. but.. i do have access to some EJ20G and EJ20K cams so i may play with those.

Your heads are mechanical right? I asked Marnix on Nastysock and he said while 20g/k cams are interchangeable, "bad things happen over 7k rpm" lol.
lord flashheart
08-14-2012, 12:34 AM
thats interesting cuz iirc the k was great above 6k and the g was good for breathing the low end and pickin up spool, but were pretty much done and 6500 but the D was prime till 7k then the torque really tanks. which my set up fuel cut is 7k. our camshaft guy say that the 262 regrinds are the best for all around on the EJ25D heads with a turbo.
mike-tracy
08-14-2012, 01:09 AM
What he meant was mixing and matching, ie. G cams on k heads etc. I'm sure custom cams could do the best of both worlds if you have the coin, lol.

What exactly is the purpose (or results) of the 262 regrind? I was reading on NASIOC once that the EJ25D had incredibly similar lift duration times to the EJ20K; which is probably why they flow so well in the first place.
+ I though you said something about AVCS heads being the best upgrade. What changed?
lord flashheart
08-14-2012, 03:54 PM
Avcs is the best upgrade, but you have to have a computer that will control Avcs. Jdm Avcs heads with custom grid came with a tune would seriously dominate. They are very similar to STi heads.
But, you have to have a computer to control it. Avcs heads can't be used in place of non Avcs heads. I have a set of the EJ25 Jdm only Avcs heads that I could run on my application, because I have a standalone, but that would require me adding stuff to my existing harness, taking the current heads off, rebuilding them, porting, deshrouding, and getting a different manifold, having it powdercoated, and new gaskets. And when I'm done the computer can't be as dynamic as I would like it would be a very crude on/off set up. When they were designed as a varriable system. It would be better, but for my application the gains wouldn't out weigh the head aches.

lord flashheart
09-14-2012, 02:22 PM
Cuz I have a vf23 in my hands That I got for basically free. I can't justify buying a diff turbo when I have one that will do the job. I try to get it running first then make upgrades. One of my buddies has a 280z that he started like 4 years ago, and he hasn't driven it because he buys all expensive shit the first time. Which works on paper, but I rather go out enjoy it. Make up grades when you can.

Anyways on to something with 1/3 the number of cylinders...
I did some custom plumbing, and also sent out the hardware out for zinc plating. Not everything is zinc plated, but I did a bunch of bolts, plugs, tubes, brackets, and fittings. Now I can't stop thinking... Damnit.. should have had my throttle body leaver, and the power steering lines. Looks Mich better now anyways. Probably do another batch sometime.

most of the subaru ones, are built into the mass air sensor, along with alot of cars.
alot of aftermarket ones are expensive,
some cars use a slide in with a rubber gromit style sensor, which doesnt work well with boost.
the honda ones have threads, are cheap, and work great/reliable.

lord flashheart
10-28-2012, 12:36 AM
very nice sir. i know you were working hard to find one of those HI/LOW range EJ transmissions. for a while.
we have built a few blown EG33. what does the world want to know?
they are pricey to build right, but when they are built right, they are absolute animals.
truely superior to the EZ series engine. the only real down fall is the hydraulic buckets in the head.
the last one we built, was a twin turbo EG33, which IF i recall correctly we:
put manly rods, wiseco forged pistons, sleeved it to a 99.5 bore which was like a 3.5 liter (or somthing like that)
machined the heads to accept SI 1mm over valves, and EJ205 shimless buckets, 272 cams, and full port and polish.
it was an animal. it was built before i worked at the machine shop, but from what i have herd, it did some seriously ridiculous numbers. (and im talking well into the 4 digits kind of ridiculousness).
the bottom end is basically the EJ22 in a 6 cylinder platform. so almost anything you can do with the 2.2 you can do with the EG33. i believe the head shared alot of similarities with the 96 EJ25D hydraulic head. but still a totally different head. (which in my opinion is proof that the EJ22/EJ25D reverse frankenmotor is such a great running motor.)
anyways did alot of sanding, and a tiny bit of painting today. i still need to finish sanding and painting.
here is the base coat all done. i decided to go easy on the metalic this time. unlike in the pics i posted earlier. i was worried that it looked great in the dark shop, but in the sunlight it might look a bit too....FABulous.

BTW, nic looking rig, round 2 on paint scheme looks fun. Remember when you used to DRIZVE your car, instead of fiddlefiddle with it? ;) :smt002
very nice sir. i know you were working hard to find one of those HI/LOW range EJ transmissions. for a while.
we have built a few blown EG33. what does the world want to know?
they are pricey to build right, but when they are built right, they are absolute animals.
truely superior to the EZ series engine. the only real down fall is the hydraulic buckets in the head.
the last one we built, was a twin turbo EG33, which IF i recall correctly we:
put manly rods, wiseco forged pistons, sleeved it to a 99.5 bore which was like a 3.5 liter (or somthing like that)
machined the heads to accept SI 1mm over valves, and EJ205 shimless buckets, 272 cams, and full port and polish.
it was an animal. it was built before i worked at the machine shop, but from what i have herd, it did some seriously ridiculous numbers.

Bro im sorry. Call me once in a while..
Also
Almost every time we finish an engine for a customer they always ask what oil we recomend.
I want to FULLY ENDORSE Joe Gibbs racing oil. It is without a doubt the best thing you can do for your engine.
I offen recomend alot of quality products (ACL, Wiseco, JE, CMD pressure lube, Clevite, Wix filters etc.) but if there is any product that i would swear up and down by it would be this stuff. The Joe gibbs hot rod #3 synthetic oil. If anuone wants to know why i would love to explain.

It looks like we are on schedule to start the engine and tune TOMORROW.
I just got to hook up a couple little things and put my joe gibbs break in oil in the motor.

Ok so first off lets start with the ZDDP. Its known as the good stuff in oil because ZDDP (or zinc for short) under heat and pressure becomes like a super lubricant. It also coats everything so under drystarts it keeps everything lubricated till you get oil pressure. Well a couple years ago the EPA started regulating how much companys can use. (my boss claims we have seen more engine failures since thishappened, however i cant conferm or deny.)
The reason for that is because the zinc was damaging catylitic converters. I dont believe they have found a suitable
Replacment.
Enter joe gibbs.
Joe gibbs XP, break in, and hot rod oils are designed for racing applications, military vehicles, and old fasion hot rods.
None of which are subject to emissions. I.e no cats.
So they can use the desired amount of ZDDP.
Also since its designed for hot rods, they have extremely good wear protection. See old engines didnt have the technology to use lubrication to jts full potential. If you put the oil you put in your subaru into an old hot rod you would flatten
The camshaft. Where as if you put a oil that was designed for these old primitive engines in your subaru it will be that little extra protection.
And the reason the military chooses to use it is because most military vehicles sit around for long periods of time.
This oil also clings to the parts so when you start the engine your not damaging the bearings.
Subarus have major problems with bearings. This is because the oil doesnt
Have the viscosity at high temps to protect the bearigs. The oil is too thin. Joe gibbs is a 15 w 50. Which is ideal for subarus.
Because it has the viscosity at high temps. The only real down side is you have to let your engine idle to warm up the oil when its cold. But if you have a performance engine you should do this anyways.

So after 12 hours on the dyno it still wouldnt start. The calibration file they sent me wont work. So we changed the crank gear and the engine sputtered. This is the first signs of life my engine has shown. Tomorrow we will work on it a bit more and with any luck we will run it.

also i forgot to update you all on the car. i got bored, and i had the turbo setup, and a spare franken motor laying around, so i figured why not.
slapped the hybrid motor in there and cranked the boost to 10lbs.... runs nice at 10 psi.
