I fixed your title :-D
I got to say.. I really do not like WRB or whatever it is but it actually looks good on your car.. The DC logos are mint but overkill IMO but who cares your car is rockin'
Love the tinted lights and what's up with your rear windows?
Keep up the good work

i agree with chuck, not a fan of the WRB but you pull it off nicely, nice wagon
I like it.
Get rid of the ricer HID's, stickers and scoop and i'll love it :)

How did you install the rear spoiler! did it fit perfectly/ i believe thats the 00-04 version!

Thats a rockin legacy man, my only criticism is I hate the muffler it sticks down below the bumper too much. Otherwise you have a sweet looking subie.

Dig the color, but the HID (fail in halogen hosing) and leds really turn me off of it...
LoL it took me a while to figure out what the thing was you were holding in your hand (rear cam cover, passenger side head pI 2.2)

Lose (or add) consistent tint to all the windows.
Lose the DC stickers - your not Ken Block
Faux HID's are no bueno
Do something about the droopy front grill & exhaust
Find OEM rear spoiler
Add OEM or JDM OE Fogs
Otherwise it looks good!

just to beat a dead horse:
goodbye to the 10000k hids, get 4500k or 5000k
goodbye to the horrendously installed wing that isnt made for the car
goodbye to the honda "led's" that light your cabin blue
and that nasty honda ricer scoop needs to go too..
and everything else but the grille is great

Don't worry about the haters, I'll bet most of them wish they had wheels that awesome when they were 17, lol.
I'm with them on the Block stickers, though, - he gave up on Subaru so I gave up on him.

Car looks great inperson minus the fender bender that just happened the other day.
When I was 17 I was rocking 8k/10k blue hids and blue led interior... I know Zach will look back and laugh years down the road am sure like I did. 5000k/pure white hids is where it's at... Night and Day difference and you will be much happier how well they light the road up but you DO need some JDM headlights now. I like the spoiler so don't listen to them. It gives the rear end some flavor and a good taste instead of boring plain jane. Keep up the work and if you need help with parts installing/finding or anything with it just let me know since am not that far away.

Hey thanks for all your feedback guys, because of the accident(4 car pile up) I got in right after I posted this haha
When I get the new bumper I won't put another DC sticker on, yay! haha and I can fix the droopy grill and I'm in the
middle of painting my spoiler right now to match my paint job(before it was a non matching non prepped spraypainted dark blue).
I also got rid of the HID's. I don't understand why you guys don't like the scoop though and also, there's no way I'm gettin rid of the Led's haha there too fun.
To fix my fender bender I'm in need of a left turn signal lamp-I need and want a GT black hood-and a GT or JDM front bumper. Let me know if you guys have anything.
Thanks again for all your feedback guys it really helps a lot!
This is market street in Tacoma-where me and Matty2hotty met up with me to give me the paint for my spoiler-thanks again btw man it looks SOLID!

and yes the inconsistent tint NEEDs to go haha I've experimented with 3 types and only black magic holds up for me so far.
That's the 2 that are tinted-I just need to get around to it. and ya I feel the same about Ken Block giving up on Subaru-LAME
I took my head lights to the Fortlewis auto body shop and they sprayed them with like 3 coats and a clear coat.
Hood Scoop came with the car as did the DC sticker haha but you just need to place the scoop over your hood and draw a line around it and cut
it a cm inside the line and then place the scoop on top and rivit it in

thiat is true i also had a nice car when i was seventeen and all i had was haters but thats what you get when you have a mercedes. the best thing about it was it only coasted me 2k !!
about the ken block thing he is debatable the best person to have behind the wheel of a subaru . why he left from my knowledge is that his contract/spnasership was up and he get an offer from ford that he could not resist. and in life you are always chaseing money so maybe thats what he was doing. i know i would love to see him back behind the wheel of a subaru sliding and drifting in ways that most people only dream of.

That sucks about the destruction derby you were involved in...
The reason I don't really like your scooped hood is because it just doesn't seem to flow right for me, anyways...
That'll buff right out! lol, I'm sure you can find a trashed outback with a good scooped hood in washington. JDM bumpers usually come from ebay, but I haven't seen any good deals on them in forever. They're very pricey! You should get some JDM projector headlights from ebay too! They go for like a little more than $100 nowadays I think. A jdm grill would go great too if that got messed up in the crash.
What brand/color of paint did you use on the wheels? I really like how it looks and want to paint my wheels this summer!
rallywagon
02-22-2011, 03:52 PM
Wheels came with the car man haha I'm not to sure. I don't know dude I think that impreza hood scoop really looks sick. I like it dude.
How do you think a black GT hood would look? Also what if I got a tilted exhaust at the end pointing upper left would that look clean?

If you want the most baller of all the hood scoops, get a JDM WRX scoop, and make it more functional. That would look absolutely amazing.

There's something about how your car looks that's just awesome to me. I usually frown upon tinting lights at all for safety reasons, but I can't get over how good it looks (I'm thinking about it now, haha, maybe just a light coat). I think you should just do zip-tie stitches on the broken bumper, I think it'd be bad-ass, but you would lose the clean look (it would look cleaner with fewer stickers though).
Don't change the ride height more than an inch from stock if you don't want it to handle like absolute ass. We have McPherson struts after all, they don't respond well to lowering.
My zip-tie stitches:

He's got a '96+ 2.2L which have single port heads, no one makes headers for them.

Thanks man haha ya just do 2 coats and a clear coat and it'll look gnarly man. Dude I've been wanting to do the stiches! I can't really find out how to do it though-I got small like 4 inch zip ties and I wanna do it with those. How exactly do you do that?
Also, I'm getting RS struts-are those better for lowering?
Soul Shinobi
03-03-2011, 04:17 PM
I drilled pairs of holes and stuck them in from the back. Each X is a pair of zip-ties. I spent 7 hours on that in two sittings. I was being really really anal working with small zip-ties putting them close together. I did it from the back without removing the bumper from the car so it was hard as hell, but the bumper's not too hard to remove and that would making things way easier. It looks cleaner if you use a drill bit sized just the same width as the zip-ties you're using, but depending on your style you might want it looking more beat up with big holes and the zip-tie ends on the outside, etc...
And buy your zip-ties here, lots of colors to choose and the prices are UNBEATABLE: MonoPrice - Cable Management (http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10520)

03-03-2011, 06:17 PM
So RS struts are good?
Struts are struts, the brand may make a difference, for instance Bilsteins will probably be better than KYB. Im assuming that Legacy and RS struts would be basically the same, but someone else will have to chime in on it.
Soul Shinobi
03-03-2011, 06:27 PM
The RS ones are possibly just a little stiffer, but nearly all stock Subaru struts are made by KYB. The next step up for struts is the KYB GR2 which for your car won't run much more than $200 for a set of 4. They ride very well, are stiffer than stock, and work well with springs that are stiffer and as much as an inch lower than stock. WRX struts are close to GR2s in performance if I recall, and if you look you can find STI struts for decent money used, but they vary in style. I believe any Subaru strut will bolt up (so long as it's not from the rear of a 2000+ Legacy/Outback, 2008+ Impreza, SVX or Tribeca). Always research the spring/strut combo you're looking at, and you might need saggy-butt spacers if you settle on sedan springs (wagon rear springs are longer and aftermarket options aren't common).

I wanna go back to my old grill to expose the new Hella Horns-I used the Mesh from it to put in my hood scoop. Should I go to home depot and grab another thing of Mesh? Should I leave it silver or paint it black? 3rd question-or should I just get a honeycomb sti grill which I don't really have any money for.

Have you checked out Yamazaki's JDM Sales Thread, he has some very nice used parts for your car at great prices... I highly recommend him. Here is the link: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=15649 (http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=15649)
He currently has projector headlights, jdm mudguards, and jdm taillights that are for your car... They would make your car even more unique and dress up the exterior... If you have the money I would pick up all three...

Well, can't complain. Might get saggy-butt with that, but depending on the adjustability it might be fine if you just leave the rear at the highest setting. Just don't slam them, it'll ride and handle awful.

Pshhh slam it and get your tires tucked.
rallywagon
03-07-2011, 03:26 PM
Tires tucked? Why is it gonna ride awful? Also I'm gonna cut all 4 springs-I know it might be bouncy but it couldn't be that bad right? A lot of people cut there springs, also I'm probably gonna get some newer ones eventually and then I won't cut those
Soul Shinobi
03-07-2011, 08:34 PM
With McPherson strut setups like we have they start to camber in as they go through their travel, having them near bottomed out can cause dangerous handling with poor, potentially unpredictable grip. Those adjustable springs you have are already going to be pretty low, I wouldn't cut those. Well, you shouldn't cut any spring for more complex reasons involving spring rate and thermal shock (depending on cutting method) etc... Hey, we pride ourselves here at SL-i on being a lot less rice than the other forums.
rallywagon
03-08-2011, 03:35 PM
That's true-so I'm gonna sand blast the springs, get new bushings, I already wire wheeled everything including the springs, I'm soon gonna repaint the springs. and the plan is to only cut the springs a couple cm's to match the one spring that's been cut very minimally. I'm most likely going to make these look real nice and sell them on craigslist for $200 with 2 struts. 2 of the struts are dead so if anything I would use my stock struts or just get new ones which I probably should do haha. If I fall in love with the outcome though I might use them for at least a little bit.

Oh ya I forgot to mention I'm not cutting the springs haha. That's some dumb highschool v dub shit just took me a minute to realize that haha. I'm gonna get a new one to match the 4. I'm sandblasting the springs at 5:30 today and wire wheeled all the rust and old paint off it yesterday. I'm using my friends oven to powder coat these haha. Trust me there won't be anymore rice I've gotten rid of the rest of it.
I wouldnt slam stock struts, you'll be lucky if they last you 6 months. I would lower an inch tops from stock rideheight if you want these to last.

Soul Shinobi
05-27-2011, 11:06 PM
Front top hats from a second gen Impreza (02-07) most certainly don't fit our cars, but first gen Imprezas and Legacys are the same as our second gen Legacys. However, the rears of second gen Imprezas fit our cars (and not the first gen Impreza or Legacy).
rallywagon
05-28-2011, 03:05 PM
Ya your right, the 02 kyb's fit the front springs but the top hat in the back doesn't fit. Can I just use an 04 wrx top hat? will that go into my 3 holes? If not can I just "jimmy rig" 3 new holes? I feel like that would be terrible lol but idk what to do except for waiting for a long time and running into some 02 Megan back springs.
Soul Shinobi
05-28-2011, 03:09 PM
The rears will fit, use the tophats from your current setup on the WRX front struts. Struts put a lot of force on that upper mounting point, weakening it by drilling holes would be a bad idea.
rallywagon
05-28-2011, 05:09 PM
Are you saying buy the 04 wrx rear top hats and to use my current front top hats? If so that's what I'm plannin on doing. Also what you mean is that the rear top hats will fit and the spring cup is just different from the 02?
Soul Shinobi
05-28-2011, 11:45 PM
I'm pretty sure you can use your front tophats, but I'm not actually sure how the rear tophats meet up with the springs. You might abour able to just use your Legacy rear ones too (I said use the WRX rear ones because I assumed your struts came with some). You might have to do a little digging.
chuckthefuk
05-29-2011, 12:02 AM
The top hat itself isn't the issue.
The spring has to be matched with its corresponding perch when rear tapered springs are used.
Those Megan Racing springs where designed for an STi not a WRX...
-Chuck
Soul Shinobi
05-29-2011, 12:07 AM
Ah, that's right. My memory is foggy, I couldn't remember if the upper spring perch was part of the top hat, and it seems not. So you should be able to use your current tophats fine. Or you could buy Group N, that's cool too.
you can run 02-07 WRX springs on your legacy.
All you need are the front wrx spring perches. front and rear tophats are the same
rallywagon
05-29-2011, 03:40 AM
Ok let me make myself a little more clear. I own 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX struts, the springs I bought say on the box '04-'07
The front two springs fit on my 2002 wrx top hat great. But the back two springs are shaped like an upside down cone where as
the 2002 springs are shaped almost exactly like the fronts. My 2002 rear top hats are too big for my 2004-2007 rear springs.
As a matter of fact I had to cut about 3 inches out of the rubber lining just for the rubber to fit. Now the springs are in there
right now and haven't given me any problems yet but the problem still remains that the "plate" or "cup" that is below and attached
to the top hat is toooooooo big so the springs sit awkwardly below it.
Here's a picture I took before I installed them
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/05/mms_picture-1.jpg
So now let me ask again, if I buy rear '04 '07 top hats, will they fit??

GD WRX and GD STi top hats are virtually identical.
Cone style spring = TAPERED SPRING
You bought 04-07 STI SPRINGS which use REAR Tapered springs.
YOU NEED the matching upper perch
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/04/stuff-1.jpg
This is why your spring moves around when using the WRX upper perch because the WRX does not use tapered rear springs.

Does your sister know you posted pictures on the Internet with her in it? LoL
you'll need STi front spring perches and STi rear tophats then, if they even fit on legacys. Or go ask Navi how he got his STi springs to fit on his legacy wagon.
P.S. is that your sister?

Thanks man, the power steering and alternator are just stock and painted right now.
I'm gonna get some new ones soon but the crank pulley is COBB.
The alternator mount was something I fabricated. I took out my AC condensor so I
needed a new bracket. I took this totally scrap rusty metal and wire wheeled it and welded it
and painted it. Here I'll post another picture from right after I shaved off the rust.

The first couple of pics I was thinking Holy Effin Blue! but I really like the World Rally Blue on it. My only complaint on your car would be on the front bumper where the little lip should be black on the bottom isn't black so it gives no contrast. Only from an art student's point of view :P
However, it's possible you may have the most interesting car pictures I've seen in a long time, I'm loooovin your HDR shots.

Ok guys I'm lookin at a complete 2005 Legacy GT turbo 250 HP engine with 100k on it for $2200. Should I buy it?
mycargoesvroom
08-06-2011, 07:09 PM
Not to rain on your parade, but I think you're looking at this swap thing with too much optimism. $2200 might buy the engine, but that's not including any of the millions of other things you'll need to make it work. If you're buying an engine with 100k on it you're also going to need to do timing and water pump and with that many miles I would suggest a rebuild just to make sure you know everything is up to par.
What kind of trans are you going to use?
Who's doing the wiring?
Which crossmember are you using?
Who's going to fab exhaust for it?
There's a reason swaps are so rare for average guys like us. If was as easy as throwing a motor in, we'd all have one.

mycargoesvroom
08-06-2011, 08:57 PM
Why is it missing the intake manifold? Seems like an odd part to take off. Anyway, $1400 seems like a solid deal but you're still looking at close to $2-3k in parts after that to make it work.
I called around a few months ago about swapping my previous LGT. The best price I got was $6k, $4k of that was the parts going in, the other $2k was labor. Best bet would be to ask some of the guys here on the forum what they spent before diving head first into it.

put away atleast $5000 for a swap....
I was going down that path, instead I put my saved up money into buying an already turboed wagon and I couldnt be happier.
That not a bad idea... I'm still looking into doing a WRX swap on my BD, but thats because I always do things the hard way. When/if I ever do it, I'll be getting a complete car or a Half-cut. Only way to do it, other wise your gonna be getting nickle and dimed with all the crap you didnt know you needed. When I do it, I'll be looking for a wrecked WRX that was stock. I almost got one in November for about $2500 hit in the front...
I would NOT buy a motor missing an intake, or a Turbo, at least for a Subaru. Turbo's are $900 new from the dealer (thats my shop price) and getting a good used turbo is a crap shoot. Who knows how much the correct complete intake is that you would need...
As for a swap, most of the labor is wiring on Subaru's, from what I'm told. A good friend of mine just did a JDM Forester turbo swap, but he also does swaps for a living.
Car looks good with the new wheels BTW! :smt023

Your kidding right? WCSS, west coast subaru show, one of the biggest weekend Subaru events of each year. It's camping Friday and Saturday nights, huge car show Saturday all day with awards, prizes, and events going on. Every model has their own category and judged sepertaly.

I will check out what I can find for you on the badge. Hr spent and I only see GT in chrome on every JDM BG5 so sorry to disappoint but no sweet badges it looks like that I can find.

Wonder if they're dirty on the inside... Don't know how easily they could be disassembled if that's the case.
