I've been lookin for a 2.2 uel header and had no luck. Where can I get a knockoff cheap one?

Dont cross your fingers. If you want performance the EJ22 will disappoint. I have been on the hunt for a long time and they just don't come along. And supers is gonna cost an arm and a leg. I am actually debating on cleaning my car up and pushing it out the door.

Well its hard to find a 2.5 block locally. I dunno what im going to.

Yeah and a 2.5 block would be nice cause parts are more readily available but you need to make sure to do the work on it. I like how much of a beating the EJ22 can take. But it lacks hard in the performance department and parts.

I'll prbly do a frankenmotor . A local subaru performance shop recommended that instead of just a 2.5 swap. Every angle I look at is like 1200 bucks .

Have one made. It's not that hard, or expensive. Get flanges, custom 2.25" header pipe (try to get T304 Stainless Steel), and have it fabbed up with a custom midpipe (you could include a High flow cat) with your flavor of axle-back. Shouldn't cost too much.

w/out HFC $600
w/ HFC $900

600 seems to be the price I have been quoted.

um, you have a 95 right, isn't that dual port? if so just buy one off ebay for a 2.5 and it will work just fine.....

Header options:
1) Swap dual-port EJ22 heads from a 95 Legacy .. Use the standard UEL 2.5Rs headers with this combo.
2) Purchase the UEL headers and remove one runner per side and reweld back into 2.2 flanges
3) Cut one of the runners from your Y pipe and extend and rework. Basicly make one of the section of the Y pipe longer thus making an UEL header. A member on the forum made one and posted pix / videos but I cant find it.

Thanks , I do have a '95 lol . That just solved everything .

just double check that your exhaust ports have 2 per side and your y-pipe has the matching flanges and the dual piped y-pipe.

StatGSR

yep, just crawl under and double check that you have dual port heads and header and if so, you should be good to go! If your unsure, just snap a picture and post it up. btw a single port will only have 2 bolt studs on the head, a dual port will have 3.

How much would a shop most likely charge to do said thing?

chuckthefuk
05-14-2011, 02:08 AM
$100 .... not worth it since the uel are $140+

Baddog

I may buy a set and give it a shot then. How hard can it be. Cut off a runner off each side and close up the hole. Then weld the new flanges on. I am not sure how it's not worth it considering there are no header options for us single port guys.

Maybe I am looking at it in the wrong light?

chuckthefuk

for that money you can get a shop to just bend the pipes and have your own version of the UEL headers

No offense. But I am tired of people saying this. If you can find a shop that will do this for me. Let me know. I have been quoted $600 at two shops. And then $1200 at another one. I have yet to find a set of Single Port UEL headers to be made for ~$250.

azlegacy

I say, pay the 250 still cheaper than paying for the real Borlas .

Baddog
05-15-2011, 05:02 PM
Yeah. I even have a friend who has a welder. I was just asking if those "Speedyracer" headers would work if you did cut a runner off each side and weld new flanges. $250 sounds like a sweet deal to me.

Does it matter how much pipe is added to attain the desired rumble? I already have my stock header off of the car and a friend of mine is an aircraft exhaust welder so It shouldnt be hard. Ill be happy to write up a DIY once I find out what all I need to do.

chuckthefuk

from what i recall all you would need to do is add about 1 foot of pipe in a "s" shape

What size piping would I want?

Looking like the cost is going to be over $300. I would rather look else where. I know about that thread. I am the one who sent him a stock header to mod after.

so these photos. just to get an idea, was only one side cut and added to? and the cat remained in the stock location? just basically add a foot of pipe and re hang?

Yes. Yes & Yes

I still can not find the member who did what you are describing. it looked like a "S" path for one of the runners.

Either way good luck with your endeavors

Yes! This right here. My 95 also has dual port exhaust, so I can get pretty much any header from the 2.5s.
