Thanks. Yup I saw the wheels on your MR thread, had to go with 17's to have it a more lowered look. I had the 18's on the 527 but it gets in the way with the aero guard if I put those on.The future plan is to swap back in the turbo kit but have to get the outback going first so I have another car. I will use the engine on the BD and put it on the BG and then build the wrx turbo 2.5 block for the BD. I still need to stop being lazy and slap on the aero guard. I do want to make a custom wing for the BD though and maybe reshoot it and use satin clear.

As Muse says 1055 is selling some flares. I like those flares too but I don't like that you can see the screws/rivet. I'm more of like clean smooth look, like it belongs to the panel. I'll take a pic on the flares I did on my bro's gc8 cause its hard to tell from the above pics since it was dark

I would love to do a wrx swap too but I'll just stick with my setup. It nice to see it fully successful from other members using a full wrx harness. For the money I spent on my engine and turbo setup, could of got a wrecked wrx. I'm glad it inspired you :grin:

As for the wing, Its going to be a low wing. I'm looking into what kind of car have the same trunk dimension/shape as the legacy so I can hack it hehehe. I'm unemployed right now so I have all the time to mess with it (not to mention everyone in my families car and friends :smt011 :smt005 )

Well, I think I took off about an inch~ inch and a half. Used a string and traced the arch of the wheel from the center hub. Also had to cut the rear bumper off. I'll see if I can take a pic next time I paint it. It actually looks ugly from underneath :lol: but the flares covers it

Went to pick n pull today and they had an 04 wrx!!! :shock:
Engine/transmission was gone and so was the front seat.

Got the rear seats though which I've heard is the only one that came in black on the 04. The rest was dark blue ( :smt017 ). Also grabbed the rear sway bar mounts which are beefier than the legacy

Not sure if it is on the wrx but I know the 04 STI rack is sought after. I think the rack is still good on that car and so is the strut/spring. The car was rolled over, most of the damage was on top which would of been a good donor car.
I will put it on my BD since it has an adjustable perrin RSB. They will also work on the BG/BK but its shorter Here is a link from nord on what he used as a spacer

Its just a simple 4 wires= batt, ground, LIG :smt017 (need to look at a schematic to figure out what this is) and ACC.
I don't know why the older models didn't have an independent clock like the newer subaru. I think they started to have it on the 3rd gen legacy. Hardest part is probably measuring, measuring, measuring and then cut my dash for it. I'll see if it can be done without having to remove the dash

The wrx rear seats is kinda filthy, I think its soaked in coolant/oil or something. Anyone ever remove the fabric and wash it? I was looking at it and it seemed like its stapled into place. Probably gonna make a trip to walmart for a cleaner for the seats

I was surprised when I got an email from row52 on the new inventory from picknpull. Sadly went there day after it arrive at the yard and missed out on the front seats. The worker said it came with no engine/trans so I didnt feel too bad lol. I've been seeing many impreza's specially OBS which have the hood like the RS but they put those cars in the premier and charge you more :smt013 lol

Picknpull party!!! lol :smt026 We've pulled engine/transmission, pretty much anything at pick n pull hahaha. I was also thinking about getting each other's info and give each other a heads up what was at a certain picknpull we went to let others know. That way it will save time and have better info on whats in the car. I know its not guranteed since who knows if someone else will come and pick something from it after you leave but its a good heads up at least.

Wish I can go 50% off shopping at picknpull but I've been busy.

Yes, I will mock one from my outback and this time I will work around the jdm side marker :lol: . Then next time I head to the bay, I'll bring my welder since I have to weld a mounting nut on the frame rail to make it work. Not sure when I will have time to do it though but thinking sometime next month since the registration is due in june for the outback. So I need to get back and work on the BG.

I have a lot of questions on how you did things if you don't mind at some point. The first question is, are there any kind of rubbing issues with the 530s. I was going to go 17x7 et+35 but everyone says they will rub and you have 17x9.75 et+25. I dont mind going wider but I really didnt want to go past 17x8.25 which is also ET+25 from owning these wheels do I need to do anything special with the brakes or suspension I am completely stock suspension but have bigger brakes I am not sure what from specifically I was told WRX and the specs match so I am assuming that's where they are from. Any help with this would be great I plan on ordering the wheels this month.

Thank you. I was also inspired by other members rides. If your going with 17x7+35, you will get some rubbing even more so depending on the tire size you choose. You will have to roll your fenders/panels.
I've seen setup with 17x9.5+35 on our cars but it requires rolling/pulling fenders/flares and maybe some stretch. They were also using lowering spring setup.
You will be fine with the 17x7+35. The 17x8.25+25 will stick your wheels out about 2 inches so unless your running crazy camber and roll/pull fenders and stretch and coilovers, you can pull it off.
I'm able to run bigger aggressive wheel because I have flares. I'm using Ksport coilovers/ whiteline bumpsteer correction and other suspension mods. I'm actually within factory spec on the alignment.
You don't need to do anything with your brakes. As far as the suspension, if your just staying stock then a roll would do it but if your gonna lower it then you will need lowering springs and camber bolts for the rear depending on how low you go. I've noticed that the stock front camber bolt is ok for lowering setup.

If we could of got there about 30 mins early, we would of got the car for $600. We got there and there was another buyer checking it out. The guy liked my GT so much he said ok for $600 but his girl made it a bidding war with me and the other buyer. Almost didnt get it because the other buyer was willing to pay more than the asking price but I made my case about how I drove hella far and I will pay their asking price. The car is very clean, It just have a bad rod knock. Well worth it

That does help a lot :razz: I am not intending to lower my car much maybe an inch tops on some racelands at the top of their ride height mostly because I like the ride height and I don't mind them sticking out a bit I like that bull dog look and what I have now is like an inch into the fender well. I was intending on running 205/40s on them a little stretch not so bad I have 17x7s now with 205/45s and have a good 3-4 inches all the way around so should be close I think. I will also be rolling and pulling my fenders as well so it sounds like they will fit which is great because I have searched high and low for rims that I like and man am I picky and then I found these which are perfect and everyone is like they wont fit don't do it. So its nice to hear someone say they will fit. I also want to add flares at some point so that should help also on the plus side I live in Florida so no inspection and the wheels can poke a little.

As money comes in I will be hitting you up for more information I love everything about your car and there is literally nobody that drives legacy's in Florida I have seen 1 since I bought mine a year ago and its an outback.

Patiently waiting for a write-up :roll: :wink: - really keen on doing the same thing since I'm folding the mirrors on mine pretty much every time I park somewhere.

Its actually pretty simple. Just have a friend hide in the car and tell him to push the fold/unfold button when you hit the alarm. :lol: Lol J/K, but it is simple if you know about wiring or wired up an alarm before. There's a fold/unfold mirror module and it actually tells you where to hook up the wires on the back of it. I will add it up though once I find time to do it.

Now that the weather is getting cold, my transmission is having grinding issues until its warmed. Its so bad that it grinds, I mean grinds on forward gears that I look like a noob driving it. I have no problem downshifting but upshifting grinds. I literally have to double clutch to drive it around and its not fun nor sounds fun (from the exhaust note with 2-3 second pause between shifts). I even tried out the (uncle scotty) trans cocktail (even though I knew it wouldn't work lol). The damage was already done, there was alot of metal shavings from the magnetic drain bolt. Synchro's are bad, Time to search for another transmisson.

So I've been driving with the crappy transmission for a minute now. Its really getting annoying (grinds on almost all gears unless double clutch). I'll be replacing it with a newer transmission from an 03 impreza RS. Luckily its the same ratio as the old transmission.

Anyways here's a pic with my friends GT. Took his timing component stuff out and try to see that its the one thats making the noise and not a damage block. Still waiting for the new timing component. Cross fingers

Installed the 03 impreza rs transmission but for some reason its still grinding and hard to shift thru gears :smt017 . I was able to shift thru the gears ok from the yard so it turned out the shift fork that connects to the short shifter is wrong. Well either the short shifter is wrong for the car or the linkage that connects to it is wrong. I'll probably return it back to a regular shifter until I get it figured out. The short shifter seems to be a tad wider than the fork/linkage to where its gets in like in a wrong angle when shifted. Anyways here are some pics

It came with 4.11 :grin: although In the future I want to get the obx front diff lsd and install it.

Its 17x9.75+25 on 235 tires with the flare. Suspension is done right so theres no crazy camber settings that eats up my tires. It still looks new besides the scrape on the rear when I'm rolling 5 deep although I should raise up the rear a bit.

No quick release, I just don't put the clips under the headlights.

Well I figured out the problem with having trouble shifting. It was the short shifter (came with the car when i bought it), The shifter is wider than the rod opening. So I cut it down and now it shifts better. I knew that the transmission shifted every gear nicely at the yard but when I swapped it, it was hard putting it in gears. So I knew it had something to do with the shifter assembly. Too bad I didn't take the RS shiftfork since the kartboy short shifter was meant for it. I wouldnt have to cut/trim the shifter

You can tell that the fork was stretched to accomodate for the shifter which messed up the geometry :smt017

That's very interesting, I've never seen a shift fork that looks like that one does. I've played around on a few different soobs and they're all 180 degrees straight up and down, not tilted to one side or the other.

:smt017 I've looked around too and they are pretty much the same besides the size of the opening for the shifter.

In other news, I installed coilovers/wheels on my friends evo. He grabbed the xxr527 (which is my old setup but for the heck of it, I installed it on my car real quick to see how it would of looked like gold instead of the purps lol)

Thanks fellahs, yes insurance got involved. Received money before I went to my motherland (Philippines) and just got back a week ago. I had enough for spending money over there and to fix and repaint the car. I just started today on getting the dent out. I have a spare rear bumper also.

Also changed the rubber bushing on the front coils to a thrust/roller bearings. This is necessary because if you have coilovers with rubber bushings, they will eventually tear up when you turn your wheels from the metal rubbing against each other. The rear is not necessary since it doesn't turn.

That my friend is a mitsubishi galant vr4. They were limited models started in the states i think 91 (2000 made) and the 92 (1000 made) which had 4g63T AWD. Then the eclipse/talon/laser took over. It sucked cause after 92 for the galant they never offered the turbo models anymore in the states. Don't know about the silver nubs lol

I think they work with the turn signals. I have seen some cars that have similar parts. They let the driver see that the turn signal is on.

Man this car is sexy. When I was offered my Legacy for trade for my Integra GSR I googled them to see what can be done with them and images of your car popped up. I was immediately sold. Absolutely love the color. Since I can't get a straight answer from anyone when you ordered your coilovers what car did you order them for?

^^Usually, people order them for an 04ish WRX. The front top mounts need to be switched from side to side, as they are oriented at 180* from the BD. I assume this is what he has done, but he can definately answer it better.

The coilovers are actually Ksport that is specifically for the 2nd gen legacy, I was lucky enough to get it half price when a speed shop was getting rid of the older ksport coilovers for their newer version (mostly color change lol) it also help that no one was probably interested in getting a coilover for their 2nd gens

So I ended up keeping the same color but with the flares/skirts/lips/aero guard black. I then shot it with flat clear. It gives this cool looking hue and I like it. Only problem is its hard to shoot it (specially on a hot day) and would leave streak on a horizontal panel (hood/roof/trunk). It dries really fast and its hard to keep it wet. I'll fix it later on, gotta find a different flat clear that doesn't have talc in the clear because its hard to shoot/arrange it.

Still have to detail it but its been done since sunday

Installed the aero guard. The color makes it trippy. I shot flat clear over my bro's GC, which is a lighter green, and it doesn't quite have that kind of haze like mine. I think its because the color is darker. I'll take a pic with it side by side later with the GC.

Its all in the technique and a quality gun can make you a good painter. Try watching some youtube videos on how to paint, otherwise you can probably take a class. What kind of paint gun do you have?

I will admit, I didn't like the flat clear at first, but now, with the skirts, lips, and flares on in black, it looks really good. Flat is so hard to shoot on a large, flat surface, which is why I'm leaning toward a semi-gloss instead. It seems much more forgiving. Yours looks really good, especially now that it is complete. Good job.

Yeah it takes awhile of getting use to. Ever since I primered my old car before and I drove it around when it was rainy (i know its a no no lol) and when I see the water get on it, it looks like it has clear coat. I wanted to paint my future car with it. I've tried using the single stage flat black and it was a nightmare to shoot. Even the flat clear is hard but a little forgiving. I shot my bro's GC flat clear and it came out better (shot it during cold rainy season, which is perfect for it). I want to reshoot the flat panels but its too hot. Its easier to wrap a car than to shoot it flat lol. It doesn't have a texture like plastidip, its pretty smooth. Heres more pics

Its been raining over here lately and found out that I need to reseal the taillight because the water gets in the trunk area.
I've been waiting for my next smog (apr 15) so I can finally get back on finishing my turbo. About 3 weeks ago my friend and I went to moss landing pnp (2hr drive) and found a 93 legacy SS. I have him take out the harness, while I remove the engine. Well the workers didn't remove the cat/downpipe and it was a bitch to remove. I tried taking out the downpipe bolts and one was rusted on there. Couldn't take out the turbo because the downpipe was on the way. Had a hard time taking it out cause the downpipe was wrapped on the transmission. I ended up telling my friend to stop on removing the harness to help me with the motor and we eventually got it out. Took it out for my friend with a 1st gen legacy and he wanted the whole harness to make his swap easier. We had to sacrifice one of them lol. When I was ready to pay they wouldn't sell me the engine since the converter is still connected. Told him its they're fault for leaving it in there. I had to put so much pressure just to brake the bolt. :smt013

Next day I went to drop off the r32 skyline painted parts and we decided to check out the local pnp. Turned out there's a wrx there with everything in there. The car had been rolled and we spun with a ratchet with no funny noise. We were in the premier yard so everything cost much more. My plan was to remove the full harness (it was about 3pm) and go back there early morning for the engine. Got the harness/ecu and prayed that the engine will still be there the next day. Lucky for me we went there right when they opened and we removed the engine. Just like the SS engine, it gave us another challenge. We had to pull the engine/trans out and the transmission would not seperate from the engine. About 10-15 mins of yanking and twisting it would not separate. Luckily it had about a 2 inch opening so I can loosen up the clutch bolts and it finally seperated from the engine. Turned out the throwout bearing was stuck on the trans shaft/clutch. It was tiring week but felt like I won the lottery lol

I'm in the hunt for that right now. Trying to get everything behind the dash and I've seen how slavik.86 does it which makes it easier to do the swap. Brilliant! :grin:

Here is some update. Been busy turboing my bro's GC, maybe I'll make a thread on it since I do all the work lol.
Changed the seats to some GC sti ones. Kinda missmatch but oh well. These older bucket style seats are much better and holds you really good. Great back/shoulder support and keeps you on your seat.

I'm also tossing the idea of using the whole wrx dash. Actually I already put a down payment to a guy who's parting out a wrx. The whole dash/steering wheel/wiring/ecu/hvac/pedals. I just need to go there on monday to remove the parts.
Thinking of using the whole wiring/dash from the wrx and do it like how slavik.86 does. I would have to do a resistor mod on the seats. Wiring the headlights/doors/lights is not a problem for me. I gotta make sure that the 98 gt and 02 wrx gas tank sensors are the same. Other problem would be the abs system on how to tackle it with the wiring.
Trying to do all this so I can schedule for a CA refferee

Jelly lol. There is a way around it which is having an address/po box up in the mountains where you only need to smog when you own the car and when you sell it. Besides that no smog.

So I went yesterday to pick the car apart. Got hailed/rained on for a quick hr lol. As I'm tearing it down, I start thinking to myself that If I want to transfer everything I would need the whole car for parts. There is so much more involve when using the whole wrx wiring. The car didn't have a/c components from the engine which I would need to make. Nevertheless it didn't stop me. I like to tear down a car and learn/understand it. So as far as the gap, I might not want to have the wrx dash, maybe we'll put it on my bro's GC. I want an a/c for the summer and it gets really hot in CA. So I come into conclusion that if you want to put a whole wrx stuff in the legacy you want a whole parts car. Theres alot of bits and pieces to make it function right. I can have it put on my car but the abs might not work, i might need the fuel tank and I will have to buy all the a/c components. Guy would of charged me extra with those but I got a good deal for the parts.

Finally spent some time with this car. Merge the wires myself thanks to Brydon's diy on rs25 and Alphius wire chart here. Also printed out the wiring diagram on the 98 lgt and 02 wrx thanks to this site and about 3-4 days later I had it done. So it's Iwireitmyself #1 :smile: Its overwhelming but its not too bad. Just make sure to triple check your stuff. I wanted to take this to Bay Area Meet this year but sadly I didn't have enough time to diagnose the car. Starts and died shortly

Engine out. Driver fender out for the SMJ to go thru and pulled the dash to swap wires
Can't seem to upload the video of it running but I got it running. It turned out that the vacuum hose going to the boost solenoid will make the car die right away if its not connected (broken, old brittle hose). I could of taken this car to the show but I didn't have enough time to diagnose it even though it was just a vacuum hose lol.
So yes my merge was successful and she's running. I just need to put an exhaust from the converter, clean up the interior and return it back.
