So here is the story:
About 2 weeks ago, my moms 04 explorer had the transmission take a crap on her. Before I could give her any input, it was already taken apart at AAMCO to diagnose. $1700 just to open her up and take a look and wouldnt ya know... it is 100% shot. So $3500 later and with a new Tranny, my mom is ready to get the explorer off of her plate and on to someone elses.
When she tells me that she is looking for a new car, I instantly start talking about the outback and the forester. She listens for a little bit and then starts shopping on her own.
Fast forward 10 days. I am about to come up to Portland from Sacramento for 4th of July and my B-day (3rd). My mom calls me up to say that she thinks she found the car for her... 2010 CRV! :smt011
Dont get me wrong, they are great little cars, but for the price, my mom gets a lot more car for a subaru.
So she wants my help (being that I am in sales) to help her get the deal that she wants.
Now I am a little dissappointed that my mom didnt really give subaru a shot... but the icing on the cake is that the CRV that she wants, is at Carr Subaru in Beaverton!!!!!!!
Now I am just not sure how I am going to bring myself to negotiate a good deal for my mom At A SUBARU DEALERSHIP for a honda. I really just couldnt bring myself to do it. Picture me pulling up in my ladies Modded GG wagon and then talking numbers to a subaru salesman about a CRV... I dont even know if I would be able to sit in a subaru ever again!
So we get to Carr Subaru last night and I start pointing out the 10/11 outbacks. She takes a glance at one through the window and seems to like it.
Enter Enrique: Carr Subaru Salesman extraordinaire who was fully expecting to sell my mom on the CRV (she had called ahead and gone over everything about the CRV with him, he even just had a quick detail done in preparation of her arriving). With a little direction from myself, Enrique takes charge and starts the pitch on the outback.
After an AMAZING test drive demonstration and walk around, my mom loves it and is sold!
Way more room, more features at a lower price than the CRV, and an INCREDIBLY smooth ride!
The good news is that it looks like I have gotten the subaru bug to bite my mom. The bad news is that she is not the one to play the dealer haggle games and was quite turned off by the 1.5 hour long process of trying to sell her a used one for $1000 less than a brand new one... only to find the one she wants on Autotrader for $5k less than Carr subaru's starting price... AND IT IS LISTED ON AUTOTRADER AT CARR SUBARU!!!! Haha
I keep trying to let her know that it is all part of the process. And as much as you want to just say "this is the most I can spend, either you can help me or not", the bottom line is that even if you end up at the same price... if it only takes Enrique 45 minutes to get you at that price instead of a day or two... then Enrique is going to catch some heat from his sales manager as to how there might have been a potential for more if he would have just not "gave in".
I think she is going to be getting one within the next 5 days or so!!!
Just wanted to share my excitement with the rest of you guys!
