The head gasket went 6? years ago, and I finished swapping the JDM today(it wasn't bought THAT long ago), and it seems to be running fine. It was smoking up a storm for a bit, and I THINK it was because of left over nastiness in the pipes from when the HG had gone, and I'd driven it for a bit.
The smoke was coming out from the gaskets past the catalytic converter, and there was some blackish water dripping from several points, including the tailpipe. It didn't feel particularly oily. Fairly heavy smoke had been coming out of the joint past the 2nd? converter. There was significant corrosion there, so I'll need a new donut gasket and bolts (springs are still good).
The smoking had reduced, and after idling it for 1/2hr+ it completely stopped smoking. I'd disconnect it as above, so no smoke was going through the pipe to create more dripping.
Are JDMs known for smoking initially, and will anything in the back part of the pipe likely smoke its way out?
