Instead of painting the fogs, you might want to consider the Lamin-X pre-cut yellow tint.
Also the GT didn't come with a scooped hood, only the Baja of the 00-04 generation did. Or you can go bling and get an aluminium GTB hood from Japan. Way lighter.

Thought about a skid plate?

Ahh, I thought the US GT came with the scoop, oh well!
My fogs both have chips in the lenses, so for now Im just going to spray tint them. I already have the spray. I might drop a pair of Hellas or just stock lights at some point, then I would do Laminex.
I have thought about an engine skidplate, for now thats an extra. I might do one of the DIY roadsign units.
I do however have a Subaru rear diff skidplate, that I will put on.

Yesterday...
-installed Pioneer headunit, so I can listen to my music. I plan on putting a newer OEM head unit, but I need to locate a decent single din unit with aux cable and I'd like to have the Weather Band as well. One of the big reasons to go backwards to OEM is for theft, I live in a rougher neighborhood in Oakland,CA
-installed OEM Panasonic underseat subwoofer, Ive been thinking about adding a second and extending the wiring, so that I can locate them in the trunk against the backseat. They would fit on either side of the access panel thru the backseat and wouldnt loose any real space.
-painted the factory foglights with yellow stained glass paint, looks much better. Both have chips in them, so Im not putting any real effort. One day I might swap a better set in or upgrade to Hellas.
-painted the foglight grills satin black
-painted portions of the front and rear bumpers with bedliner

I did some more minor things today...
-finished painting the lower open portion of the front bumper and the lower edge of the rear bumper with bedliner
-repaired the rear door speakers (good condition, but cones were rattling). While the glue was drying I added some of the budget version of dynomat.
-I checked on performing rkrenicki's BE Cluster Trunk Ajar Light DIY (https://sl-i.net/FORUM/showthread.php?17168-DIY-BE-Cluster-trunk-ajar-warning-light-mod), I decided to wait. I added an explaination to that thread.
-Polished up the grill badge, it was horrible damaged from sun. I just used the final buffing step of the headlight restoration kit. Looks much better now!

Good looking Legacy! Did the budget Dynomat make the car quieter? My wife’s Juke needs it badly.

Thank you!
That wasn't the intent, nor did I have time for that big of a project. It would have been necessary to remove the whole interior to make that happen.
The reason I added it was for sound quality, you add it as sound deadner to the sheet metal surrounding the speaker. That will reduce the hollow metal sound.
I listen to alot of metal/death metal and really enjoy bass.

-(3) Cargo Net Hooks

-Ignition Light Ring
-(4) Door Panel Switch Bezel, woodgrain
-OEM switch to control 4EAT Power Mode

Took a little time today and got the woodgrain Door Panel Switch Bezels installed. Ive never been a fan of woodgrain in a car, but at least they all match now. I kept the black pieces, cause one day I might go back, if i find the dash & console bits in black.
I also completed the Trunk Lid Warning Light mod.
Tomorrow, Im hoping to find homes for the Cargo Net Hooks, complete 4EAT Power Mode, install the Ignition Light Ring, complete Fog Light mods & DRL delete

Cargo Net Hooks- Locations found... Factory holes near the strut towers, just need to stop by hardware store for matching nylock nuts. Then its just a matter of removing the rear seat for access. This will allow for 1 net at the taillights (factory net hook locations) and a second net right against the rear seat back
4EAT Power Mode- Turns out I did not grab the correct style pin, I should have grabbed it off the TCU. For a short term it will be wired to a generic toggle and stashed in the cubby by the fuse block. In the long term, I will wire it to a spare Fog Light Switch, this way I will have an indicator light. The switch will be located in a Baja DIN cubby with switch bay (Subaru #66208AE36A), that I scored off Ebay. Im also watching for the version with 3 switch bays (Subaru LHD #66208AE330; Subaru RHD #66208AE310)
Ignition Light Ring- Physically installed, but failed to complete. I hadnt researched this, turns out it came on '03 & '04 (not '00-'02) with a more advanced light control module. I had hoped the pigtail was existing in the older years, but it isnt. I found a few writeups, but they are out of date(no pics) or apply to a Forester or Impreza (as usual). Im going to look into wiring to the domelight circuit, that way it will light when I use the Keyless Entry or open a door.
Fog Light mods (https://sl-i.net/FORUM/showthread.php?16240-DIY-Independent-Fog-Lights)- Completed Step 1 as written in the link. Completed Step 2, but not as the link says. The Yellow wire coming out of the switch gets merged with the Black. The Yellow from the harness gets safed off with tape.
DRL delete- Completed, very easy! Just locate the DRL Controller(under dash, mounted to left of steer column), unplug the white connector. Verify lights are off or on as controlled by the stalk.

Yesterday, I built a relay harness so that I could run a pair of Hella Supertones. Just didnt have a chance to install them yet.
Today, my order from SuperBrightLEDs.com came in and replaced the license plate lights with White, cig lighter, ashtray and glove box with Red and Door Courtesy with Red.
Also, my Nissan Driver Door Control switches came in, got the ones with Auto for both Driver and Passenger windows! I got it for $29.50 from the Switch-Doctor (https://www.ebay.com/usr/switch-doctor?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2754) on Ebay.
Next item in was the adapter plates for my old Yakima racks to fit on this car. Im just waiting on a couple other items before they can be permanently installed.
Also a few days ago, I received the single DIN cubby from an '03 Baja which has a bay for a single Subaru switch. Plan here is to use a OEM switch to turn the Sport Mode on for the 4EAT trans, and the light will indicate its in Sport Mode!

Subaru Part #66208AE36A

One idea I have been tossing around in my head... These sedans have 4 brake lights (L&R tails, wing and rear parcel shelf), I removed the parcel housing, but the carpet is cut out around it. Thats when I got the idea of a rear foglight. So Im going to look into wiring it to be on whenever the front fogs are on, shouldnt be too hard and then just swap in a brighter bulb.

You and me both!
For now i found the single, that'll have to do.
Ive noticed there are a few Console/Dash variants that have extra switch ports in them, but so far they are all for RHD cars. And of course, I cant find pics of them right now. When I find pics, I will update this post.
-RHD Radio Console w/ 2 switches between the steering column and the HVAC
-RHD Radio Console w/ 3 switches in the 1st DIN between HVAC controls Radio (only 2 DIN available for radio with 1/2 DIN storage)
-RHD Shifter Console w/ 2 switches between shifter & drivers leg
-LHD Radio Console w/ 3 switches in the 1st DIN between HVAC controls Radio (only 1 DIN available for radio with 1/2 DIN storage)

Euro-spec LHD cars got the panels with switches in them, but they're special panels that only fit single DIN radios and require all of the brackets to work.

Ahhh, I hadn't seen that one yet! I saw pics of a RHD version, but I think it had 3-4 switches and 2 DINs.
I'd still run that one, if I could find one, since I've never been a fan of double DIN stereos.

What about the AT shifter bezel? Does it have the buttons? Know any sources for these pieces?

Yesterday, I had a minor surgery on my nose, so I havent done much at all, except lay around.
Today, more laying around til the evening. I was suspecting battery issues, so I rolled over to the local Interstate dealer and had it tested. Sure enough, 1 dead cell, so it got replaced with a new Interstate MT-35. Then I got the Hella Supertones installed and then took a drive to my Union Meeting.

When I got home, 4 packages were waiting. 2 had parts for my Yakima bars, which are ancient and needed rebuild, just waiting on 1 last part that is due in tomorrow!
I also got new lugnuts and the Tomei shift knob I ordered!

Threads are M10 x 1.25 pitch. I liked the look of the Tomei Duracon (https://www.rallysportdirect.com/part/shift-knobs/tom-32865s010s-tomei-duracon-shift-knob-black-70mm-short-m10x1-25)knobs, the one I got was 70mm in height. I can cut the rod down by upto 2 inches, but Im going to hold off doing that until I know for sure I like this knob. In order to cut it down, you'll need a M10 x 1.25 die, which can be picked up at any Sears or hardware store. There is also a 90mm height version, which would hide more of the chrome rod.

Well, I came across a CL deal that I couldnt pass up... a solid well built luggage rack, its all welded into one piece. Not too heavy or too light either. And the price couldnt be beat, $120! It fits the roof area perfectly, 40"wide x 48"long. It secures with large ubolts and plastic hand nuts. I will be changing that out for a more theft secure means of mounting.
But for now, it looks better. Its much closer to earning the "Outback" monicker and fitting my goal of being a DirtyLegacy!

I recently found out that Subaru used a rear mounted 6"x9" subwoofer in the BE/BH with the Premium Stereo package. On a BH wagon its in the right rear wall of the cargo area and a BE sedan has it on the left side of the rear parcel shelf. Unfortunately, mine being a 2000 does not have the wiring pre-installed. It would have been pretty easy to find one at a wrecker and slap that in place, but its not worth the trouble of running the wire for a stock old subwoofer. Maybe Ill throw something in there when I get around to upgrading the rest of the system.

I met up with my good buddy, he ended up with my old BG, but had swapped the 2001 Impreza RS2.5 6spoke wheels over to his '98 Forester. Well, turns out he only likes the 16" size and actually liked the stock wheels on my '00 BE. So we went over to a tire shop and swapped rims and tires around! So I have my old RS 6spokes with my new 225/60r16 tires and hes got the '00 Outback wheels with his new 205/65r16 tires!

I really need to figure out a good color for these wheels with this car! I got them originally as 2 partial sets, so 1 pair is the original silver and 1 pair is spray painted gold! Im not a fan of gold, Im bouncing between silver & bronze.

Didn't have much opportunity to work on the car, but I did finally do a quick 4EAT Power Mode switch. I also threaded & cut the shift lever, so that the knob will sit a little lower and tidier. After dark, I got a PCV and IACV gasket ordered.

I decided to only remove 3/4", because this is how much can be removed and still put the stock shift knob back on. I will probably remove another 1/2-3/4". Its easy to do, just slowly extend the threads the amount you want to remove, using a M10-1.25 die. Then hack off the end, clean up the cut with a file and its done!

Finally got around to adding hooks for cargo nets. My BE came with 2 hooks mounted near the taillights, but I have 2 Cargo Nets. I found a BG at a wrecker with the extra hooks with a M6 stud, so I grabbed my Rivet Nut Gun and the M6 Rivet Nuts. Just like that it was done! I still want to find locations on the floor to secure both Nets, but that will come later.

This last weekend, I went south a bit to San Jose to hangout for 25th HS reunion and with my brother. He hooked me up with a new top of the line alarm system, a CompuStar. Pretty fancy for this old of a car, its monitoring all 4 doors, hood & trunk, impacts, its got remote start & closes the windows. The remote has a display that tells me if its locked or unlocked or which sensor detected a breakin and it work to about a 1/2 mile in good conditions!

Finally got around to cleaning the Idle Air Control Solenoid Valve and replacing the PCV. It idles smoother and seems to respond a bit crisper.

I also started looking into cleaning up the Intake System, like removing the "snorkus" boxes and using better tubing to feed air to the OEM filterbox or deleting it all for better piping and using the Subaru Performance Tuning cone filter that I got off CL a week ago for $20!

Yesterday, alarm install was completed and windows were tinted. What a big difference tint makes on a vehicle! Ive had limo(5%) on rear windows before and dont like it, makes it difficult to see when backing up at night. So I went with 20% for everything behind the front seats and 30% for the front doors. With dark interior components, its hard to see in so it looks like limo from the outside, even the fronts. From the inside, its still very easy to see out, even at night! I also had them do the top 6" of the windshield in limo(5%).

Yesterday I got a surprise, my taillights came in! So of course, I got those installed ASAP! It took a while to find the ones I wanted... I wanted the smoked, so they would blend in with the black paint a bit and then I wanted the center piece that said "Subaru" instead of the easier to find "Legacy". Im not sure what markets or models got which version, other than I know USDM got "Subaru". And Im pretty sure AusDM/NZDM only got "Subaru", since their model name was Liberty, not Legacy. I ended up suing some spray window tint on the wing brake lens, the bright red stood out too much!

Today, I put a set of 20mm hubcentric wheel specers on. They look great and add just a touch of aggressive look, but still nowhere near needing to roll the fenders. However, making a sharp turn the front wheels rubbed the mudflaps, so they got pulled. Hopefully that will be enough clearance. Might need to pull the 2.5 lbs sledge out for clearance. While I was doing that, I tried to install the Anderson Fab Swaybar Endlink Kit (https://andersondesign-fab.com/product/adjustable-sway-bar-end-links/) that I ordered during their Black Friday Sale. Unfortunately, it seems I have different A-arms than their kit was designed for, but it just needs narrower spacers. I also climbed under the rear and found that their front kit would almost work on the rear, the links are about 1/2" too short. But I sent them an email with specifics, so hopefully I can help them with measurements to start making these.

I was looking a little more carefully at these pictures, and those are not Australian market tails. That is a garnish from either an S401 or a 2003 Blitzen sedan. Those were the only models worldwide that had a tinted tails with the word "SUBARU".

First, Australian tails are not tinted, and they also have the tell-tale rear fog lights in them, just like the European tails. They are the lighter colored squares on either side of the "Subaru" in this picture:

So, the tails that you have are exceedingly rare, less than 500 ever made.. probably closer to 400.

LHD AT Shifter Bezels from Europe have the power/hold switch, but it does not fit around the USDM shifter properly due to where the light is. There is a bit in my RS30 thread somewhere about this as I have some dash trim from Israel in my car. I ended up swapping my shifter for a Sportshift, and that worked perfectly.

I didnt like the blue Thottle Body hose it came with, but I had a black Perrin one sitting around. I also got a Subaru Performance Tuning filter, $20 on CL. Not that you can see the logo, but it looks better to me. I also added the Cosmo PreFilter after the pic.
I still need to build out a barrier between the hot engine air and OEM cold air snorkel. I will also open up the outlet of the snorkel to get rid of the restriction caused by the 2.5" circular end.

I did do a full ECM reset, but I wont have a chance to drive it till later. Just sitting, the throttle seems a slight bit more responsive and it sounds a little louder from the intake, not obnoxious, thank goodness.

Edit: I ran down to the gas station to top it off, about a mile round trip, and it definitely seems to respond a bit quicker/more sensitive to throttle blips. Not like there is more power, just less hesitation. Also, the noise added, is just what seems like should be there, like it was missing.

I had the chance this morning to drive it a bit more. There is a huge difference in acceleration and response when trying to accelerate for a freeway on ramp and also at mild freeway speeds 55-65mph! The OEM box had a new Fram filter, so restriction from an old filter didnt play a part, but Frams are known for being restrictive in general. I believe most of the change is due to a few factors; 1) larger piping (2-7/8" ID vs 2-1/4"-2-1/2"), 2)smoother piping(no corrogated flex) & 3)deleting the Snorkus and Silencer bits.

When I had my '97 Outback wagon (https://sl-i.net/FORUM/showthread.php?17124-Sub-Goon-s-97-Outback&p=241390&viewfull=1#post241390), I had similar effects from doing a hybrid CAI. I used the OEM airbox w/ K&N filter, piping between airbox and Throttle Body was from a '95 Legacy 2.2L(larger ID & smoother) and I bored out the airbox inlet to fit 3" Spectre inlet.

Also, while I had the bezels out, I looked into 2 ideas of mine.
1)Blank panel for ashtray, to mount switches or a single gauge. This wont be hard at all, just make a template from cardboard. Transfer to some ABS sheet from TAP Plastic and then glue in place.
2)Remove the dash cupholder. Mount sheetmetal inside to the factory screws. Then a pair of RAM Mounts can be attached, good location for phones or other navigation equipment

Its been slow around here...
Last week, I got a free Brinkman Gourmet Electric Smoker. Cleaned it out, put in new lava rock, rearranged the chip dish and shelves, added an extra shelf and added a thermometer. After all that, we had to give it a go. So I smoked 3 batches of 2 Cornish Game Hens, it took roughly 1.25 hours to get them to 170-180*F. First round was simply stuffed with chopped apples & pears. Second round was stuffed the same, but also glazed with a homemade mix of Buffalo Trace Bourbon & Local Honey! Third round was 1 soaked in Pabst Blue ribbon for 2 hours/no stuffing & 1 stuffed with chopped pineapple and a Pineapple Marinade! They were all different and delicious!

Today, I picked up a set of 4 wheels and tires off Craigslist.

OZ Racing makes them for Sparco, so they have 2 good names standing behind them!
It used to be that you would only see them on competition rally cars, but I think they gained popularity with the WRX. Now you can get them from Tire Rack, Americas Tire and a bunch of other mainstream tire shops, not just the Subaru specialty shops.

Ive been considering more and more about making it a little more fun and capable offroad. The Mountain Roo folks are pretty active around here and Im within a half day drive of the Sacramento and Gold Country Chapters, not just the Bay Area where I live.
Ive been trying to watch my budget, Ive been out of work for a few months and probably have a few more to go. I had a bad motorcycle accident last September. Im going to lift it, but for now, just a little. It sits 3/4" high in the rear, so I could go 1/2"-3/4" in the front just to level it, but if Im going to do that, why not go 1" front and 1/2" rear. That way it will look level, but it has 1/4" of drop when loaded up. Alignment shops should be able to work that back in using the Anderson lifts.
Im also thinking about trimming up the front bumper skin, similar to @reaperwerx on ig.

I also decided to get a new CB radio, even tho they are dying out and Ive been planning/studying to get a HAM license. After a bunch of research I went with a Midland 75-822 mobile. It can run battery operated or off vehicle power and it can use a hard mount antenna. They are known for running full power out of the box, tho I will have it tweaked and tuned. It can also easily be modded to run Sideband, if I decide to do that at some point. I wanted a mobile for 2 reasons, I want to remove it completely when not in use and I dont want to punch holes in the dash, yet. It will sit in a Ram Mount quite easily.

Sunday, I went up into the hills above Oakland to tune the CB antenna, stopping off at one of the lookouts in the Grizzly Peak area. I was hoping to catch some radio traffic, but it was quiet. The tuning didnt go to well and I am suspecting that my antenna (3' Wilson Lil Will) is too short, Im going to talk with some professionals soon. The run up and down thru the hills really reminded me how much my car needs the ADF Front Swaybar Endlinks!

I went to the Oakland Pick and Pull, they had 2 sedans! A '01 Legacy GT and a '04 Legacy L, both in black/grey interior. So I got a few parts Ive been needing!
-Passenger raingutter('04 Legacy L)
-Rear Passenger door panel('01 Legacy GT)
-Center console, dual cupholders('04 Legacy L)
-Front 21mm swaybar('04 Legacy L) (mines 19mm)
-Gas cap retainer('04 Legacy L)

I'm going to head back in a few days, so I can grab the rear swaybar(16mm) for a slight upgrade from my current 14mm.

New PolyUrethane bushings and rear endlinks are on the way!

A few days ago I got the rear passenger door panel swapped out, its nice to have the duct tape gone!

Today, I got the the passenger raingutter swapped, which was a little more trouble, due to the rack I have mounted.

I also finished the center console swap, I did a few extras, of course! Thoughly cleaned, painted the AWD badge red, installed dual USB (4.2 amp), USB/audio jacks to stereo, thicker armrest, painted the gearshift face Black, etc.

The armrests almost interchange, the physical shape fits, but the latch changed location. Early style on the left of pic, late on the right of pic. The rear section with the ashtray & cupholders for the passengers are interchangable. The AWD badge is smaller on the newer console. The heated seat wiring has plenty of length to be relocated and the switches are the same, but the trim ring is very different between the two.

Thanks, Id love to find better aftermarket swaybars, but just dont find the need at $250-300 per bar. I havent taken a car to the track for nearly 2 decades. And I dont run the hills hard very often, since I own 3 motorcycles, only 1 is slower than the Subaru. That slower one is dualsport that is geared to top out at 50mph in 6th gear!

Yesterday, I reattached the LED strip in the trunk, the glue had let go. The 3M weatherstrip cement should do the trick! Also shortened the shifter another 1/2", feels and looks better!

Today, I installed the GrimmSpeed AOS(Air/Oil Separator), just into the Crankcase/PCV piping.
And finally, completed the Cold Air Intake.... I used the aluminum bubble wrap material from the hardware store, to build a barrier the keep the hot engine air separate from the cold intake snorkel. Then I cut the end of the intake snorkel to get rid of the choke point. The beginning of the snorkel has roughly measured, is 13 inch/square. The exit was 2.25" diameter, giving a reduction to 3.97 inch/square, thats a serious choke point! So I cut it back and it now has a choke point of roughly 12.5 inch/square. You can really see the difference in the pics!

The Saturday after I did the cold air barrier, I drove about 190 miles of freeway, everything ran very well and it seemed to respond better and possibly got better fuel consumption. I ran the OBD2 via the Torque app on my phone and the fuel ratio was spot on, except when I made a quick throttle change, but it got back to good numbers very quickly. I also noticed that the Intake Air Temp stayed about +/-10*F with the ambient temperature, as long as the car was moving above 20mph or so.

Heres more pics....

I finally got around to completing the Reverse Flood and rack mounted Light Bar! It was a long time coming, but Im happy with it! The Reverse Floods are just some generic thin work lights from an auto supply and standard use H3 55watt bulbs, upgraded to 100watt in each. The LED light bar is a Heise Blackout 30" Dual Row (http://heiseled.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=18&products_id=207). I used (2) BE/BH Legacy Foglight switches to trigger them on for a factory look, all the dash switches have been changed out to Blue LEDs for the illumination and Red LEDs for On. I cant wait to see how they perform at night!

Over the weekend drove up to Sterling Lake near Cisco Grove, CA and did some light wheeling and camping with friends. They had better prepped vehicles, all were lifted, Toyota FJ, Ford Expedition, Toyota Landcruiser & Misubishi Montero. But my Subi did well and they all thought we did well! Time to look into a bit of lift and better/taller tires!

I still might chop the whole bottom portion, but for now I am undecided.
Im not liking loosing the foglights, but the OEM suck. Im thinking about getting a light mesh grill like on the B4 or Blitzen and tuck my Hella Fogs behind that and in front of the radiator!

Last Friday I rolled down to Boulder Creek to meetup with SubieFISH (https://subiefish.com/) and discuss lift options... Its happening! Going with their 4" lift and using their Gen1 Tacoma strut conversion for the rear end and '06 Forester struts for the front. Should net 4-4.5" and fit 29-30" tires after cutting and hammering the wheelwells!

While I was at their place, we drove their R&D course and the car did well, but dug the front bumper in and tore what remained. So on Sunday, I cut the rest of the lower half off! But its ok, cause its getting nice Jeep style bumper soon!
