Hold them fully responsible and make sure they don't weasel their way out of paying fully for it.
Seriously, how did they do that if they're just bringing the thing and and then reparking it??

honestly, i have no idea.
but i'm sure that we've all seen how they zip around the workshop.
the claim they hit a rock as there's a few around that the dealership used for decoration. so that kinda explains the scratches behind the wheel. but the ones above look like a wall of sorts...
there were marks on the tyres, missed the rim by about half an inch...

They did it they pay for it. Tell them you want it like new (since the car is new anyway).

i've admitted it's their fault and have offered to fix it.
my understanding is that they wanna sand it down, putty/filler it, respray and blend it in.
most people who have seen the car(guys at work) say that i should demand a new bumper.
but i can see how they would resist it as it's not warranty thing, so subaru won'r be paying for it, the dealer will. which is kinda the same thing cos subaru owns all the dealerships in australia anyways...
the salesman who sold me the car has assured me that they will let me have a loaner while they fix it.
but arggg.... 6 week old car. just didn't expect something like this to happen, esp not when the car is at the dealership...

You should. You don't want bondo on a brand new car. Tell the to stop cheaping out on you - it's their error, they should fix it the RIGHT way.

you don't need a new bumper.
they'll probably sand the area down, fill it with primer and then paint and clear coat.

you dont need a new bumper. they can sand and respray as long as theres no cracks or damage on the bumper itself besides the paint..but make sure they blend it right...and also take it to a place whereever you want, a reputable place where they will do the job right. thats my opinion.

worried about using putty tho, heard that in some cases they crack, or cause the paint to peal more quickly.
also, that area there is basically quite soft, so i don't know if the putty will be as flexable.
any1 with experience with putty?

z, just trust them to do it right. if they are worth anything at all, they won't use putty/bondo for the simple reason that it will crumble.
keep and eye on it, and shove it down their throats if it starts flaking.

No new bumper needed, that would be a waste.
They can fix it just fine.

Yea.. a new bumper is NOT needed. But what they are trying to do is sly their way out the cheap ass way. Your bumper was not fucked like that before they had it.. so why should it be a putty / sanded / repainted bumper after it leaves their hands. Dont let them do that.. because then if it does get fucked up in the future from the putty/ sanding / respray, which MAY not even happen.. they wont do anything for you. I would just demand a new bumper.. it was not fucked up before.. and it should not be fucked up after. Thats the bottom line. Dont let them get away with that shit.. you spent your hard earned money, and they should have to too.

Throw away society strikes again.
Don't fix it, just replace it!
Who cares about the enviorment, I saved $
Considering the dealership has to pay one of their workers (if they do it themselves) for the time spent on this and not another customer job + supplies, they're aren't making out any cheaper by fixing it instead of replacing it.

But still - they'd be leaving it a subpar product if they just "fixed it up"
That is the dilemma. Trust me, I'm not for "throw away" either, but when that putty starts to flake and it looks like junk again, it's going to be the consumer and not the dealership who'll get screwed. The dealership is the one who screwed up - they should return it just like it was left, which means not using a short term solution.

You should demand a new bumper, nothing less.

ok, i've dropped off the car today
left it with them for as long as they need it.
but they did lend me a car so i can get around.
we'll see how things develop.

Lets hope things develop into a new bumper, or you can count on your car being worth less then when you brought it in.. maybe not now, but when it comes time to re-sell and you have to tell someone 'oh yea, and the only other flaw is when i had the bumper scratches filled in / resprayed because the dealership..."
Lets hope you get the proper replacement!
