So if all goes well, I'll be picking up my carbon fiber hood next weekend. A couple questions first:

1. How the eff do I get the heat sheilding material off the underside of the hood? It's held on by these pins that are basically like large versions of the peices that hold interior panels in place. I tried prying with a screwdriver and I ended up breaking one of the pins. How can I remove this material?

Picture for reference:

2. Is removing said material necessary to facilitate removal of the windsheild fluid squirters? How are these squirters removed?

Any other tips or pointers are appreciated. Thanks.

Those vinyl brads are a pain. What I do that works most of the time is use a screwdriver to pry it up a little, then grab it with pliers and pull it out. Some of them WILL break, it is inevitable.

hope this helps, and good luck with making a sweet outback even sweeter.

Thanks. As far as the windsheild squirters go, how are they removed?

With the hood your getting, there will be holes for the windshield squirters, but no holes to put the heat shield on with. The squirters come out really easy. They are held on with pressure clips. You will need a needle nose (not really small) pair of pliers. Go under the hood and in the holes where the squirters are and close he pliers on both sides of the clips, then push up through the hood. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Have you had any problems running the CF hood without heat sheilding? I assumed it would be okay...
