B4 = boxer flat four engine
Legacy = model of car

ie. Honda Civic = I4 Vtec Civic

B4 also was a Japanese designation for the type of Legacy. eg.
B4 RSK
B4 GT

But "B4" basically just means "boxer engine flat four".

If you look at your VIN you'll find BD buried in there. It's a chassis code.

There's a thread about it in SL-i 101. The B4 was a special edition BE (read 2000-04 legacy sedan) available in japan.

I've never heard of B4 standing for boxer flat four. I've always used H4, Horizontally opposed 4 cylinder

B4 = top of the line trim of legacy with the bi-turbos. JDM savy guys like to get parts from it to make their US cars feel special :)

H4 = 4 cylinder boxer engine.

I've never heard of anyone using B4 to connote a horizontally opposed engine.

That's how subaru got the abbreviation: Boxer 4 Cylinder. :smile: And the blitzen version was a joint venture with porche: Porche-designed Aero parts and brakes, amonst other things.

Yeah, but that's just typical marketing guys having no idea wtf to call things.

I mean, you go up to any guy with semi-decent automotive knowledge and ask about a 'B4' engine and you'll just get :smt104

I'll just leave B4 as the trim, and H4 as the engine layout, it saves the confusion :)

Yea, marketing people are...special.

Suba-rude, we're all glad to help.

That can't be true. I have a legacy BE, it's a boxer 4 cylinder, but it's not a B4.

the wikipedia entry says that all legacies were badged B4 in Israel. I don't know how much to trust it though.

My earlier information was from Grand Tourismo 2. Take it or leave it, i guess. I've read it somewhere else too, but can't seem to find my source.

You could always just slap a B4 badge on anyway. :cool:

Oh wow, that would be original!! Wait a minute... :smt081

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about such minutia, like I said, just stick to what most people commonly know as the "B4" model...eg. JDM, twin turbo with the 4k valley of death :twisted:... and no one will be confused.

I think any performance model Legacy sedan past the BC in Japan is called the B4, as there are BD B4's, BE B4's, and BL B4's.
