I have a slight hesitation on acceleration. This has been a problem I've been tracking down for nearly a year. To date, I have replaced plugs and wires twice, fuel filter, air filter, front o2 sensor, and knock sensor, (the sensors were the only parts that threw a CEL). In the middle of all this, I had the head gasket changed. I'm inclined to think that was a separate issue, because the other problems were there before the HG went. I could be wrong, though.
Every few months, I start getting some hesitation, but no CEL. That will get worse until it starts backfiring. Still no CEL. I usually end up replacing the plugs and wires, which seems to fix stuff for the time being. Twice now I have let it go until I actually got the CEL. One was the knock sensor, which was not the fix to the problem, but a result of it. The other was the front o2 sensor, which never actually failed, but simply responded too slowly.
All the time these problems have been popping up, my gas mileage has been declining. I'm currently only getting about 250 miles to a tank of gas. I wish I could say I was driving aggressively to use up that much gas, but my poor little car just doesn't have any power most of the time.
When I change the plugs, I notice that #3 is significantly worse than the others. Why am I fouling plugs so badly after only a few months? Any insights would be extremely helpful.
